The whole experience just fell short. The bar area was full so they took us to the champagne room to wait and said they'd get us when there was space in the bar but they never did. It took 45 minutes to get drinks (we got an app and had finished the whole thing by the time the drinks arrived). The kicker is that my very simple martini order was wrong after 45 minutes in a place that specializes in martinis. It took another 30 minutes for a replacement which was nothing more than average. read more

After watching Málaga fall to Valencia at a pedestrian pub nearby, I was put in charge of our next destination. Mind you, it was past 23:00 so the pickings were slim, but the Coburg at the Connaught Hotel called out to me and so we set off on foot in that direction. The low-key, piano bar surroundings suited me fine but my convoy was reticent. Sensing this, we were directed to the bar in the back. This turned out to be an excellent move and I felt immediately at home in the candlelit atmosphere of the Connaught Bar with its slightly more uptempo music and low leather seating. Think of the Connaught Bar as the younger, sassier cousin to the more distinguished and regal Coburg Bar. Shortly after sitting down, tiny flutes arrived to welcome us (the liquid equivalent of an amuse bouche.) I could not help but be enchanted by this thoughtful touch. My cocktailing cohort was on whiskey but I asked our server for a special recommendation. Passion fruit and campari is not a route I'd go on my own but I happily let her guide me in that direction. When this gorgeous drink arrived, I could not have been more pleased with the outcome. Simply put, this was one of the nicest cocktails I have ever sipped in London. Its price tag was not insignificant, but given the creativity and love clearly exhibited in this libation, I'd call it good value. It requires no stretch of the imagination to see why this spot was named World's Best Hotel Bar at Tales of the Cocktail in New Orleans last year. I can't wait to return. read more

First of all congrats to the Connaught Bar for making it to the too if the World's 50 Best Bars list this year. Well deserved. First of all the the entire staff including the hotel were great. From the time we arrived, drink service to taking our photo by the Christmas tree in the lobby, everything was just perfect. I just had lunch and cocktails at Sexy Fish and had some time to kill before meeting up with friends later that evening. We were seated at a small table for two by the bar with was great since we were able to see the cocktail masters at work. I already had my fill of big production libations at the previous venue and decided to go with something classic. A gin martini. Sometimes a seemingly simple cocktail can be a litmus test for a bar and they did not disappoint. I actually preferred it to Duke's famous Vesper Martini. The martini was the perfect fit for the mood, time of day and the bars timeless decor with Art Deco accents. Looking forward to dropping by again when I back across the pond. read more

What an incredible bar, and it makes sense why it's the world's best. This place is swanky! We arrived early, and thank goodness we did. It got slammed quickly. I ordered two cocktails, and my husband had the famous martini. It was worth the price! They roll the cart over and allow you to smell the bitters on a card to determine your flavor preferences. It was delicious and nice and boozy. We ordered some burrata, which was soft and rich as it should be. At the end, they print you off the cocktail recipes that you ordered as a nice souvenir. Voted the #1 bar in the world! The highlight of the night was watching the bartender make the martini in front of us and asking us to pick out the type of flavoring we liked. My daughter and I were close by this bar and it looked fun. The inside front part of the bar was a beautiful rendition of bars from the past, comfy chairs and rich wood decor. The patio area was modern and looked inviting. The drinks were strong and on point. Good job! If you are looking for a more quite setting there is a bar in the back of this hotel. It is small and intimate. Modern vibe with low lighting. Also good cocktails and champagne served with nuts. read more

Loved the Connaught Bar - dripping in history, power, and fantastic cocktails. Huddled around a small, but nicely appointed cocktail table it was easy to take in the scene, and scene it was. The table next to us was discussing a big I-Banking petroleum deal and the table on the other side had a couple of model wannabes enjoying cocktail hour. I had a bird's eye view of the mixologists and enjoyed the show. Especially when they pulled out the smoke machine to fill the bottle holding my Vieux Connaught (Rum, Rye, Dry Vermouth, Benedictine, Angostura and Orange Bitters, Saffron Smoke). Served in a smoke-filled bottle to be poured over the rocks. If you only pour half the bottle and let the other half continue to steep in the smoke it gets even better. There are plenty of classics on the menu as well if this style isn't your cup of tea. The feel of the place is terrific, the cocktails are expert, and it is a unique institution. When next I need a power cocktail in London I'll head here. read more

