According to many of the 1 star reviews, Sumter Dental been been found to bill insurance companies as well as their clients. In my case, about a year after this sad situation began, I actually received a call from their office that "if I didn't respond the following Friday, I'd lose my appointment." Could they seriously believe I would consider continuing my dental care with Sumter Dental? Even after having been a continuous, loyal client for years since moving to FL. AND, I've paid unquestionably whatever fees they've requested. However, I do have copious records that Sumter Dental and Ameritus Dental Insurance, Lincoln, Nebraska have not paid what is owed to me. Here are the figures: $ 431,61...Paid to me $ 114,00...Paid to me $ 1935.40...NOT paid to me $ 2205.00...NOT paid to me $ 2467.00...NOT paid to me I would like to think Sumter Dental, having read this, would like to clear their record, BUT, whenever I stopped by their office for answers, Dr. Thomas Devlin was not available and I was shown the door. Dr. Becker is compassionate and caring. And most of all he is thorough and has good experience with what's in front of them and all the new technology they provide. Years going there. Such good work. The staff is always efficient and friendly. They have always fired us in when we had an issue.

I used to recommend this practice to everyone. Our family of 6 (now 7) have been patients for approximately 5 years. Our most recent experience with the office staff was less than stellar. I made an appointment for my youngest daughter and when we arrived I was notified that "I" had cancelled the appointment the day before. I asked why I would have cancelled my daughter's appointment and then shown up anyway. They informed me the notation on my account said that I had a change in insurance and the office no longer accepted or insurance. None of this was true. I had no change in insurance and the office does accept our PPO. They said "well, the appointment has been cancelled there's nothing we can do. You'll have to reschedule." There was no acknowledgment that it was THEIR mistake and a huge inconvenience for me. My daughter missed school for no reason, I had to take time away from my work for no reason and there was no care from their team. No apology. Just an offer to reschedule. While I have always been pleased with Dr. Becker, Dr. Devlin, and Stephanie the hygienist... I am not certain we will be returning due to the lack of care from the office staff. read more

Terrible...they had no answers for my dental problems...needed a bridge due to two missing teeth, they offered absolutely no cure!!! Unless you are looking for a cleaning, steer clear...I heard one of the dentists pulled the wrong tooth on a poor guy!!!!go elsewhere ! read more

Dr Becker has always provided excellent care. He's very pleasant and friendly. I've had no issues with the practice until recently when I went in for a cleaning and another dentist did the checkup. I was not informed Dr Becker would not be there and this other dentist was out of network so I was billed inappropriately. I have yet to receive the promised call back to resolve. read more

I went in for my yearly check and cleaning. Everyone was kind and personable. Dr. Becker took the time to fix a couple cavities that were starting to take over. I am thankful he was able to do that on the same appointment. AND HE NEVER HURT ME ONCE. Was very attentive and even funny. The dental hygienist was also kind and did a great job. Overpriced did I say overpriced the experience I received there was terrible my stitches that were pointing towards my cheek. Of course, I was numb at the moment of leaving. Of course I didn't. Notice until later and became a major problem. Had to come back three times to get the stitches fixed overheard them talking about whether they should charge me for it and now I have where the tooth was eroded farther up because of the problem. It'd be one thing if the high prices were there to get you great work but that's not what I received. Which makes things really tricky because you don't wanna look for the cheapest and I thought looking for someone more expensive would help and nope. read more

