Pretty horrendous policy of ghosting customers as soon as you aren't a high value billable target for them. Filled out a lengthy intake form and was told someone would call me back soon to schedule my evaluation. Two weeks go by and no response, so I call back and was finally told that the doctor I requested didn't provide the services I wanted. I asked why I wasn't notified and why I wasn't given any other options for doctors who did provide the service, the response was my insurance didn't cover the doctors that did provide the service. read more

This organization was the worst to deal with. They're great at making an appointment but good luck asking them to do anything else. I was continually asking for the office to provide me with a fax number my health insurance could fax documents for my psychiatrist to sign. They finally gave me a fax number but no response. I asked for call backs, no response. The patient portal is a joke. You post messages, no response. The psychiatrist was no better at giving me his office's fax number or at filling out the paperwork needed in order for me to get my medication. He kept saying that he didn't have the time. Billing was a joke. All in all, the level of care gets an F. I happily left this group and went to a different place and received my medication within 24 hours. Unfortunately, I did not have a great experience with this service. After starting a new medication I was having a mental health crisis and I called them three times in one week (during regular business hours) to try and get in touch with my psychiatrist. I never received a call back. I ended up having to go to the ER to get an emergency medication switch as the one I had was causing me to have very extreme thoughts. Then, once after going to the ER I got through to them to book an earlier appointment with my psychiatrist so we could discuss next steps. He never showed up to the appointment and I called the service after 30 minutes of waiting on the call, only for them to offer to rebook me without explaining what had happened. I think the major frustration here is that you can never get in touch with your psychiatrist directly, only a customer service line that is extremely unhelpful. read more

I called and called, talked to the collections agency, had insurance send proof, and months later and the issue is not resolved. All I can say is thank God for Yelp. I'd made an appointment for my son to see Dr. Khan this coming week, who I was assured was a female doctor as that was what my son has requested. I see now from the reviews that was a lie. I will be calling to cancel, and recording that call so that I have proof (as I can tell from many reviewers that this office doesn't seem to process cancellations as they should be). Dr. Smita Thakkar saw our daughter for a year. The other reviewers who designated her as indifferent, greedy, and rude? Precisely accurate. Did I mention $900 charge for a first visit, and then when it was time to make an adjustment to the medication, another $900 charge, as though they were starting from scratch? Without question the least sympathetic mental health professional we have come across. Perhaps there is an opening for her to work with felons. I haven't even been to the office!!! I'm giving them 1 star because I can't get them to respond. I've tried multiple times to reach them with no luck. Nobody ever answers the phone, which then goes to voicemail, which is full. The emails go unanswered. Online it says they are accepting new patients, but again, there is no way to get a hold of anyone. This place must be a sham if they aren't even making sure their voicemail is available. We've had no problem with the doctor here, but have had a nightmare with the billing department. I had to pay out-of-for my daughter's intake and first visit because we didn't have her new insurance card yet in January. Once that information was provided at the next appointment, the billing department went ahead and billed her insurance for the January visits again... and pocketed the double payment without a word to me. In May I accidentally discovered what had happened while looking on the insurance website at claims. Now, they will not refund me the payment. I have called 3 times in 3 months and my insurance company has called to tell them to pay. They make excuses and keep saying they'll do it after their next month's billing cycle ends or after my daughter's next appointment is paid for by insurance. Whatever they can to avoid actually refunding me. My insurance company is in the process of filing a grievance against them as of today. I also found that many of the claims they filed were double amounts although the appointments always last the same amount of time. None of the amounts that have been submitted match one another despite the fact that my daughter is seen for the same issue each time she goes in. I'm very concerned that this is intentionally fraudulent. Please don't get yourself or your family involved with this company. There are many other mental health care providers that operate honestly. read more

I'm surprised that my excellent doctor didn't post a notice that she was leaving at the end of this month. What's even worse is, the two doctors who are staying are not so good, including Dr. Robert Nezami. Dr. Xu, who a previous poster mentioned is not at this location, she's at the San Jose location. I had phone interactions with Dr. Rai, but I don't think that's a good idea because she's seeing a relative of mine. So, off to my primary practice for my psychiatric care. I do not recommend SHAHBAZ KHAN M.D. I was referred to Dr. Kahn by my primary car physician. I was having some sleep issues I need some help with. Immediately, having seen me for less than 30 minutes he tried to prescribe new, heavy duty antipsychotic drugs. He then went on to accuse me of taking drugs I was not taking. When I went in and proved this to him I told him I could not see him any more as he had lost my trust. Now he is back billing me for two visits that should have been charged to my insurance but due to the delay in submitting them he now wants me to pay $600. This guy is a piece of work. There are other good doctors out there. I suggest you locate one. read more