Possibly the worst service in London. The highlight of the bar was waiting in line with the delightful hostess staff. The wait was long, the martini was not dirty, nor was it decent. The espresso martini was lacking liquor. My burger was ordered well done with no sauce it came raw doused in sauce. But what made matters worse was the horrific wait staff. A. Marciano. She gave us attitude for calling her after waiting for 15 minutes of getting our food. Then proceeded to be rude. Cleared the table without a word. No would you like another drink? Sorry your order was wrong. Worst service ever! read more

In 2016, The Connaught Bar at The Connaught hotel in Mayfair won the award for World's Best Cocktail Bar. So does it live up to that honor? I haven't been to enough award-winning bars to be able say for sure, but The Connaught Bar is outstanding. Mind you, this is not a bar where you get wasted with the bros. It's a sophisticated setting to enjoy an outstanding cocktail. Coming here is a little like being transported to the pages of The Great Gatsby. We enjoyed two drinks: Faraway Collins (£19) - a unique twist on the classic Tom Collins, made with No.3 gin, sarsaparilla infused soda, fresh yuzu juice, and eucalyptus-infused homemade sugar syrup. Hidden Park (£17) - a reinterpretation of the Green Park created in 2013 by the award-winning bartender Erik Lorincz at the American bar at the Savoy, made with Hendricks gin, clarified pink grapefruit juice, basil and Szechuan pepper syrup, and Gruner wine. Both were unique, perfectly balanced, and very yummy. The tariff for drinks is rather steep, but how often does one get to go to the best cocktail bar in the world? Connaught Bar was far and away one of the highlights of our visit to London. We visited mid-Afternoon on a rainy Good Friday, and the bar was rather quiet. The Connaught has an air of old London throughout, with elaborate flourishes of days yore. The bar itself is not very large, with perhaps a dozen or so seating areas. Though the space feels formal, our interactions with bartenders were extremely friendly and warm. Most importantly, the cocktails were incredible and live up to the many accolades proudly presented behind the bar. The menu contains dozens of options, suited to virtually any taste. Whimsical naming and clear descriptors make the menu fun to peruse. We tried several on this visit: - Blood Orange Martini (Blood Orange Infused Star of Bombay Gin, Martini Ambrato Vermouth - £21) - Blood Orange Spritzer (Galliano L'Aperitivo, Italicus Rosolio di Bergamotto, Blood Orange Juice, Laurent Perrier 'La Cuvee' Champagne - £20) - Hidden Park (Hendricks Gin, Pink Grapefruit Juice, Basil and Szechuan Pepper Syrup, Gruner Wine - £18) - Sting Like A Bee (Bee Pollen Infused Armagnac Darroze, Orange Blossom Syrup, Lime Juice, Brut Champagne - £19) - Float Like A Butterfly (Milk Punch, Michter's Bourbon, Tapatio Reposado Tequila, Brut Champagne - £19, provided complimentary) Though they are not inexpensive, each has a level of ingredients and quality of thought that makes the price seem rather justifiable. At the end, we were given recipe cards for each of the drinks we enjoyed, a cool touch. Certainly among the best cocktails we had in London, or indeed anywhere. All in all, the Connaught Bar was a memorable part of our visit to London, and we highly recommend visiting if you have the opportunity. Is this true one of the worlds best? It's hard to say but it's definitely excellent. The drinks were creative and interesting to taste. In fact, there were so many drinks we wanted to try it was very hard to choose. The setting was very grand, filled with the people that you would expect. Connaught Bar very much worth the visit. I remember making the trek there after a whole day of walking in semi high heels and by the time I got to Connaught Bar and plopped myself onto the bar stool, I didn't want to leave. We first heard about this place when leafing through our monthly subscription of Food and Wine Magazine. Listed as one of the 10 Best Bars in the world, we knew this place had to be part of our itinerary in London. Located in the plush Mayfair area, Connaught Bar is inside the luxury 5-star Connaught Hotel. With leather arm chairs and mostly working professional crowd as the clientele, the atmosphere at Connaught Bar is classic and proper. The list of cocktails is extensive. We had questions about some of their listed liquor and clearly the bartenders there know their stuff. We usually always like to sit at the bar rather than at the table since the bar is where all the action is. Each drink is carefully and thoughtfully crafted and served on its on own platter. The last time we were there, on each platter was a skewer of fruits that consisted of green and red grapes, blueberries, a raspberry and a kumquat. If you love good cocktails, then you are at the right place. According to Food and Wine Magazine, the top two mixologists in London oversees the extensive cocktail list. That itself warrants a visit to Connaught Bar. read more

