She found a really cute vest and bought it. They were having a BOGO sale too, so that was a plus. Also the bag that they put her purchases in was really cool. Becky found a few things she liked, but ended up talking a pass. Perhaps next time in OB. The store is doesn't look that big from the outside, but is quite large on the inside. Shift and Connect: A Jurassically Twisted Art Safari By the time I stumbled into Shift and Connect, the art gallery-slash-shop with the charm of a velociraptor on a bender, I was already deep into a peyote-fueled hunt for the perfect T-Rex skull lamp. What I found instead was a kaleidoscopic maelstrom of colors, chaos, and dinosaur-inspired fever dreams that would have sent Darwin himself scuttling back to the Galápagos, gibbering about a new species of abstract insanity. The shop is a veritable Mesozoic madhouse, a curated collection of art that defies logic, time, and the common decency of a sensible timeline. You're greeted at the door by a stegosaurus skeleton wearing a top hat and monocle, offering a cheerful wave as if to say, "Welcome to the land before time--and sanity." It was unclear if the monocle was ironic or if the dinosaur genuinely had eyesight issues. Inside, the walls are plastered with paintings of dinosaurs doing things they probably never did--like attending raves, smoking cigars, or playing high-stakes poker. Imagine a raptor with a poker face--utterly terrifying and yet strangely dignified, like the ghost of Las Vegas itself had decided to possess a museum exhibit. The centerpiece of this kaleidoscopic menagerie was a life-sized replica of a triceratops, meticulously constructed from old circuit boards and obsolete smartphones--a testament to the fact that evolution is not a straight line, but a Mobius strip twisted around a surrealist's finger. Connect San Diego Connect is a viiibe. effortlessly stylish, vintage finds, local artistry, and music that makes you feel like you're cooler than you actually are. The vintage selection at Connect is wiiiiiiiild, almost offensively so. You know those thrift stores where you have to wade through racks of old work shirts and stained polos just to find a halfway decent pair of jeans? This is not that, baby. Here, every piece feels like it has had a life. That vibing jacket? It's definitely seen a few bad choices but it's also seen so many good ones. The silk dress in the corner? It's been to both heaven and hell. Twice. And yet, the prices make it feel like you're getting away with something. You walk out clutching your finds and feeling good about supporting local artists In the community. I stumbled into this store the first time I visited OB almost 2 years ago. The store seemed really intriguing from the outside and was equally as interesting on the inside. If pop culture, overstimulation, art, and accessories are your thing, you'll be at home here. I've bought stickers and clothes from this store, but the standout product for me is the pin collection. The pins at this store are by far the nicest pins I've ever seen in my life. Holding one of the $25 premium pins will instantly teach you why they're worth every penny. The level of detail on the pins is astounding, they come to life with 3D features and nice materials. Robert has always been extremely kind and patient with me as I inspect each pin to see which one I'm getting this time. I now visit this shop every time I come to OB and I hope to be back in the future. BIG shoutouts to Robert for being welcoming and treating patrons so well. read more

damn!!! coolest little (but kinda big) hole in the wall art gallery. i drove by the day the cardboard "Connect SD" sign was put up in 2020, and still the biggest fan today! beautiful murals everywhere; backyard for spray paint lessons/sketching/messing; local artists selling art and merch; pockets of thrifted clothing racks; random and fascinating art for the collectors. No "thank you" or "have a nice day"; he just walked over and whispered to the female owner standing behind him. My intuition meter was abuzz, but I didn't want to think the worst. Then the Square receipt hit my email and proved my intuition. They tipped themselves $5 on my $19 thrift clothing purchase. I called immediately and told him I knew what they did, and he didn't apologize just said it would be refunded. It's been over 48 hours and nothing. I'm pretty sure I'm not the first person they've done this to, just happened to have my email saved with Square. This is disgraceful business practice and the BBB and Square will be notified. So check your receipts or better yet, take your business to people who don't steal from their customers. Square receipts attached in case they even try to discredit what they did.
