Computech is the BEST computer repair/maintenance shop in SLC. We have always experienced the best customer service and quality. I have 2 pets who shed a lot of hair, so we've gotten our fans cleaned multiple times. The other day someone actually asked me if I was using a brand new computer after the fans/ keyboard/screen was cleaned at Computech. Service is always super fast and thorough. I don't know anything about computers, including my own laptop and these guys will never make you feel silly (As a woman, going into other tech shops, this is a common issue for me). Earlier this year, when my boyfriend was getting his computer "checked up", the tech noticed signs that the fans were close to dying - Computech got into contact with us and offered to order and install the fans. They were extremely transparent about the cost of the fans and labor, making it clear that they were providing service at an extremely reasonable price. We will go back to these guys time and time again because of their friendly, fast, and well priced services. read more

I am UPDATING my last reviews for CompuTech. Admittedly I wrote negative reviews previously but today brought my experience to a +11 out of 10. Our tech, Cameron, brought our computer back today. Both he and the owner reported that our computer worked fine at the store. As it turned out the chord which connects the computer to the power was broken. It was replaced immediately by the owner, who drove the part to our home. We were not charged for the visit and our computer works very well now. The only concern was the grounding from our wires in the house. (Old house) I am so grateful for the business not giving up on our equipment or us. The owner and staff at Computech are very amazing! I dropped my computer off with a BitLocker Key Encryption and they were able to successfully identify the issue and had the ability to wipe the computer to resolve the issue. I did end up picking the computer up early after contacting the original vendor I purchased the computer from and was informed that they could provide me my bit locker key. The manager kindly waived the diagnostic charge for me based on the circumstances. read more

Extremely disappointed. Would give a negative score if I could. Please read this as this is a warning. TLDR: I spent almost $1000 and a week with them and they didn't even fix the problem. I brought my computer late Thursday before they closed. I brought it in because it was crashing constantly and I couldn't discover the cause myself. I also use the computer for homework, and needed things done quickly. Figured I wouldn't get a diagnosis until Friday. That was fine, and I expected that. Friday comes around and I get a call. My GPU is bad and needs replacing. That's fine, I expected that it might be that issue, I've had a few graphical issues so it makes sense. I ask how long and they say, "It looks like Tuesday. If it is in by 3 o'clock it'll be done that day, if not it'll be done Wednesday." Sounds good. I tell them to order the part which they say will cost about $700, a price that I thought was appropriate, and I'll eagerly await news. Tuesday rolls around and I'm waiting to hear news. I'm checking my email for updates on the ticket, and I get no phone calls. At about 4:30 I assume that it won't be done that day so I call just to get an update. The man on the phone tells me, "It's delayed and will be there Thursday." Ok, I get it. Things happen. That's where my patience wears off. Thursday (the day of this review) rolls around and once again I have heard nothing. I finally called around 2 in the afternoon just wanting an update. They tell me, "Good news! Part is in, they are doing final diagnostics and the computer will be done in 30 minutes. I told them great I'll be there soon since I was about 30/40 minutes away and to call me if there are problems. When I make it in I am then waiting around for them to charge me. They are talking and not bringing out my computer. Eventually, someone tells me they might have made a mistake. Someone in a tie says that if they made a mistake I'd get a discount. Which is nice, and then he leaves and I am still waiting. Finally, someone tells me what is going on. They did make a mistake, some other guy's computer that had the same repair solution was done not mine. Now I'm less than excited about this because I've been pushed back from a Tuesday to Thursday repair, and now they are saying I'll have to wait longer. I asked when it would be done and the best they can give me is, "Maybe the part will be delivered tomorrow and then we will have it done by Saturday." This is unacceptable because I've been waiting already for something I could have ordered on Amazon and gotten overnight delivery for. So I ask to just take my computer back. They say that they will check to see if they have my part in their back room and to wait 5 minutes. They claimed they had it and that it would be done in an hour. Ok, fine. I go back home and wait an hour. No call. At an hour and 30 minutes, I call them, "We are running final diagnostics and it'll be done in 30 minutes. Ok. I go back down. They then tell me it's a different part that is more expensive, but I don't care I have things to do. I ended up spending almost $1000 for a part that could have cost me $600-700 and that they quoted me for. Again, I'm thinking that whatever the problem is it is solved and I can do what I need. I come home and the computer is *still crashing* constantly. It's almost worse than when I dropped it off to them. I spent almost $1000 and they didn't even fix the problem that I came in to have them fix. I can't believe they wasted my time and money like this. The next day I went in and asked for a refund. They took back their faulty part and said they would refund me, except since they, "found something wrong" they would need to keep the diagnostic and labor fee. Kind of absurd that they are keeping the labor fee because they didn't do anything, but whatever. It's been several days now and I still don't have a refund. read more