Oooooh this place is pretty! So fashionable and total perfection for a classy martini bar. The subtle mirrored walls and velvet seating is intimate yet happening. Modern and elegant at the same time keeping with the iconic Connaught Hotel style yet not at all old world stuffy. The bar itself it a work of art, lit up with light green lighting it glows. The drink list is a mixology of the classics along with an exciting champagne drinks list as well. Indeed pick your poison and enjoy. But the star of the space is the martini trolly where you can pick from 7 different bitters for the best martini you've ever had. If you want a drink from the martini trolly do specify that you would like a 'CONNAUGHT' martini, as a 'Classic' martini will come direct from the bar and not with the entertainment of a gloved bartender coming to your table to mix your drink in front of you. A delightful experience and one I keep repeating. read more

The Coburg bar is one of my favorite spots in London. There seems to be a bit of a confusion with regards to the different bars at the Connaught hotel, so maybe this will help - There are two 'bars' at this marvelous Mayfair hotel - 1) the Connaught bar, located on the left hand side of the lobby, serving mainly drinks from 4pm until 1 am; and 2) the Coburg bar, located on the right, open from 8am until 1am, which, in addition to a (superb) drinks menu, also has an all day dinning menu and serves breakfast. There is no designated page for the Coburg bar on Yelp, so I'm writing my thoughts on the COBURG BAR on this page instead. This elegant bar provides, in my opinion, the perfect London experience. It feels like you got to go back in time to the 1920s, when gentlemen wearing cylinder hats opened the doors to respectful looking ladies :) the most elegant and inviting decor, perfectly lit, warm, with the most comfortable sofas, a lovely fireplace and cozy window seats. As you would have expected from such an establishment, the service is impeccable. Everything on the menu is top notch. From the excellent soy latte, to the best espresso martini I have ever tasted, to the beautiful presentation of toasted bread and organic jam and marmalade to accompany your cup of tea. It is an expensive joint indeed, but absolutely worth it. Vegans can easily enjoy fresh fruit, toasted bread and soy latte for breakfast. Btw, definitely not the place to show up in your ripped denim and sweatshirt. No reservations policy for both bars. Must visit. At least once. read more

Connaught Bar was one of my favorite cocktail bars in London. All of the servers in the bar went above and beyond to make sure we were comfortable and enjoyed our time there. The cocktails were also wonderful. I ordered the Faraway Collins, a twist on a Tom Collins, and it was complex, but very refreshing. My boyfriend ordered the martini and it was quite the experience. They brought a martini cart over to our table and allowed us to select the base liquor, the bitters, and the garnish. It really was spectacular and unforgettable. Highly recommend! read more

