Waygu Beef Sukiyaki
Adriana B.

Next door to another Japanese restaurant, which has one of the freshest sushi in town, I recommend Condor for the Waygu Beef Hot Pot. The most delicious beef broth I had in ages and I've been going around to lots of Asian spots eating beef soups. It is simply delicious. I also had the soft crab and edamame beans for entree. They have Saporo on tap, bonus! :-) The service is really friendly, but can be a little slow. Just be patient, it's worth it. Prices are great too.

Busy lunch place on the other end of city. Right next door is another Japanese place so they have some competition. However decent serving size of food. I've had better Japanese however this is a good option to consider.

First of all the place is not open in the afternoon until 5 pm. I got there at 455 pm and was told to wait. Ordered some steamed gyoza and DanDan Mien. Both were good. The gyoza a bit too large for my taste. More like Mainland Chinese dumplings. The DanDan Mien slightly spicy though the noodles really nice and a good bite to it. Pricing as decent and would come again if I need as infusion of Asian taste when here in Sydney

Condor menu

I enjoyed my time at the Condor which was just around the corner from The York Hotel where we were staying. Most mains are around $16. The only annoyance were the tables inside were way too close together (20cm apart) making private conversation impossible - understandable given the limited room. For mains I had the chicken teriyaki don and for desert the tiramisu was off the menu but the green tea icecream grew on me. Cheap, filling and friendly Japanese service.

Gyoza, $3

Two delicious ramen/bento places right next door to each other? Sure, why not? Both Condor and its neighbour have been steadily busy whenever I walk by, and the two are both pretty darn good from my experience. I decided I was really hungry on my visit to Condor so I grabbed a gyoza entree. The gyoza were beautiful, even better with the chilli oil I splashed over them. Next up was the Jigoku Ramen for $13 (extra hot, please) - a huge serve, nice and spicy, with tons of veg and some roast pork. I wound up not being able to finish the ramen. I blame the gyoza, but at $3 for 3 They were so cheap and delicious that it didn't matter and I'm most likely to do the same next time. So which of the two rate better? They both have their strengths. Condor offers more choices for spicy ramen than its neighbour, Goshu Ramen Tei, and was $0.50 - $1.00 less per bowl from what I saw. That said, I slightly preferred both the noodles and broth at Goshu. Both shops have shichimi togarashi on the table - a chili powder/spice mixture that I've only recently discovered and started sprinkling over a good amount of the food I consume - seriously addictive stuff. If I had to recommend one I'd go with Goshu, but I'm more likely to return to Condor as they have more spicy ramen dishes for me to try.

This place is really good for the price that you pay. I come here a lot of good cheap Japanese food. The ramen here is good, and so is the hot pot. Staff are friendly but not very attentive. You have to do the 'constant stare' to get their attention.

Japanese curry with karaage chicken.

This place has decent food. I have not tried the hot pot yet but that seems to be the right move on the menu. The best thing about this place is that it's seemingly always open. Late at night. On weekends. When all others feed shops are closed this one leaves the light on - potentially bc they as next door to the Travelodge hotel? Service is fast and efficient. Everything is tasty but it's not go out of your way to try it tasty... However if you need a hot ramen, curry or gyoza while in the wilds of the north west CBD its worth a try.

Food was pretty good. Definitely recommend the pork gyozas. Service was fast and food was well priced for somewhere in the city centre

Staff hardly understands English and got my order wrong. The sushi wasn't very good either. I won't go back.

Motto is the underdog of Japanese restaurants at Sussex Centre. Not only do they live in the shadow of highly rated Ramen Ikkyu, but Motto's location doesn't get the best foot traffic either. CHICKEN KATSU PLATE ($9) OMG!!!! Best bang for your buck for suuuuure! The chicken is exactly how Chicken Katsu is supposed to be made. Crispy, flaky outside and juicy inside. If you've read my other reviews, you know I can consider myself a bit of a Chicken Katsu snob since that's my go-to-dish at Japanese restaurants. To top things off with this belly-loving dish, you get rice, a side salad w/dressing and miso soup... Oh and almost forgot THE BEST part - FREE ICE CREAM!!!!! Definitely coming back again to try another suggestion..

With relatively few staff that have to multitask between assembling, serving and taking orders, the queue rapidly lengthened behind us as dinner hours began. We ordered the karage bowl, plain wagyu bowl, the teriyaki chicken salad, assortment of side dishes and the matcha milk. The fried chicken is lightly battered and has a strong soy sauce flavor, topped with a layer of mayo. While the slightly undersized pieces have just came out from the fryer, the exterior barely have any crisp and is quite oily, while the interior is a little overcooked. The beef, different from its thick and succulent appearance on the menu, is overcooked and stringy. However, the flavoring on point and the topped spring onions are cut perfectly. Nothing special about the salad, and the same for the self-served takoyaki-on-a-skewer and cold tofu with sliced spring onions. The self-serve matcha milk was a pleasant surprise, with the right level of sugar and bitterness, only lacking some creaminess.
