The food is incredible across the board from breakfast, afternoon tea, dinner (both more formal and pub-style). I've stayed in a few different rooms at this point, and they have all been elegantly and luxuriously appointed, with every detail already thought out. We reveled in being absolutely spoiled in this sleeper locale where De Galle once stayed in the late 60s. While the accommodations weren't what one might consider top of the line, they were well-furnished, clean and spacious. Every room but for those occupied was open, providing a true run-of-the-house feel. The food and service exceeded five stars...simply delicious. What fun with potatoes, and extensive vegetarian offerings without so much as a blink. Between the gardens, grounds, and an old nearby cemetery where we sat smoking Cuban cigars and overlooking a bluff, we knew we'd found a slice of heaven. The thought of staying there permanently crossed our minds more than once.

The stately castle hotel, part of the Relais and Chateau association, is a welcoming beacon in the Connemara. Adjacent to a trout/salmon stream just a mile from the ocean and featuring extensive woodland walking trails, one can't help but feel at peace. In fact there's an overwhelming feeling of coziness and calm in the spacious suites with a view to the woods and water. Our suite, #36 was so quiet and beautiful it was a treat returning to it after exploring the wild Atlantic way. The two easy chairs with views quickly became our his/hers perches for reflection. Our superior king suite itself was very large with a four poster bed and ample room to spread out and settle in while the generous bathroom with its tub, shower, two sinks and make up desk added to our comfort. With its two restaurants the fisherman's pub (casual) and fine dining Owenmore restaurant one never need seek sustenance elsewhere. The beautiful breakfast that was included provided masterfully cooked to order entrees along with a sumptuous buffet each morning to get you started on your day of exploration. We also enjoyed the beautiful walled garden which is not to be missed and some of the well Maintained walking trails through ancient forest. Exceptional property and lovely (but too short) stay. There are 20+ rooms and some have balconies. Most rates come with breakfast which they serve continental early 7am-9am, and full Irish breakfast begins later at 9AM. The hotel restaurant and bar on premise are quite good. It's a short/easy 5 min walk from the hotel to the center of town. They contract with local tour guides to pick you up if you wish to take an island tour. The front desk is pretty strict about check-in and didn't let us check in before 3PM even though we were on the 10:30AM ferry that got in around 11:30AM, but they do let you store your luggage behind the front desk. P.S. They tend to have a lot of weddings at this hotel as there are banquet tents, so be prepared for potential parties (bachelor or bachelorette) on certain weekends.

From the small back deck you can look over this town all the way to the high cliffs that drop into the ocean, creating picturesque views of the orange, red and pink sunset. We arrived to a small sign personally welcoming us. Niall and Darra treated us like family while we stayed at their house and even dined at their table. They were personally acquainted with the entire area and gave us honest recommendations for spending our days there. We were able to see the Cliffs without crowds because of their directions. We then had the perfect dinner of local food at Roadford House where we walked along stonewalls past cows, horses, and sheep to the intimate dining room overlooking pastures. We ended the night by enjoying local music at O'Connor's Pub just a minute walk from the Sea View. We would highly recommend staying at the Sea View for at least a few nights on your trip to Ireland. The room was nice, except that it was so hot and without air conditioning, it was a bit tough sleeping that night. Since it is such an old building, not everything is perfect. Our bathroom door wouldn't close. There was a nice Preseco party and a discussion of the history of the building, which was fun and interesting. They took pictures of everyone and had them sitting at your table in the dining room. After that, we went to dinner where our party was seated at a large round table which was nice so that we could see and talk to everyone. The menu was interesting and I had been craving chicken and was happy to find it there. They brought all 11 meals at once and presented them. Nice touch! Chicken was tasty. Afterwards, we had drinks at the bar and played some snooker (we kind of made up our own rules). The bartenders were very friendly. We had breakfast thr next morning which was nice.