Note: If you have budget constraints, this is not your place. If money doesn't matter to you (or who ever is treating you and may be after a questionable experience at Scott's down the road), Connaught Bar is about as good as it gets. On first sight, it looks like a typically, over the hill fancy London hotel bar. Oh. That Scott's swipe was us. Fancy yet casual, the bar staff was the most genuinely nice people putting up with a humble, five country, raucous bunch that needed drinks urgently. First, we had an Italian sparkler - no, not Prosecco, much better but I cannot recall. Eventually, we progressed to malts. To my delight, they had Hibiki 17, but then I also saw Balvenie 21. At the same price, Bal21 wins (big time), because I am going to get my Hibiki 17 at my usual watering hole in Tokyo. So I am amazed that I made it to the cab and back to my more pedestrian hotel accommodations, but Connaught is on my list for the days when budgets do not matter anymore. Long way away, but dreaming is fun. read more

The Connaught Bar was one of our favorites of all the bars we visited in London. It simply exudes class and sophistication. The ambiance is amazing and the cocktails are even better! Most of the people in the bar were very well dressed and matched the decor of the gorgeous setting. Of course for all of this you're going to pay about £20 per cocktail, which is probably the most expensive cocktail I've ever bought. I really feel like the expertise of those tending bar and the environment makes the cost very much worth it. read more

We went for casual drinks after work after hearing about all the hype. And largely, it met my expectations. I ordered two drinks (Pearendipity, Bentley No.2), and I liked both. They were an appropriate balance of something classic with a pinch of novelty particular to the bar's secret recipe. Ambience was very posh but also surprisingly intimate. Based on publicised pictures, I had thought the place would be larger, but it was relatively cozy which made it feel all the more exclusive. Service was generally prompt and kind. I'm pretty pretentious and also a bit of a lush so the Coburg Bar was just right for a Christmas catch-up with an old friend. Staff were attentive without being obsequious and the cocktails were note-perfect. We had Manhattans, Old-Fashioneds, Whiskey Sours and Tom Collinses (I wasn't sure if ordering scattergun from the menu is the done thing in cocktail circles, but my knowledge of the classic drinks is poor and I wanted to put names to faces) and all were exquisite. The drinks were so good and the armchairs were so luxurious that I briefly considered checking in for the night. There's no denying that this is an expensive night out, but it is the ultimate hotel bar experience and you get free crisps and olives. Don't try to take these home - the other guests will give you funny looks. read more

Upon coming in here for the first time, it is easy to see why it was chosen by Food & Wine as one of the Worlds Top Cocktail Bars for 2010. An immaculate cocktail menu that runs the gamut from obscure classics all the way up to innovative house originals is certain to please any cocktail enthusiast. But if you are in the mood for a nice bourbon or scotch instead of a cocktail, than you will be pleased with the spirits selection that they have to offer. After an amazing Yelp party at the Grosvenor Hotel, I wanted to take my ladies out to one of the swankiest bars that i remember from when i came to visit london in 2007 on holiday. Two streets down was this amazing, swanky bar. The lights are dim, and immediately we were greeted with a nice area to sit, a mini mango-champagne cocktail, and a nut mixture/olives. We ordered a bottle of sauvignon blanc, and i swear i would never do this, but it actually wasnt that great and we asked that the bartender try the bottle. he agreed that it was not good (maybe actually something wrong with it), and asked us if we wanted something else. we then ordered another bottle, which was just amazing and we were super pleased. The waitresses are beautiful and very sweet (good for the gents), and i was very happy to been able to show my friends around to one of the most famous bars in mayfair. Definitely coming back for a post-dinner cocktail with my man soon! read more

