Disappointing, unclear DOT physical process--kind front desk, but poor clinical experience I traveled from New York to the Concentra on Summit Ave (Jersey City) to check a DOT physical off my list. I passed the first round of the exam, then--without much explanation--was told to repeat a second round and was marked as failing because the doctor said he "heard me struggling." This was confusing because I wasn't making any noise. The wait to see the doctor was about 25-30 minutes, during which I became fatigued. When the exam resumed, I felt rushed. The first assistant was polite and professional; the second assistant was not, and the tone felt impatient. In fairness, the front desk staff--especially Desiree--was excellent: polite, kind, and welcoming. Overall, the process lacked clarity and consistency, and the delay plus rushing affected my performance. I hope this clinic improves communication, timeliness, and bedside manner. If you can avoid this location, I would; if it's your only option, be prepared for possible delays and ask for clear explanations at each step. read more

Came in for a drug test for a new job. 4 people ahead of me and it took almost 2.5 hours to be seen. I've gone through this process before and it never took more than an hour in total with test completed. I recommend looking into other options and to call ahead for a general eta. read more

My employer called to get me a drug test and blood work. They told them to have me just show up. I got there at 4:30pm and then informed me that it was too late to do lab work. I got there at 8am the next day and they told me my work had to do prior authorization. They never told my work this. I waited 2+ hours. Terrible. No parking. read more

Please go someplace else and don't waste your time here. It's such a horrible place to be. The management is poor. They keep you waiting for hours and when you ask them how much time it's going to take they'll simply say that there are only 2 doctors. I went there to take a drug test which is basically pee in a cup, they made me wait for 3 hrs and when I said can I just do it now they said please wait for your turn. Now I understand that there are people ahead of me and I should wait for my turn but the least these people can do is give you and ETA and when I kept asking for an ETA they said you just have to wait. You could wait here for hours and hours to get to your turn. read more

Employees are too busy joking around having a good time to help their packed waiting room. Crosses over from bad to evil when you realize they'll send you home without the drug test you're required to take for work, costing you a job. These employees should all be fired and replaced with people who have a shred of competency. They're the most lazy people I've ever seen employed anywhere. read more

The staff were mostly friendly and the receptionist had warned me it might be a 1.5 hour wait and then upped it to 2 hours. They finally put me in a room where I've been waiting for another hour without any update by the medical assistant. I finally poked my head out and asked if they forgot about me and was told there were several other patients ahead of me. I've been here 3.5 hours still without being seen and no updates from staff. I understand this is a walk-in clinic but I expect to be kept advised about delays. read more

I'm a CDL driver. ...yup. You couldn't tell by looking at me, but I'm a "trucker". ;) ...by law, we're supposed to get a DOT Physical every two years and I've always DREADED this procedure! The med center lobbies always seem to be full of sick, overworked, underpaid patients... and well, I won't even comment on the staff. ...afterall, they DO have my nads in their hands every two years. FedEx sends us to Concentra for our physicals. I usually go to one of the ones closest to work, but today, I went to the one near my place... and, man... was I surprised! Good, friendly service with a smile from businesses in the JSQ area is often dificult to find. ...don't people always seem grumpy to you? ...have you ever tried to pay your PSE&G in person, for example? ...ugh! oh... wait. ::focus:: (I was venting for a sec) So... I show up at this office around 2pm. It wasn't very packed; "awesome!", I thought. Angelica, the person at the counter was very friendly and helpful (not bitter and indifferent). I filled out my forms... sat for a few minutes.. and in no time, they called me in for my first battery of tests. The nurse was friendly and jovial (not cold and callous) as she checked height/weight, hearing, vision, pulse, blood pressure, and took a pee spez. I was then assigned to an examination room for me to undress and wait for the doc. *(...don't get all excited here or anything... I kept my undies on and they gave me these unflattering 'paper' boxers to wear) The wait wasn't unbearable... Doctor Paz came in... very friendly, talkative... in both english and spanish. ...explaining all of the little 'tests' as he was doing them. (open, turn, breathe in/out, cough, touch your nose, jump, balance, ...that sorta stuff) He explained that everything was good and sent me out to the lobby... I was literally in 'n out of this place in less than an hour! Clean, friendly, attentive, fast... just perfect. I know, this review might not be as helpful to as many people as restaurant reviews... but I was pleased enough to literally Yelp it as soon as I got home. :) read more

