Yesterday, the post office delivered a certified letter to my home which required my signature. Lo and behold, I was being "fired" as a patient for what they deemed to be two no-shows on my part. My initial appt. was June of 2015. I phoned three days before the appt. and left a cancellation message on voicemail. They did not log this in their database and put it down as a no-show. When I phoned them about it, the receptionist told me not to worry. She said they do not always log the voice messages and that it was no big deal. Fast forward to last Monday. I was not well enough to get to my appt. so I phoned a good three hours prior to cancel. Receptionist told me about their 24-hour notice rule..she put me down as a no-show. I even offered to pay for the appt. out of pocket because I felt guilty about calling that morning to cancel. She replied "Oh, we don't do that". Few days later, the official letter firing me as an "almost" patient arrived. Newsflash: This is a neurology office and some patients are really, really compromised. We do our level best to get to our appointments. Sometimes we make it...sometimes we don't. I understand that by cancelling at the last minute, we are taking time away from another patient. That's unfortunate to be sure. However, you should at least allow patients to pay for a missed appt. out of pocket instead of just putting them out to pasture. Additionally, in my book the definition of a "no-show" is when a patient just doesn't show up...no phone call, no notice whatsoever. That's not polite and should have ramifications. However, if a patient does give courtesy notification, don't punish them for it. I'm very fortunate now to have a personal physician who comes to my home. It was with pleasure that I tore up the letter yesterday and put it in the trash. However, not everyone is able to have their own personal doctor. For those patients, Fransciscan Health needs to implement less rigorous guidelines.

They copied my phone number from the referral wrong and didn't try to get a hold of me though my email or contact my doctor to verify my contact information, they just gave up trying to contact me after 1 phone call with the wrong number, so after a week I finally called them. After 30 minutes on hold I was told that the doctor I had been referred to had left. They had randomly picked another doctor and needed to transfer my call. So i sat on hold again and the system eventually disconnected me. I called back and waited another 30 minutes only to be told that to use the doctor I wanted they would have to wait another day while they asked permission. So I called back the next day and waited another 30 minutes on hold and was told they couldn't schedule me because I hadn't had imaging done yet. I had told them the previous time I called that imaging was done we were just waiting on the radiologist to comment and release it, but apparently nobody noted that and the person I was currently talking to didn't care. So now if I want to use them I will have to wait until my results have posted call back, waiting on hold again, to maybe get an appointment. I think I will find another provider instead.

Multicare and Tacoma General are truly blessed to be employing Dr. MARY STORM. She is one of the smartest, incredibly knowledgeable doctors that I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. Her dedication to the field of medicine and helping people is above reproach, as is her character. I cannot and will not ever be able to express the amount respect and gratitude I have for her for saving my life. Not only did she save my life she gave me back the quality of life that I believed was not possible. And when I walked into my appointment with her today after we greeted each other and she asked how I was feeling and how have my headaches have been and I replied" they are not and i haven't had any" and asked me to clarify, I repeated I don't have a headache. She stopped what she was doing and her face lit with genuine happiness and a big smile and she was happy for me, her patient. She never made me feel like I was being a pain when I was and she is an exemplary employee and the compassion for others she exhibits for those around her and her patients is nothing short of extraordinarily admirable. Dr. MARY STORM is the model of what a Neurogist and DOCTOR should be and one that all Multicare employees should strive for if they want to at the top of their profession. She is amoung the elite of her profession in the field of neuroscience and you couldn't be more lucky and/or fortunate to have her as a staff member at Multicare. She diagnosed my condition and confirmed it in 6 days and her relentless efforts to help me paid off. She is a true professional and due to Dr. MARY STORM's extreme knowledge and caring nature, she saved my life. She figured it out because she cared enough to figure it out. I have been dealing with this since 2010. I first met Dr. MARY STORM June 12th, 2024 and today I am headache free. They say not all heroes wear capes, sometimes they wear white coats (and cute red shoes from their travels)! She has restored my faith in humanity and human kindness and in the medical profession. THANK YOU. Mary Yost