Even the old-school luxury hotels in Mayfair haven't been safe from the absolute revamp of London's accomodation during the past few years. Once comfortable resting on it's very civilized and well established laurels, the Connaught Bar, renamed the Coburg Bar, at the Connaught Hotel is a fine example of the modern British bar who doesn't want to forget it's roots completely. The bar area is a small rectangle lined with wing back chairs that were once upholstered in the usual old-English style textiles, but now sport new coverings of trimmed velvet and leather. If you're in a couple then the Heppelwhite chairs cosily fit two with just enough space to eye each other intimately over a very fine cocktail. The lovely fireplaces at either end are very striking and you wont find old master paintings above their mantle, but some very striking, modern black and white cameo style pieces. I really love what they've achieved here as the stuffiness associated with hotel bars has been lost along with the archaic decor. As well as being a very comfortable space, with a touch of the proper, the service is very friendly (although a hint of the formal does still remain) and there isn't even a whiff of pretension about the bar staff who thankfully make an evening here far less intimidating than one would expect from a five-star-hotel bar. The cocktails are £12 and rising, which doesn't bother the well dressed and obviously moneyed crowd and although I'd prefer to pay less they really are rather good. Their signature drink, the Apple Martini, is made with the hotels very own pear and apple liqueur, and with a hint of cinnamon it's one of the best I've tried. I only wish I could have a room here as after a few drinks you really get into the swing of things and fancy carrying on the highlife in a luxury suite! read more

Totally a cop out, but the Grasshopper here was amazeballs. None of that cheap liquor neon green crap you get at your local frat party. Drinks are expensive (~15) but it was a very lovely place with complimentary nuts and olives, and a swanky crowd. From taking coats, to delivering a complimentary shot/mini signature 'welcome' drink, to absurdly attentive (absurd, but appreciated!) refilling of rosemary-infused olives, crisp cracker-breads and cucumber water...10 stars, 10 stars, both hands, all digits up. 10! 10! 10! Now, this ain't a cheap place to power-drink. Cocktails run in the 18GBP range. Yep. Ouch. I know, I know, I feel ya. Take your time, sip slowly, take it all in. The cocktail menu is extensive, with some perfectly executed classics (I had a killer old fashioned; my +1 had an amazingly presented bloody mary with an unpretentious-totally-not-superfluous foam atop) and some more creative twists. It gets jammed late on Fridays and Saturdays. It is the most civilized spot conceivable for sophisticated late-afternoon day-drinking. Yelp note: be strategic and nab one of the leather 'nooks'. This place is so warm and snuggly. The oversized, squishy, wingback, leather chairs beckon you to remove your shoes and curl up in front of the fireplace, but I'm not really sure how the staff would feel about that. They really didn't appreciate us moving the chairs around to accommodate a third person, so I'm going to guess they would not be please with the above shoe scenario. Drinks are not cheap, but are very good. The cocktail and wine lists are both thorough, and managed to appease both my Hemingway Daiquiri-loving husband and his wino friend (I stuck with my dirty Tanq 10). There were two barkeeps working the night we were there, so I'm not exactly sure why the service was so slow. The room was by no means overflowing, but it was nicely abuzz with patron banter. Visited here or a friend's anniversary after the wait was too long at Claridge's. Cosy, dim cocktail bar that was definitely refined, but didn't give off a snooty vibe. Their cocktail and alcohol list is extensive and or a fun twist they arrange the cocktails in chronological order as to when they were "invented" (didn't fact-check them too hard... :)). Service was prompt and friendly and the bar nibbles were tasty and plentiful (which one would hope given the drink prices!) Both gin-based cocktails that I had were excellent. Yet another lovely venue in London. Had drinks at the Coburg Bar and loved the rich, warm decor. A perfect place to grab a drink when it's brisk outside. The clientele is professional so you can enjoy drinks in a nice setting... it has strong energy but everyone is well mannered. In my opinion, this is the best spot in Mayfair for pre dinner cocktails before a meal at one of the high end restaurants nearby: Hakkasan, Scott's, Benares etc. It's one for special occasions like birthdays or anniversaries rather than your run of the mill Saturday night. Cocktails start at £17, so the bill gets high very quickly. However it delivers what you would expect from a 5 star hotel in Mayfair. The atmosphere, decor and layout in the bar makes it perfect for couples, the service is top class and the cocktails are exceptionally well made. Their version of an old fashioned with saffron smoke is my personal favourite. Worth visiting above any of the bars within nearby restaurants and hotels. The American Bar at the Beaumont is the only one nearby that comes close. read more