I was dying of a sinus infection and new to the area, so urgent care was basically my only option. I had a bit of a problem with my out-of-state insurance being accepted, but it was straightened out quickly enough. Everyone here was incredibly sweet to me and, as a walk-in patient, I only had to wait about 45 minutes to see a doctor. This was amazing, considering the full waiting area. (This office isn't at Journal Square, as listed above. It's at 574 Summit, a 5-10 minute walk from the PATH station.) read more

They will downplay your injury.My injury was an on the job injury hence works compensation. I eventually found out I had torn ligaments and tendons. The physician at Concentra did not diagnose my injury. Instead he gave me cream and naproxen. He also told me" You are not injured. people fall off ladders. They are injured." He refused to read my MRI.I felt that he was smug arrogant and downright dishonest, Needless to say I ended my treatments with him, and went to a podiatrist who recommend surgery. However, due to this Concentra physicians surface misdiagnosis the insurance company denied the surgery. It took two years and escalating the situation before I got reparative surgery. I was in pain the whole time. I'm looking at a ridiculously long rehab. and recovery process .This place appears to be structured to downplay all but the most obvious on the job injuries. I waited over an hour just to per in a cup and when I finnaly peed the male nurse who was judging me from the start told me I had to retake the test.. so I had to drink more water and wait a longer time.. Amazing nurses but unfortunately there are few doctors here and this slows the process down by quite a lot. Coming in on a Tuesday to do routine physical took a 3 hour wait - an unpleasant surprise on a weekday. Wish there were locations in NY so we don't need to travel to jersey for it. read more

I went to this place based on the Yelp reviews. Should have trusted the Google reviews instead. Maybe this place was better years ago when the Yelp ones were written. My experience here was a complete nightmare. The process took nearly 3 hours to complete, entering around 9:30 am! Compared to an average 45 min process at the Urgent Care centers near my hometown in Bergen County. It seems to take them a very long time to call each patient, and from what I could tell only one doctor was on staff. Everything about this place screams slow; it is the only doctor's office I've ever visited that has a little waiting area to check out, AFTER YOU SEE THE DOCTOR! That's right, I had to wait around 6 min just for the doctor to drop off the paperwork to the reception area before I was allowed to leave. In addition to the extremely long wait times, Concentra appears to be cutting all the costs they can in an effort to maximize profit. The assistant who saw me used her smartphone when checking my pulse, presumably looking at a stopwatch app. The walls are paper thin, letting you hear everything that's going on in adjacent rooms. And as I mentioned it looks like they are short staffed. Judging from the Google reviews this seems to be a chronic problem. After the assistant saw me and I spent another full hour waiting in the exam room, I could clearly hear an old lady in the room next to me in an argument with the "doctor." She too had various complaints about waiting, and apparently was unsatisfied with the care he was giving her. She said she was going to get a second opinion and wouldn't be coming back. For his part, the doctor said that no matter where she went she would encounter the same problem. While I don't know the details of her experience, I heard her wail about how her "golden years" are anything but. Overhearing this pleasant conversation was just a cherry on top for my horrendous experience. I'd sooner go to Hoboken the next time I need to visit a walk-in clinic. That or wait days to go to my primary care physician. I'm certainly never coming here again. read more

If an employer cares at all about its employees, they should not send them to Concentra. Driving over 40 miles to get to this location and being on time for my appointment, they still had me wait an hour to two hours for appointment. The doctor saw me for Less Than 3 minutes. Furthermore, I was approved for physical therapy but the receptionist refused to make an appointment with the physical therapist until I saw the doctor again. Then the doctor questions why I wasn't receiving my physical therapy. So now on top of my injury, I have also lost two days of work because they have kept me there so late without any justification or without any progress on my shoulder injury read more