I've been seeing doctor Smita Thakkar for 4 years and I am very happy with her service! I am an adult suffering from major depression and anxiety. I have other medical issues that complicate my mental and physical health. Dr Thakkar has worked closely with my other medical doctors to find the right treatment for me. I see her every 3-4 months for a medication review. Even though it should be a quick 15 min appointment, she always takes the time to ask about my mental and physical health, she's asks about my kids and my marriage. She really performs a role for me that a regular therapist would perform. My only complaint is that I require a medication that is tightly controlled by the state of California. It requires a new prescription every month. So instead of driving to the office to pick up a new prescription, the doctor mails me a prescription every month. I found out she could be sending the prescription electronically to the pharmacist, but she doesn't and I don't know why. I will ask next time I see her. As for the office staff, I usually get return phone calls that day if in the office. I use the service to request refills and my messages always get to the doctor. It's a bit of a pain to need a new prescription each month but I guess that's what the state requires. Overall I am very satisfied with Dr Thakkar. Btw, I've been on psychiatric medication and have seen a psychiatrist for over 20 years. I've probably seen 5 or 6 psychiatrist, and she ranks as one of the better doctors I have seen. read more

Very unprofessional and rude receptionist Dominique. She clearly doesn't have the skills to work in this role. My insurance called and I was provided an appointment for my son with Dr. Xu at their office in Fremont. I called to confirm the appointment and Dominique stated they don't take my insurance and there is no appointment scheduled though I have that in writing. She said: "There is no Dr. Xu at this office. You better check that number again. And we don't take your insurance". But I didn't even mention my insurance. What is this all about? Did Dominique get on the wrong side of the bed this morning or was she born that way? Ridiculous service.... read more

I saw Dr. Shahbaz R. Khan last week and was extremely disappointed with him. I have seen several psychiatrists over the past four years, but he is by far the worst. During my first visit he started off by patronizingly scolding me for not seeing a psychiatrist regularly. I tried explaining to him that due to my constant moving (internships in different states, visiting family, studying abroad) and intermittent symptoms, I hadn't had the chance to see someone consistently. He then stated that my moving around was my fault and that if I really wanted to get treatment, I would stay in one place. His accusatory tone caused me to throw up my guard immediately. After describing my symptoms, while being interrupted multiple times, he diagnosed me with bipolar disorder. He then instructed me to make another appointment with him before I left the area in a week. I made the appointment and the next week I came in and basically we unhelpfully reiterated everything we had discussed on my previous visit. After ten minutes, he concluded with "Well, I don't know what you expect me to do. I can't do anything. I recommend you see someone regularly in Boston. I would have prescribed you medication today, but I would have wanted you to you come in for follow-up visits. So, that's it." At that point I felt hopeless, because I had to audacity to think that I was actually going to get proper treatment after all these years and unfortunately broke down in tears. He then had the gall to recommend I come see him when I was back in town. I was too overwhelmed to ask him why, if he already knew when I was leaving, had he scheduled me for a second appointment? Money. Why did he make me feel judged and intimidated when I made myself vulnerable while seeking treatment? For fun? Do not see him. He is only interested in money and couldn't care less about the mental health of his patients. read more

I found this dr office (their San Jose location) through my Anthem Blue Cross of CA website. I started seeing Dr. Chawla for depression medication therapy, as my other dr. had retired and cut back his hours. First - the lady who was at the front desk (Christine) never answers the phone. They don't return phone calls/messages, and their answering service is rude, and either their messages never make it to the doctors, or the doctors don't return calls either. In the first two months with this office, my pharmacy had to "loan" me meds multiple times, since despite my numerous calls to the office and answering service, my prescriptions were refilled late. For those of us on psych meds, you know that you can't go even a day without them, as the withdrawl is painful and dangerous. The next time I saw Dr. Chawla, she made reference to my "multiple phone calls" to her, the office, and the answering service, as if I was inconveniencing her. Multiple phone calls is nothing compared to running out of your medication, running down to the pharmacy every day, and frantically trying to get them refilled. I even had a few days where I had to cut my pills in half to make them last longer. For a few months, my son was seeing Dr. Thakkar. She was a bit better at filling presciptions, but here's what happened with her: I knew I had an appointment coming up with my son, but had lost the little appointment card that they give you when you schedule. I called the office multipe times asking them to call me back to confirm what day the appointment was. I knew it was coming up, but needed to confirm the day and time. Since they never called back, I missed the appointment, and incurred a $125 missed appointment fee. When I approached Dr. Thakkar about this, she said "well you had the card"...as if those little appointment cards are so easy to keep track of. I told her if her office had called me back, I would not have missed the appointment, and that I had phone records of my multiple phone calls to their office a week before the appointment. The only thing she would agree to is "reducing" the $125 charge. From there, I called their main billing office in Walnut Creek, explained the situation, and the lady there told me she would check with her manager and get back to me to see if they would waive the charge. Needless to say, no one ever did get back to me, and I got another bill (at least it was less this time - $74.00) with a reminder that if I didn't pay I'd be turned over to a collection agency. Seriously - stay away from this group. They have multiple offices around the Bay Area. They are unprofessional, and I seriously think they need their medical licenses questioned. They have lost 3 well-insured patients from my family alone (I was going to take my daughter there too). read more

