City of Tallahassee - Tallahassee Half Marathon

    City of Tallahassee

    (35 reviews)

Tallahassee Florida! The capital of the state of Florida was never an interest of mine to visit…read moreuntil I discovered how close their marathon was to my birthday, after considering running Publix Fort Lauderdale A1A Half Marathon which was a pricier experience compared to visiting Tallahassee. So, the Bank of America Tallahassee Half Marathon ended up becoming my interest in visiting the city the best way I know how, in the form of running! Things I found notable to Tallahassee, let alone the state of Florida that I wanted to try were foods like key lime pie, swamp cabbage, stone crab claws, the grouper sandwich, shrimp & grits, orange juice, and of course legit southern food! Searching for things that make the city unique made me anticipate my visit. From its museums, worst neighborhoods, Elizabeth Budd-Graham, best places to run, to even are there alligators in Tallahassee. Needless to say, it did not take me long to forget about Ft Lauderdale. As for the Tallahassee Marathon, it started in 1975 with only just two runners, an all-volunteer event organized by the Gulf Winds Track Club. Throughout the years, the event has grown to host thousands. The run elevation for this run event was hilly, with rolling hills in the first half and flat terrain during the second. At the time, I reminded myself that with every uphill climb, there is a downhill to follow. I wanted to preserve what energy I had during the downhill portions as well as the flat straightaway just so I would have energy running uphill. I did not have much of a finishing kick because I put so much effort into the first half of the course. The highlights for me were starting downtown at the Florida State Capitol, running through Midtown, Cascades Park, Florida State University campus, the St. Marks Trail, and finishing in College Town. I always love running through neighborhoods during running events because it allows me to see the character of the individuals that live in that area. Prior to my visit, I bookmarked several restaurants to try some of the foods of my interest, but it really blew my mind that Tallahassee had both a Bojangles and Whataburger! Yum! Now the restaurants I ended up visiting were of course Bojangles, where I was able to satisfy my tastebuds with a bo-berry biscuit; Harry's Seafood Bar and Grille where I was able to taste the delicious grouper sandwich, and key lime pie that is known to Florida; and Gaines Street Pies where I carbohydrate loaded with pizza for Tallahassee Half Marathon. Next visit, I would love to visit either Earley's Kitchen, or Olean's Café for my southern food satisfaction. Prior to visiting, I also took interest in Elizabeth Budd-Graham, who is known as the Tallahassee witch! I am very intrigued by history! It intrigues me that we live on soil where individuals like Elizabeth Budd-Graham lived, who had a reputation as a white witch. It was said that her magic was to do good, not harm--casting spells of love and protection for her friends & neighbors. Notable sights that I would love to visit or revisit in Tallahassee in the future are Lafayette Heritage Trail Park, which I just had to put on my bucket list after seeing beautiful pictures of it. And both, the Civil Rights Heritage Walk, and John G Riley Center & Museum, which I stumbled upon before and after running the Tallahassee Half Marathon. I loved Tallahassee! For me it felt like Hawaii without the beaches because of some of its features and things I encountered which were old-fashioned and country! It can be easy to forget that it is a Florida city because it is one that is not high on the radar like some of the others like Orlando, Tampa Bay, Jacksonville, Ft Lauderdale, and Miami. For me, I fell in love with Tallahassee because of its rich history, natural beauty, and modern attractions. I would be very open to revisiting the city of Tallahassee again, perhaps each year during our cold winter months as an escape from the Midwest. The city grew on me within the three days I visited, plus there are some sights I did not get the chance to see that I would love to visit. ~ Keep moving Forward ~ Thomas G

All they do is say repeatedly "we don't do that. the only way that happened is if YOU did it." They offer no help or assistance whatsoever, meanwhile, I just can't figure out on their archaic website to change the payment source for my automatic recurring payment! Why is there no assistance!?!?!?