Although friendly, they have been extremely inefficient as far as wait time, reporting, and follow up. It has taken two days to retrieve drug screen results that were reported the day before. I had been given numbers to the reporting lab and to their online reporting system, but BOTH had told me that it was the Concentra location that was suppose to enter our account information so that I could retrieve results. Twice now, I had called in and was referred to the same woman at the front desk for assistance. They had always forwarded me back to her because she was the 'person I spoke to.' Upon a third or fourth call back to the Concentra location after the lab and their online screening systems, I was connected to her again, only for her to finally ask for other verification information and see what she could do to find the drug screen result. I have used Concentra through many venues for many years. It's a good company. And although this location offers regulated testing and the employees are kind of nice, they are extremely lacking in efficiency of services and general wait time, and I would never again use this Concentra location, if possible. read more

Incredibly incompetent workers. I waited 3 hours for a simple drug screening and physical for a pre-work examination. The office claimed my future employer didn't send them my info, however, after waiting an hour a decent worker actually found my file that was overlooked by one of their many incompetent workers. I wish I could say nicer things because their employees were friendly, but you can be nice and if you don't do your job then you're useless. If I was a business I would never partner with this pathetic excuse for a clinic. Never come here unless you want to wait for hours and hours on end. I am a medical student staying in Jersey City to commute to the city for school. This was my first time at any Concentra. Overall, I was very pleased with my visit. It is located on the 4th floor of an office building by Journal Square but the security officer on the first floor is very friendly and will direct you. The office was clean, and the employee at the desk was very pleasant. He was a young man and greeted everyone that came in the door and also made sure that everyone was being helped. Very knowledgable and answered any questions that the patients had about their insurance.They offered free coffee and tea in the waiting room and also had the TV on that provided entertainment while people waited. I was a new patient so I had to fill out forms so they could get all my information. I give it 4 stars instead of 5 because the wait in the waiting room did take a while, but nothing crazy. Reading others reviews I knew I probably had to wait. Once I was called back the process went pretty efficiently. The nurse did a focused exam but did not report her findings to me, but as a medical student I knew what she was doing and she was doing her assessment correctly. She just did not talk very much. The doctor came in and was very pleasant and very patient oriented. He did a more extensive health history than the nurse which I appreciated. Explained all the tests before he did them and also explained why he did them. I had Strep A resulting in tonsillitis. Explained the medication he prescribed, and also incorporated alternative medicines that could possibly help as well. Medically I thought my experience was superb, it was just the wait that knocked one star off. Very good for a walk in clinic. read more

I wish I could say I had a similar experience to the two posters before me. Unfortunately, it felt more like a school nurse's office, with a staff who really couldn't possibly care any less. As I walked in, there were about 5 young women in hospital scrubs hanging around talking behind the counter. I don't begrudge socializing at work, but it was one of those painfully cliquish scenarios that makes you feel as though you just broke up a good time. They greeted me half-heartedly, looking a little put out and not making much eye contact. I told them I was there for an 11:00 appointment, scheduled by my wife's doctor. They told me there was no such appointment, but they would take me as a walk-in. I said ok, and asked if they accept my insurance. They said they didn't, and the visit would be $95. I knew it was an important test (it was to find out if I have a gene which would be harmful for my soon to be child - my wife's pregnant), and so i said I'd pay by credit card. No problem they said. Before anything, they swipe my card. I then waited an hour. Finally, I was brought to the examination room, where I waited another twenty minutes for the doctor. He arrived and explained that he didn't know why I was here, since they don't perform that test, and will have to draw blood and send away for the results. This, he explained, would be very expensive costing hundreds of dollars. He suggested he write me a prescription for the test, and I go to a center covered by my insurance. I thanked him, because that seemed like it was a considerate thing to do. I then waited another 30 minutes as he wrote a prescription. So after two hours of waiting around and $95, I was sent packing with a prescription. Concentra then called me up about two hours later, explained they made a mistake and I would have to come back for the test, which would be covered through my wife's insurance. I arrive the next day, they again dont know why I'm there, but regroup quickly this time. They then refuse to refund my $95 even though Im told the prescription is invalid and would not be accepted where they were sending me anyway. I would continue my tirade, but you must be bored by now. Long story short, they ripped me off, wasted my time, and the the level of professionalism at this place felt more like hanging out in the parking lot of a nightclub at 2 in the morning.
