I received a phone call from Palm Beach Research Center asking for my help in a study of migraine…read moreheadaches. I have suffered with migraines since the age of five, so it piqued my interest. I spoke with the friendly caller for about 15 minutes. She outlined the study. She said it would involve me keeping a headache diary for about a month. She asked about my migraine headache history. I gave it to her in precise detail. I told her that my migraines are virtually gone because I am on a medication patch called Butrans, which alleviates my pain almost completely. My very kind doctor, tried various approaches to rid me of my daily migraines and finally came up with the idea to try the Butrans patch. It was a brilliant idea that changed my life dramatically. I no longer suffer every day of my life with horrible migraine headaches. I have been on it for about 4 years. I told all of this to the caller from Palm Beach Research Center. She said I would qualify for the study and after speaking to a colleague, she made an appointment for me to come in a few days later. She said I would receive $450.00 for participating in the study. I was quite eager to help other migraine sufferers by having them hear my story that has had a happy ending. I drove from my home in Boca Raton to their office in Palm Beach and filled out some exhaustive medical forms that the receptionist gave me. One of the forms showed how much I was to be paid per week with a $100.00 payment at the end. It would be a total of $450.00. I was called into the back of the office a few minutes later by a nurse named Mary. She was very nice and friendly. We went over my headache story once again. She then excused herself and brought in a doctor. The doctor asked me several questions about my migraines and told me that I wouldn't qualify for the study because my migraine headaches are being taken care of. I asked the nurse, Mary, if I would be paid for that day, being that I had devoted a great deal of time and effort to this and I had been promised $450.00 to participate in the study. The first day's payment should have been $50.00, according to the form. She just said no, I wasn't accepted into the study, so I wasn't due anything. Good-Bye. This was a very unprofessional, irritating experience. I wasted half a day and a lot of gas going to Palm Beach to hear that I didn't qualify. I feel that I should have gotten paid for one day of the study at the very least. I wouldn't recommend anyone getting involved with Palm Beach Research Center.

I was injured on the job and, through Workers' Compensation, was required to select a physician…read morefrom an approved list of providers. This office was the closest option to my home. My first experience here was phenomenal. The physician I initially saw, Dr. Rami Mansour, had excellent bedside manner. He was kind, courteous, professional, and genuinely attentive to my concerns. I felt heard during my appointment, and he took the time to actively listen to what I was experiencing physically. He explained things thoroughly, answered my questions, and even made small talk throughout what ended up being a very long first visit (about a 2.5-hour wait), which made the experience much more comfortable. Unfortunately, my experience drastically changed during my second and third visits with Gina Darr. From the beginning, her demeanor was extremely cold and dismissive. During both appointments, I did not feel like my concerns were truly being heard or taken seriously. On my third visit especially, I explained in detail the physical limitations and pain I was still experiencing, along with how those issues were impacting my daily life. Throughout the conversation, I genuinely felt as though she viewed me as if I was exaggerating or being dishonest (visibly rolling her eyes or looking towards the ceiling). I also explained that I had never received any paperwork outlining my work restrictions or explaining what I should and should not be doing physically. Instead of listening, she repeatedly insisted that I had been given the paperwork. At one point, she even claimed she personally placed the paperwork in my hand. When I explained that never happened, she changed her statement and said her assistant must have provided it instead. However, after my previous appointment, I was simply told I was "good to go" and directed toward the exit. No paperwork was provided, and I was never instructed to stop at a desk or receive additional information. The interaction became increasingly uncomfortable when she asked why I was "arguing" with her (as she stood over me while I sat in the chair as if she were speaking to a child) I calmly explained that I was not arguing but simply advocating for myself as a patient because I did not appreciate being made to feel like I was lying. At that point, she opened the door and stated that I would no longer be seen. As a Black woman, this experience was deeply upsetting because many Black women already face well-documented disparities in healthcare where pain and medical concerns are often minimized or dismissed. Sadly, that is exactly how I felt during my interactions with this physician. I left feeling unheard, disrespected, and stereotyped rather than cared for as a patient seeking medical help. While I am grateful for the excellent care and professionalism shown by Dr. Rami Mansour, my experience with Gina Darr completely changed my perception of this office. I would highly advise all people of color to steer clear of her.