Dr. Becker will do everything he can to pressure his patients to get unnecessary treatments done. He did an unnecessary root canal on my front tooth...All which was proven by X-rays it was a healthy tooth before he drilled into it.... Long story short, He Didn't fill it properly.... It Fractured horizontally completely above the gum line.... It got severely infected... and the tooth became loose within a couple weeks after the procedure. He pressured me to get Invisalign (even though I had perfectly straight teeth) because he told me my tooth would start turning brown and he would need to space out my teeth in order to put venners on my teeth (which was another lie and scare tactic so that he could get more $)!!!!!! Teeth are shaven into peninsulas when you get venners so why he told me I needed Invisalign to "space my teeth apart" was another fraudulent action on his behalf. His wrongful procedure caused me SEVERE bone loss, and SEVERE pain... and I went to several dentists and specialists to try and see what could be done to save the tooth but he had damaged it beyond repair or saving. I had to have my front tooth extracted, bone grafted, live with a flipper tooth for 4-6 months, gum grafts will be necessary, abutment, temporary crown and permanent crown and in the end will end up costing over 14k to get my teeth back hopefully close to "appearing" like they looked before he did this to my 1 single tooth. The financial factor isn't even as big of a role as the emotional one, and a time consuming one this has been on my family and I. ***NOTE IM 34 years old and no cavities or any other dental issues except this MAJOR ONE because of this dentist! STEER CLEAR OF SUMTER DENTAL AND ESPECIALLY DOCTOR BECKER! Please see pictures attached of my teeth before I had procedure and my teeth now. This man should NOT be a dentist!!!!! I will be submitting case with the Florida board of Dentistry. I was referred to Dr. Devlin for a root canal. He was to make sure my tooth was stable enough for this treatment. After an exam, he deemed it fine. He performed the root canal and crown prep on a Thursday, but two days later I was still in great discomfort and found the retraction cord still on my tooth. He suggested I remove it on my own. I was still in pain four days later so I asked to have the tooth removed as it was obviously not resolving. I was very upset I had gone throught 3.5 hours in his chair with treatment, only to have to have it extracted. He extracted the tooth on a Thursday and it was very upsetting to realize he had chipped off a lot of my porcelain on a bridge next to affected tooth. In addition, it took a minimum of fourteen days to feel like the tooth was healing properly. He was attentive for a few days and asked me to come in for an exam. He prescribed pain pills and antibiotics. After that, however, he ghosted me when I texted him for advice. They did reimburse the root canal and crown fee and only charged me for the extraction. That was appreciated but I will suggest to anyone reading this review to NOT have Dr. Devlin perform a root canal. It was a total disaster and I am still reeling from this experience. Always have a specialist do specialty treatment. Never have a general dentist perform this kind of dental procedure. I was stuck with him because I could not find an endodontist (root canal specialist) who was available on short notice. Overall, a very bad and traumatic experience. read more

Sumter Dental cannot support the number of patients they take on. My 91 year old father got an appointment for a new set of dentures. The process for getting an appointment was difficult but we got it done. Tried to make appointments for my husband and I as well and got an October appt and it was May. Dentures in, paid in full, over paid actually, and the poor old fellow got some sores. We were assured they would squeeze him in for adjustments if needed. I called for help on May 30th, was only able to leave a message. Called back and left a message for the office manager. Still no reply. At this point my father was loosing weight, unable to eat, and getting weak, which made him a fall risk. I finally got a call back June 23rd. About the over payment. The insurance capitated what could be charged. I had to ask for the refund, $300+. My understanding was they wanted to put it in a credit for future work. Let me ask what future work would a person need who just got a full set of dentures? Makes no sense. Not saying the staff and docs don't know what they are doing, they just could not support the needs of an elderly patient. They are in over their heads read more

The care and kindness you receive from the moment you walk through the door until you leave is incredible. Adam will greet you with a huge smile and Sophia and Sam are so incredibly friendly when you check out. My first visit, Natalia was my hygienist and to say she was the best is an understatement. I did end up with a cavity and they explained my options very clearly. I went back today for my filling and I was clearly nervous but Leslie put me at ease and her and Dr. Devlin did my filling and they were such an awesome team. The people they have in place here are amazing and every time I'm there everyone is very professional and the whole office is like a well oiled machine. read more

I have been to Sumter Dental Care twice in the last month. The first was for a cleaning on October 9, and the second for a new crown on October 31. My dental hygienist on the first visit was Eunice, and she was extremely professional and very thorough. Made me feel at ease. Dr. Becker was in to talk to me about the chip I had in my crown and how to replace it. The costs were laid out and the strength of the crown was talked about. I was very pleased. The second visit to have the crown removed and a temporary replacement put in was also great. The replacement was fitted and feels completely like a regular tooth -- no rough edges at all. Elizabeth handled much of the sizing and finishing of the replacement crown and was incredibly good and highly qualified. I couldn't be happier with Sumter Dental Care, and have complete faith in their professionalism and patient care. read more