I really give one-star review, did leave a five-star before for Joe, I purchased a new HP laptop computer from Joe, and after taking it home realized one speaker did not work, Joe ordered a part and it was not the correct size and did take 3 weeks, being without a computer. If it was new one can order from the factory the correct part or where ever this unit was purchased. Unless one buys a reject, which happened in my case. I live at Snowbird and is a long way to Joe's place. He is a very likable guy, I feel I got the short end of this deal, by the way, the computer is not upgradable to windows 11, which I did not even know. We upgraded the hard drive the work was satisfactory. I just regret driving so long and keep going back yet the speaker could not be fixed, Joe did offer to give me a credit if $275.00 which I did not take. read more

This shop really made a positive impression for me. My wife's desktop tower she uses for remote work fell off countertop while rearranging and smashed the face of the tower off including the power button and front usb ports. I brought it in right after around 11am on a Saturday because she needed it by 6am Monday morning . The guys at the counter, maybe the owner, was super friendly but said he wasn't sure if they could get the parts that quickly but said said they would try and get it done by the next day. I was honestly a little nervous they wouldn't get it finished that quick but ran by there about 9:45 the next morning and popped in and he greeted me with a smile and said they were able to get it fixed. I tripped over the cord on my one year old computer. It fell on the floor breaking the hinge between the keyboard and the screen. I continued to use the computer for MANY virtual calls, day to day operation in my work and personal use. Eventually the screen started to fade and I could no longer use the computer. I took it in and Jose told me it would take several months to get the parts from China. I opted not to fix it, but rather use another computer I had. In about a month, I realized the other computer was far too slow and I really did need my personal computer repaired. I took it back and about four months went by. I never got an answer when I called, so I drove to the shop. Jose told me it had been fixed for "quite a while", but unfortunately he never called, never text, never sent an email. He said he had, but those things are easily traced and there were no attempts from him to tell me it was fixed. THAT wasn't the problem however. When I got the computer home, I realized the camera didn't work. Also, I could not open the windows key and "search" for control panel, etc. I took it back to him. He told me that he didn't touch the camera and he didn't know how the windows key could not work now. That is sort of hard to believe since he replaced the screen and the top cover and the camera happens to be located right in between those two things. He said the camera hadn't been used since last year, to which I reminded him HE had been in possession of the computer since last year. He said he was going to fix it - for free since I'd just paid him $251 for the other repair. I got the computer back (again almost another week), and the camera works - sort of. The picture is grainy, very dark and is certainly not the same quality I had before. So I've paid $251 for a computer that now works at about 35%. As a director in a non-profit, I participate in and host over 100 virtual meetings every month. My camera is an important part of my day to day life. Jose is very nice and I think he is probably a great repair technician. He is running the shop on his own. I chose this repair shop based on the good reviews I had read. Unfortunately, I had a much different experience. My computer was only a year old when I took it to him, but I feel like now I'm working on an old, beat up computer that has been poorly taken care of. His employees have quit, so he truly is running things on his own. I had a bit of a bad feeling the first day, but I kept thinking of the good reviews and I prefer supporting a local business. * I wish he would have given me an estimate and I may not have chosen to move forward with the repair. * I wish he wouldn't have argued with me about the camera. I'm sure people try to get away with extra repairs for free, but I don't. I'm a pretty nice person not prone to cheating anyone - ever! * I wish I had a working camera. Because of the lack of staff, lack of organization, lack of ability to communicate with people effectively and the fact that I'm unhappy with the result, I cannot give the business a good review. I did not have a good experience with CompuTech. I did not receive the diagnostic service that I paid them for. I found out after the fact that they were not equipped to diagnose my computer issue. They gave me a guess not a diagnosis; they acted like they were certain even though they had not done the necessary testing. They simply reperformed one or two steps that I had already told them that I had performed before I came in. I told them verbally and in writing what I had already done. When I picked up my computer I told them my concerns, but they did nothing to resolve them and took my money anyway. read more

They took one tower and upgraded to I can't recall the difference as I am not computers savvy. But they changed the drive from lije HDD to SDD and cleaned n scrubbed it and uploaded the windows ten from seven ....but what really helped me the most is that I had five towers from when I shut down my agency with sensitive protected data on it. One of those included a database. They were able to back all of them up into a separate hard drive that they sold me slightly used for a good price. All five were each separate on the external hard drive. It was a good send as two clients from three years ago called and I was able to pull thier info instantly. They the hard drives out. I have to destroy or save those because of confidential client information. Saved me storing those towers for a decade. They also fixed my laptop jack port saving me a hundred or hundreds on replacement. I am now back there having them remove some software and improve some others. They are fast. Like a car shop or more likely clothing. They will upsell you to fasten better than I need. But I don't do video gaming and such so my data needs are simpler than most.