She took me utterly seriously and found my big, intelligent, relatable brain hiding behind the puke-y migraine. When I shambled in to see Dr. Murivova, I had "chronic daily headache" aka it felt like I'd had an icepick in my eye for WHOLE PAST THREE MONTHS. I was very surprised at some of her recommendations, both in how holistic they were and the pharmaceutical aspects: 20mg a day of melatonin? a very old drug called DHE (works better than anything else, turns out)? She even suggested moving from Seattle, climate wise - or trying a warmer climate. The whole time she made me feel validated, intelligent, capable of solving this problem and empowered. She gave me the research to read. She's a migraine genius, yes, but also a total migraine geek. I can see how their focus on healthy weight (defined by abdominal waist measurements, which often means weight loss) and diet (though changing my diet to avoid migraine triggers has been a huge help for me) might be off putting for some. They mete out some tough love but I always felt like Dr. Murinova and her NP are genuinely caring and lovely. I turned a real bend and broke that awful migraine streak because of her. When I had to come in to get a shot because of a terrible migraine, they were so concerned and had me lay down a long time before going home. Nobody likes to hear about lifestyle changes when their head feels like it's being put through a wood chipper - but I benefitted a great deal from them, darn them. Maybe the clinic could balance the short term and long term better. I have all my care at Swedish now. I recommend my doctor, Gary Schuster, as a primary care doctor who is a migraine expert. Dr. Murinova is great, though -- she's just popular. You might want to try Mary Reif at Minor and James or the Swedish Pain and Headache Clinic if she's booked up.

I can't describe the disappointment I felt when she breezed into the room with a seemingly tie dyed scarf and proceeded to tell about how she made it and demanded that I try it and bring the results to my next appointment. If I wasn't so devastated I should have challenged the charges to my insurance. Some years later I took an online course from dr murinova that was completely lacking in privacy and focused on trying to make flowers bloom and kittens chase butterflies using biofeedback to cure your migraines. I'm sorry but this was a complete turnoff, finally lessons learned and I have given up of any sort of meaningful treatment from this clinic.

After surgery he explained well what happened and his office answered my questions quickly via MyChart. No one else I'd trust with my actual brain! He didn't pick up on my sarcasm, when I chuckled, told him it was a worry when a specialist doesn't know why a patient is there to see them, then I said, "Well, we could start with the brain tumor." He told me that my chronic headaches, which sometimes feel like my eye is being pushed out, was unrelated to my tumor, that my vision changes were unrelated to my tumor, the frontal lobe where my brain tumor is has nothing to do with higher level math or communication. He told me that he could be 100% certain it was a benign meningioma from imaging. He said he could be certain the other tumors were unrelated: three breast tumors with discordant pathology/radiology, a contrast enhanced extradural spinal mass, and Drs trying to determine if I have a single adrenal tumor or bilateral, and others. He didn't ask me about any other symptoms - such as the toe twitching that recently started. My husband started worrying when he started to repeatedly beat me at Carcassonne, which used to be 1/6 games. My son thought the tumor explained some of my personality changes. The worst, Dr Cobbs claimed that 10% of all women have this type of brain tumor! My husband joined us (via FB messenger). Afterwards, he said, "Did he just say that 10% of all women have meningioma brain tumors? I'll have to look that up." Both my husband and I have done scientific research. I even wrote to Dr Cobbs to make sure we got his message right (attached). In the communication, he then said that higher level math was in the area of concern. I'm an applied mathematician. Women beware!!!!

I was told by another highly respected spinal surgeon that I could become paralyzed in both arms and not be able to feed myself soon because of the severe narrowing of my cervical spinal canal and I would need to undergo a posterior approach 4 level cervical fusion surgery which is extremely painful and difficult on the patient. He also stated that only a two level fusion could be done from an anterior approach. It took a couple of months to get a second opinion appointment with Dr. Oskouian but very well worth the wait. He did some additional tests and told me he could do a 3 level fusion from an anterior approach and this should help my current symptoms and prevent further deterioration. I decided to have Rod do the surgery and have been extremely happy with the results. I am 4 1/2 months out from surgery and doing amazingly well. A friend saw him a couple of years ago with a much less acute issue & he told her there was a chance it could resolve on it own without surgery and if she eventually did require surgery, she didn't need his skill level. She was very impressed. I am an example of someone who had a major spinal problem and he is the expert I needed!

To summarize, in 1999 I was a 15 year old high school athlete. One day playing soccer, my vision disappeared for 5-10 minutes. This became a routine thing every 2-3 days, without any given trigger or correlation. I went to my family practice doctor, allergist, neurologist, ophthalmologist, and finally a neurosurgeon (too see if it was related to an eye issue I was born with). I was given many answers of what it "could" be.... Over a 2-3 year period, I tried 5-6 different medications, all with limited efficacy, and a plethora of side effects. Eventually I learned to deal with the issue, as the medications weren't worth the high cost, or side effects. Life was rough, but manageable (going blind every 2-3 days without warning). After a single visit with Dr. Robin Moore in 2004, she was able to help identify what was causing my visual issue. And more importantly, what was triggering the issue. I was able to change my habits, change my diet, and the issue has all but dissipated since. I have not seen Dr. Robin Moore since my single 2004 visit (I moved to LA after graduating UW), but I will soon visit her, to thank her. That one visit changed my life. I've told my story many times. I'm still very much in debt to her! And very much appreciate her help!
