It was our first time in Lyon, France and we had two foodie missions: I wanted to make a beeline…read morefor the Les Halles de Lyon Paul Bocuse food hall and hubby wanted to get a big plate of escargots. Chez Georges was the perfect compromise. Located inside the food hall, we visited this restaurant in the mid-afternoon. Since people in France like to dine very late, we opted to sit at the bar. The man working was curt (as is the French way) but he was kind enough (if not warm nor welcoming) and pretended to understand my butchered attempts at his language. I'm fairly certain he spoke perfect English but he still pretended not to. We asked him his favorite local wine on the menu and he pointed to one red and one white. We ordered both. He got happy (well, as happy as one from France can ever let on) when we ordered the escargots. He then changed which wine he thought would go best with our garlic snails. The food arrived quickly and the snails were fresh and tasty. Big, meaty, chewy, and served in the traditional way: inside their shells atop a rounded dish. These were good but not great. Hubby said he'd had better escargots in his life. We were close to being the only tourists in the market in the afternoon, and we certainly were the only ones dining. The other patrons at the bar stared us down the entire time, like we were a novelty act from America.

I loved the simplicity of the menu because they have their specialty and when you make it the best, no need to mess with the rest. I ordered the homard entree with homemade chips (fries) and spinach with garlic. The beer I had was a Calvinus White and it was top notch and paired so well with the homard and hollandaise sauce. The chips were some of the best I've ever had anywhere. Food in Switzerland is generally expensive, but this meal was fairly reasonable even on the spectrum of high end prices you will find in Geneva, and the food and service is excellent. They were very friendly and kind since I was dining alone, and I had a great conversation with the two women sitting next to me. I love the ambiance of this restaurant, especially the industrial looking chandelier made of Edison light bulbs. This restaurant is a definite must try in Geneva!! Order extra hollandaise, it's that good!!!

Came here based on the Yelp reviews. It is in a neighborhood with several other dining options, but…read morethis was the only one with a crowd so we figured it would be good. Fortunately, the waiter was able to seat us at the bar without reservations. At least 2 other groups were turned away after us since there was no room left at the bar, and all the tables were reserved. Next time we will definitely make a reservation especially for a Friday night. The servers were all very friendly and checked in on us frequently (almost made me feel like I was back in the states!). I almost ordered the lobster dinner but the Yelp reviews made me curious about the lobster roll so I opted for that instead. Husband got the burger. He's not a seafood fan, so this place luckily had a burger and steak option for him. Both of our dishes came with a small salad (yummy sesame dressing), cole slaw (tasty not too much mayo like at home) and a generous serving of fries (so tasty and so crispy...probably the best fries I've had in quite a while!). I loved my lobster roll. Like the other reviews mentioned, it has a vinegary-herby taste, no mayo. So delish and it was much more food than I could finish. Husbands burger was also tasty. It was cooked medium rare like he asked, and there was a hint of BBQ sauce or something I couldn't figure out what it was. Definitely different from the regular burgers we have at home. We each had a glass of wine and the bill came out to 61CHF. Overall, great experience, tasty food, reasonable prices (remember we're in Switzerland after all).

Let me tell you why I paid this place a visit twice in 3 days! Atmosphere/Appearance: Right among the cobblestone streets in the surrounding downtown area is this gem. It's a lil' hidden and is only distinguishable by either looking through the big windows or the lil' sign that hands right above the stone archway. The interior design carries in that older European architecture that's present right on the outside. There's lots of stone everywhere, big picture frames, a small bar at the back of the restaurant and the see-in kitchen to the left. There are only a few tables so be sure to have reservations or some good luck! Lol. Service: Stéfane (@stf_nws on Instagram )is the owner/operator/chef/bartender/everything. Lol. He was SO FREAKING COOL and so chill. Despite having to literally do everything in the restaurant, he did it with a passion, with style, with flare and with love. You could just tell he put his soul into this restaurant and into this food. Food: On both of my visits I went with their big gourmet plate. I can't remember the official name of the plate, but it was gigantic. Lol. It comes with a plate FULL of smoked goodies! Beef ribs, pulled pork, sausage, chicken and the choice of 2 sides. For my sides I went with the beans and side salad. My goodness. Everything was FANTASTIC and smoked to perfection. I don't even wanna single anything out, but the ribs FLOORED me. They were so incredible juicy, smokey and full of flavor, but you can't go wrong with any of the components of this meal. Value: I can't remember the exact amount, but I believe my plate was around 35€ and absolutely worth it. In conclusion, do I even need to tell you how much I loved this place? It was intimate, tasty, affordable and gave you such a great experience. I can't wait to visit this place again!

He found a table for us even though the place was booked solid. Make reservations. Our meals were fantastic. The burger was a chef's creation and superb. The mixed meats plate was enormous and also superb. Don't skip his cardiac fries. Not typical fries. They're chunks of potatoes maybe fried, roasted, or sauced. I don't know. But they were magical. Don't skip them. Not much English is spoken, so we muddled through with Google translate. We ate what the chef suggested and we were thrilled. New World Smoke is a true hidden gem. Glad we found it.
