This was a first time for me heading to Queen Elizabeth outdoor poor. Located by Kinsmen Park and right on the river valley. Once all the construction is finished by the bridge, I bet that will be a lovely walk in the summer. Pack up for a day out because there is nowhere to buy food. Picnic is a must! There are a lot of nice spots to sunbathe, hide in the shade and sit by the pool. The pool is large but on a sunny summer day be prepared for it to be busy! There isn't a ton of room once in but I do like that they divide the pool up into three sections. One for kids, one for people just floating or swimming leisurely, and one for divers. There were a lot of divers! It made for great people watching. As I mentioned, it's free to go. The door staff just check your bags and make you empty water bottles out before you can enter. The changing facilities and wash rooms are clean and well maintained.

I got there 20 min before they opened and there was already a lineup. There are a few big trees on the grass for shade and lounge chairs in the sun. The zero-depth pool entry is great for kids to walk in and play in the shallow water.

I am currently agonizing over this review because I believe it deserves a higher rating. If I was…read morereviewing this like if it was a restaurant that I had only attended one time, it would've been five stars. However, as I am a member and frequent this place multiple times a week, I cannot help notice small observations that can be easily improved. First of all the strengths. It offers a wide variety of options considering it's expansive size where there is a diverse variety of fitness options such as swimming, multitude of fitness classes, weights, cardio and the list goes on. Parking is great as it offers convenient spots for mothers and small children. There are amazing locker facilities and exclusive services for a premium (spa like atmosphere like your own personal lockers, towels service, massage, steam room, exclusive showers). Cardio machines and strength equipment are state of the art. There are treadmills, ellipticals, bikes, and stairclimbers for miles, where each is equipped with monitors that can provide internet, tv, YouTube, or strictly your workout monitor. Staff are friendly available from 530AM-1030PM. They even have child care. Despite all my praises, here are my concerns: *Entrance/Exit should have automatic sliding doors with the high volume of traffic. Although it's gentlemen like and great karma to hold the door for many streams of people, it disrupts flow, and takes up time. * It would be great to have a key fob to quickly pass through the sensors as opposed to trying to find your access card in wallet, passing it through the sensor and having to tuck it back into your purse/wallet. I know it sounds petty, but when you're pressed for time coming in 4 times a week, every second counts. Not only other clubs have this, but their fobs give you 24 hour access. *I understand that with the vast service they provide, membership is a pretty penny. I paid 700 dollars for one year. I would have liked it if they offered two semi annual payments as opposed to just monthly or one lump sum. Overall, I am very satisfied with the service at this fitness facility. It offers something for everybody no matter what your fitness level is. There are significant personal instruction, classes, and the availability of unlimited equipment. However, it is not without its minor flaws that can be easily corrected.

Oh gosh my family finally visited this recreation centre to use the pool (including the waterslide…read moreand the shallow areas with a toddler) and it really was a great experience. Due to capacity limits our friends were unable to join us and so we'll have to try again another time to go with friends but this first experience for a public swim was excellent! The toddler really loved the shark shaped flotation device to ride and the waterslide was a hit all around. The little kid slide was good too though it ended in deeper water than the toddler was used to... it was still enjoyable! The pool was very busy which was a bit overwhelming due to the pandemic. The other fitness areas looked good from afar. The family change room was great though the first locker we tried to use didn't work so we had to try another locker to secure our belongings. I liked the fact that the family change room had everyone change in change rooms which is great -- and it really wasn't a family change room but rather an all-gender/all-abilities change room for the pool which is a refreshing change! Having the lockers be free was great too! And the shower was okay. All in all the this changing facility seemed a bit too busy too but otherwise was just fine. I liked the hot tub and the slide. This facility is reasonably well situated for transit accessibility. Parking is tight but there's a great map for alternate areas if the lot is too busy. We'll be back for more community swims... and possibly for more eventually!

The in-water climbing wall is interesting, if a little odd. Pool is divided into kids' shallower pool with a few spray features and another for lane swimming, which is probably a good choice. The fitness equipment has moved upstairs, and the running track is suspended over the indoor soccer fields, which given the noise level there will mean runners will not be having any zen running experiences. Or their ipods will be cranked up high. There are a couple of multipurpose rooms right off the entrance area - one set up as toddler play room and another with tables and chairs which will undoubtedly host hundreds of birthday parties a year. The parking lot is quite small so when there are two soccer games on it will be crowded. All in all a very nice upgrade to the neighbourhood.

Peter…read moreHemmingway Fitness and Leisure Centre, formerly known as Coronation Fitness Centre, has recently undergone a renovation to include a large built in whirlpool (thank you very much) and overall maintenance. The pool area is 50m, has and wet and dry sauna and a large observation area (accessible from both on and off the pool deck) and is home to the Coronation Triathlon. The large bank of south facing windows lets in amble light and doesn't make you feel like you're sitting in a humid brick cube. The weight room is located in the basement and is rather small, but does suit the bill. This is the first location I started with a trainer a few years ago and holds good memories for me. The change rooms are decent, but if you're working out take flip-flops with you so your feet and socks don't get wet while going through the change room. Tennis courts and a sports field are located just outside is a nice change of pace when the weather is nice. Parking can sometimes be crowded as traffic from comes the arena and school next door. It's a good facility and offers lots of programs for both aquatics and fitness. Because the facility is city run, admission fees are a bit high. But if you purchase a multi-facility pass you can use all of the city rec centres - good bang for your buck.
