I have been a patient of Genine M. Befumo for more than ten years, having followed her from East…read moreBrunswick to Monroe. I held her in high regard as my physician; however, the behavior of her receptionist leaves much to be desired. In June, I had an appointment to obtain orthotics, but I never received a follow-up call regarding their readiness. With the start of college approaching, I began reaching out in August to inquire about the status. Despite numerous attempts, I was unable to connect with anyone or receive a response to my messages. Eventually, my mother succeeded in contacting the receptionist, who informed her that the insurance payment had just been received and that I could collect the orthotics, but I needed to schedule my own pick-up appointment since I am 18. Subsequently, my mother reached out to the insurance company to inquire about the delay, only to discover that the check had been dispatched in June, indicating that payment had been made two months prior. After over a month of persistent calls every other day, I finally succeeded in reaching the receptionist to schedule the specific appointment. When I did manage to speak with her, I indicated my intention to inform the doctor about the issues I had encountered. At that point, the receptionist became irate and began shouting at me. The way I was treated was quite distressing, causing me to forget to schedule my surgery appointment, which I had been advised to arrange in September for a December date. Once again, I found myself calling, but no one answered or returned my calls. I even sent my father to the office to resolve the matter. Upon his arrival, the receptionist informed him that the doctor was unavailable due to patient appointments. He waited for over an hour without being seen. Later that evening, the doctor called and recommended that I seek a second opinion. This situation has persisted since June, almost 6 months, and I have had to undergo x-rays twice because the initial ones were deemed "too old." On November 25th, I went to collect my orthotics. While in the office with the doctor, I recounted the difficulties I have faced with the receptionist. While I was speaking, I heard laughter and saw the receptionist positioned at the door, eavesdropping on my discussion. This behavior was highly unprofessional and disrespectful, particularly considering the confidentiality of my conversation with my physician. It is worth noting that the physician's reaction to the situation was simply, "I wasn't there, so I don't know." This approach to managing a practice leaves much to be desired. Subsequently, I sought a second opinion from Dr. Gibbons in East Brunswick. The receptionist there was exceptionally courteous, and the doctor provided excellent care. Upon reviewing my X-rays, he informed me that I was missing a bone in my toe, which is the source of my problems. Despite being my doctor for many years and having examined at least three sets of X-rays of my foot, Dr. Befumo has not conveyed this information to me.

She has a problem with her toenail, a very painful condition, and another podiatrist could do nothing. This doctor filed it down and miraculously the pain significantly subsided.

When addressed the receptionist was nonchalant and just said ok we will fix it. But why was it there in the first place. Very sketchy. When I arrived to my follow-up appointment the rude receptionist said I had a balance on my account. So I paid it on my UHC app. After 20 mins she told me that I will not be seen until my balance is paid. I advised her that I paid it and showed her the receipt. She said she didn't see it on her end and I let her know that it says it may take a while to show as posted. She then asked me what UHC was. You would think she would know the abbreviation of United health care. Smh. At this point I was annoyed because when booking the appointment they could have told me that I would not be seen until my payment posted. It was very unprofessional and the receptionist was very ghetto. I ended up just canceling my appointment because I had to take time away from work to see a doctor that had me waiting 20 minutes just to tell me that I can't be seen. I can't make this up. And then I was prescribed some mediocre cream. After doing my research I learned that doctors wouldn't recommend this cream. The whole experience was absolutely horrible and I will be getting a second opinion. I would not recommend.