Dr. Ditter was professional and thorough. She asked hard questions. She didn't waist anytime with pleasantries, but was very respectful, and got straight to the point. She also made sure to leave time to go over all possible drugs I may have taken in the past because I couldn't remember them all. Her office is easy to find and has plenty of parking. read more

I requested that CPS and Dr. Ditter provide any and all medical records relating to my care. They provided some of the records. Those records referred to a "note" and "typed note" that were not included. I requested those specific documents but CPS/Ditter is refusing to provide said documents. I scheduled my daughters 1st appointment for this month we just moved to Virginia the beginning of this month. We are a military family and this is our 1st time having to do all this change and finding doctors etc. In short my phone has been messing up and I couldn't get her to the appointment because I wasn't able to retrieve the appointment info or the # to call. So when I could finally call today they would not reschedule her because it's my responsibility to let them know. Even though i was not in any way capable of calling to inform them. I think this is very unprofessional and disrespectful of not only me but my child who has no control over anything. My child has several special needs. If this is how they are now, I don't see them being a good place for my daughter to go to anyways. Reconsider if your looking into this place. read more

I was seen by Dr Khan, 3/17/2014. I had to leave the appointment. (Walk Out!) when it became obvious he lacked professional interviewing skills and any semblance of empathy. He demonstrated ignorance of my spinal injury. He repeatedly asked the same questions over and over, information previously given in detail by my having completed an 8 page questionnaire. By his demeanor and lack of respect, I would not recommend him. I'm not sure how anyone can give this place one star based on their experience with Dr. Ditter. It's so hard to find a good Psychiatrist these days..... I believe she extremely knowledgeable and thorough in her practice. She might not be the warmest and most welcoming in the beginning- but it doesn't mean she doesn't want you as her patient. The first time I met Dr Ditter, she took her time to evaluate me. I have been seeing her for almost a year now and even though I moved to the city, I still drive over an hour to keep seeing her. She always makes me feel like she has my best interest. I trust her to the fullest and she has helped me get my life together. Her intelligence and experience makes her one of the best Psychiatrists I've ever had. Hopefully these awful reviews do not steer people away from her. read more

I was given Dr. Ditter's name by our marriage counselor so I was hopeful she would be a good fit for me and my needs. I didn't get a good vibe from her straight away but decided to try to stick with it to see if things would change a bit on our next appointment. "Appointment" being the operative word here - it took three appointments and over $1,500 billed to my insurance for her to tell me that I should reduce my current medication and come back in six weeks for another appointment to check in. The first appointment, I believe, was 45 minutes, second was 45 minutes, and third was 30 minutes, all of which were consumed with question after question of things I couldn't even remember - even asking me how my grades were in elementary school. She's not a very friendly person and seems to spend more time taking notes than anything else. I recently filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau in regards to a breach of confidentiality and illegal billing practices which occurred in Dr. Khan's office. The complaint was handled (if you could call it that) by Leela Virssammy in the Walnut Creek office. She provided a response to the Better Business Bureau which was full of slander and even went as far as breaching confidentiality yet again. Seems like this office as well as the Fremont office are both aching for a lawsuit. Other than that, please, please stay far away from this business!! If you are in any doubt about this practice, please refer to the reviews on the Walnut Creek office. It is clear from the amount of negative reviews on this practice as well as the Walnut Creek practice that this "business" (if you can even call it that) should be shut down. I was seen by Dr. Kahn several months ago. The appointment was easy to make at a time convenient for me. I was seen within 10 minutes of arrival and this was my first time. I thought the doctor to be very young with little experience, it seemed as if the conversation revolved around him, he did most of the talking allowing me to literally interrupt him so I could speak. In my opinion he did not understand my symptoms at all. I was prescribed a medication that I had already taken in the past but he perhaps did not hear me as the sound of his voice must have been heavenly to him. I ended up not taking it and never saw him again. I would not recommend this doctor to anyone that needs help for depressive symptoms. read more

Avoid dr. Susan Ditter. Despite other negative reviews, I gave her a try only to confirm her bad reputation. Her only concern seems to be collecting her appointment fees. Her advice was get an adult coloring book and a calendar and take drugs. She would not renew the prescription without another check in ($$$), would not be accessible by phone even during time scheduled for my appointment, and couldn't wait more than 10 minutes when I was running late after taking time off work for the appointment, despite having me wait over N hour my first appointment and long periods on follow ups. Dr. Susan Ditter is very unprofessional. Her licence has to be revoked. Her appointments are half hour and she is always at leat 10 min late. Most of the time she has lunch in her office while I am waiting. When I say that I don't like it becausse this is my time and I am paying (I have high deductable) she says I am nervous and she needs to increase the dose of my medication. read more
