Dr. Elderkin and Dr. Pete were my OBs during my pregnancy - both were very informative and scheduled extra tests and appointments for me, making me feel secure and confident and helped eased my mind. The nurses that worked the floor during my stay were extremely helpful and checked in often, helping us take care of the babies and brought in extra supplies to help with feeds & changes. They offered a lot of guidance and were very encouraging, especially nurse Heather (I believe she is a travel nurse). Overall, I've had a very positive experience with Metro!

Dr. Bowes was my original provider here and he is great, but a little quick and often out delivering babies. I recently switched to Jamie, a PA at this office, and she's amazing. She provides great care, listens to all of my concerns and questions, and is open, warm, and nonjudgmental. I highly recommend Jamie and hope she sticks around at Grand Rapids Women's Health for a long time so I can continue to have her as my provider. I've never had any issues with billing, appointments, or anything else. Plus they have a parking lot that they validate, and it's close to my house. Definitely will continue to seek care here as long as I can!

Poor girl had it on and off and couldn't find relief. After explaining her symptoms to Courtney Telfer and her assistant, my sister was left alone in the exam room. While they were standing just outside the door, she overheard the following conversation: Courtney Telfer: "This is all just weird and doesn't make sense." Assistant: "Yeah it is, IF she is even telling the truth." And then they both proceeded to LAUGH. Let that sink in. A patient comes in for help, explains real and ongoing pain, and is immediately dismissed and accused of possibly lying, within earshot. This is not just UNPROFESSIONAL, it is UNACCEPTABLE. No patient should ever be made to feel like they are being judged, dismissed, or accused of dishonesty when seeking medical care. Because of this, my sister will not be returning, and I fully support that decision. Dr. Curry, this is a direct reflection of your staff and your practice. Patients trust your office with their health, and conversations like this destroy that trust instantly. This needs to be addressed immediately to ensure it does not happen to someone else. No one seeking medical care should ever walk away feeling like this. I hope the two ladies listed above truly as themselves if the healthcare setting is really for them... because this entire situation makes me SICK to think this is how they are with patients.

I even told the doctor, Daniel Mann, that I suspected pneumonia. He listened to my lungs for less than 10 seconds, dismissed my concerns, and prescribed me an inhaler, steroids, and a cough suppressant--despite the fact that I told him I did not have a cough. When I asked for clarification about my symptoms, the only explanation I was given was "it's probably a cold." When I asked if he could say with certainty that it was not pneumonia, he told me yes. I had to push just to get a COVID and flu test, because in my life I've never had a "cold" this severe. To be fair, I understand my visit was close to closing time. However, this was the only urgent care open at the time, and I simply cannot afford an ER visit. I was hoping for thorough care and reassurance, but instead left feeling dismissed and confused. Over the following week, my symptoms did not improve and actually got worse, especially the difficulty breathing. I ended up going to a different urgent care for a second opinion, where they performed a chest X-ray and confirmed I do in fact have pneumonia. That means I spent an entire week untreated, walking around contagious, exposing my baby brother and my best friend who has severe asthma and lung issues. This misdiagnosis and dismissal could have had serious consequences for me and the people around me. I am extremely disappointed in the lack of thoroughness and the disregard for my symptoms, and I would strongly caution others about the level of care provided here.

I've visited a lot of…read moredoctors that just seem to want to rush you through the office visit, literally just nodding at what you have to say so they can scribble something on a prescription pad and get you the heck outta there! Dr. Bouwens listened to what I had to say, offered me good advice, and was genuinely concerned for my well-being. I actually learned things instead of feeling like I was just giving him all the answers (which is what I've experienced multiple times elsewhere). For the first time in a very, very long time I felt like I was speaking to a doctor instead of a businessman with a medical degree. He is knowledgeable, polite, kind, and helpful. I wish I had been able to continue addressing my health problems with Dr. Hegstrand, but we relocated across the country. I haven't been able to find ANYONE like her out here in the West. The only thing they seem to know how to do out here with thyroids is drug 'em up, rip 'em out, then drug you up for the rest of your life. This woman supported me - from across the country - with the thyroid hormone that I needed to maintain a pregnancy. To her I give all credit for the beautiful, loving, sunshine of a child who just lights up our lives.

At the same time the reviews talking of condescension and dismissiveness in the office is accurate and really irritating. Remember, everyone, you are treating the WHOLE person not just an appendage. Had some pain in left hip area this year when I woke up one morning suddenly in a lot of pain and so went back there, though I emphasized to Swartz that it definitely felt like some muscle issue "feels like a tennis ball in my butt", doubted it had to actually do with the hip replacement. They took X-Ray and guess what they told me? "The hip replacement looks good." Couldn't figure it out. I asked for a referral to an osteo at another place who had done wonders (hands-on) for my friend. They did that referral. So I go to the other doctor (Dr. Madeline Ginn-Terpstra) and she feels my lower back and within 3 minutes says "your tailbone is rotated. I put it back." Instant pain relief. Problem solved. So I call Shoreline to have them put a copy of my xray on my patient portal -- I want to know if the xray view included my tailbone, and if so why in the hell didn't they see it? Why did I have to diagnose myself? Possible that area was not on xray and I didn't want to make accusations that were not true. It now has been two months and 4 phone calls and still there's no xray on my portal. And if xrays can't be put online for some unknown reason, at least a callback and offer to show in-house. Nothing. Dismissive. Like you're not important if it doesn't involve major surgery. They are well regarded and apparently do a bunch of biz with teenage athletes in the schools. More exciting than working with an old lady. Star rating has to do with this episode. I'd put surgeries at 4.5 stars.
