I was a last minute add on for one night on my husbands booking. But no hassle at all upon check in. Apparently the old part of the hotel it's simply fabulous. But on this occasion we were in the new part of the hotel. But to be honest, even though the room was a bit small, it was very comfortable. And the bathroom rocked. Fabulous bath and water filled up in quicktime. I love baths and we don't have one at home, so I wallowed and wallowed long. In the bath. Bed was very comfortable and cosy. I slept in, so missed breakfast - I cannot comment on that. Definitely recommended. I look forward to returning to the Hotel Meyrick.

The rooms feature a lovely seating area and period style decor. The pants press was hit for one of the members of my party since they love everything to be freshly pressed. I adore the location as well. Located right in the heart of Galway and walking distance from just about everything (that is unless you are lazy and don't walk much). There is a wonderful breakfast here as well. I would highly recommend the Meyrick to anyone wishing to stay in Galway. On a side note, the main level guest bathroom was slightly creepy; there is wallpaper that features these odd victorian faces that stare at you.

2 stars. Some context first, so you know where this is coming from: this is my third trip to…read moreIreland. We stay three weeks to a month each time, and we've stayed in a lot of hotels across this country. This was the worst hotel experience of all of them -- and I'm writing this so the next family spending their savings on a trip like this can make a better-informed choice. We booked two rooms for four nights during the Arts Festival -- my wife and I in Room 121 on the ground floor (the far corner of the building closest to the Spanish Arch), our adult kids on the third floor. Getting back from the festival around midnight, the moment we passed the second fire door in our corridor -- where the hallway slopes downhill -- the smell of mold and mildew hit. Room 121, at the lowest point of the building, was so bad it made both of us sick to our stomachs with headaches. The room looks lovely in photos. We could not sleep in it. Here's the part that tells you everything: when I went to the front desk, the staff member knew exactly which room I was in before I said the number -- and handed me a diffuser. A diffuser. That's a workaround for a known problem, not a fix for a smell strong enough to make guests ill. The hotel was full for the festival, so there was nowhere to move us. Our kids gave up their room and cancelled the rest of their stay -- at midnight -- so we'd have somewhere to sleep. Their vacation, cut short. In the replacement room, the TV wouldn't respond at all -- couldn't turn it off, couldn't change the channel -- I finally just unplugged it until maintenance came the next day. The Nespresso machine was dead too. And the shower was stocked with two conditioning shampoos while both body wash dispensers were mounted at the tub, unreachable from the shower. Small stuff, but it all points the same direction: nobody is checking the details. We checked out July 19 instead of the 22nd -- I spent my birthday packing bags instead of enjoying Galway -- and we're still waiting on the refund for the unused nights on both rooms. We were told there's never been flooding here. Maybe the building itself hasn't -- but this area was underwater on national news in November 2023, and either way, what we smelled in that corridor needs remediation, not air freshener. Now, the two stars -- and I want to be clear about why. The second star is entirely for the people. Every single staff member was friendly and kind, from the front desk to the gentleman cleaning rooms who helped my wife with her bags on the stairs as we checked out. They comped me a whiskey for the trouble. The rooms are otherwise nice -- clean, big, well done. The A/C actually works, which is a rare find in Ireland and something we Americans appreciate. And as the Irish would say, the water pressure is class -- best shower of our whole trip. But kindness isn't a substitute for maintenance, and "I'm so sorry to hear that" isn't a refund. Friendly doesn't fix mold. Solutions do. Other things to know: the restaurant (The Yard) is gone, though the signs are still up outside. Lobby, bar, reception, and breakfast all share one combined space and desk, and breakfast is mostly grab-and-go burritos with a couple of eggs and rashers -- not the full Irish breakfast every other hotel we've stayed at here offers. Better options nearby: the Salthill Hotel (not far, fantastic, where we moved to) and The Galmont -- we've stayed at both with zero issues, real breakfasts, and staff who treat you like a valued guest. If you do stay here, do not accept a ground-floor room past that second fire door.

Of all the hotels I stayed in Ireland, this was my least favorite. The room, upon first look, was…read morenice and spacious. I liked the wardrobe storage, the desk area, and the additional area for storing luggage. However, there were a few things which made me feel like details were being overlooked and the accommodations were outdated. The real reason I can't justify more than three stars is that housekeeping came into my room when I specifically requested they didn't. I was woken up by knocking on the door and then before I could say anything, they opened the door. I thought this was incredibly strange since I had the do not disturb sign out. Not only that, but you are supposed to request housekeeping with a different sign so why they were coming in at all is confusing to me. I still had the do not disturb sign out the door when I left and upon returning, I noticed some cups had been replaced so they definitely came into the room while I was gone. That didn't make me feel very comfortable. The first towel I went to use had a giant hairball stuck to it. Definitely not mine since I hadn't even used the towels yet. After that, I felt like everything must be dirty. The bathroom also seemed really retro to me and not in a quaint way. The toilet was difficult to flush and the shower pressure wasn't great. Not to mention, the half glass in the shower drove me crazy and no matter how careful I was, the floor would get wet. The rest of the hotel seemed to be falling apart a bit. During my three night stay, the lights of one of the elevators were out the entire time making for some awkward rides with fellow guests. The handle on the front door of the hotel ended up breaking towards the end of the stay as well. Unfortunately, someone got sick on the stairwell and it took the staff until the next morning to adequately clean it up. The location, while fairly central, was a little off the beaten path compared to other lodging options like the Leonardo. I would've much preferred to stay there and will be avoiding Harbour Hotel during future visits to Galway.

Both are managed by the same company, but after staying at each, I'd choose the Hyde without hesitation. Because flight delays shortened our trip, we only spent two nights at The Residence instead of the four we originally booked. The biggest selling point is the location. It's literally at the entrance to Galway's Latin Quarter, making it easy to explore the city's restaurants, pubs, and shops on foot. If location is your top priority, it's hard to beat. The hotel itself is very small, with only about 20 rooms spread across four floors. Our room had updated furnishings, modern bathrooms, and fun artwork that gave it some personality. Like many European hotels, though, the room was tight, especially with three single beds. Unfortunately, the biggest issue for us was the lack of air conditioning. I never noticed that on the website while booking, and after staying at two other Irish hotels with air conditioning, it was an unexpected disappointment. The hotel supplied two fans, but with the windows only opening a few inches, the room stayed warm. Opening the windows wasn't much of a solution because of the late-night street noise from the Latin Quarter. In fact, the hotel even provides earplugs in the room, which tells you this is a common issue. A couple of things to know before you arrive. M. Fitzgerald's, the restaurant attached to the hotel, doesn't serve breakfast, although a Starbucks is directly across Quay Street. Also, you can't drive to the hotel's front door, so first-time visitors may want to plan their arrival in advance. We found Hynes Yard Car Park to be much easier to navigate than the older Spanish Arch Car Park, and the hotel offers discounted parking at both. The most disappointing part of our stay came after we left. I completed the hotel's guest survey, explained my concerns, and requested that someone contact me. Unfortunately, I never received a response. The Residence has an unbeatable location, but between the warm room, street noise, and lack of follow-up after my feedback, it didn't live up to our expectations.

Too small and too hot to be comfortable…read more Our room is too hot sleep in. We complained about how hot the room was but front desk said they only have 2 or 3 rooms with A/C (is that true??). They said to use a supplies fan, so we have the window open with a noisy fan, but it is still very hot and the fan is super noisy. Our room is also incredibly small. We barely fit in here with our luggage. It's really small!! We asked if we could upgrade to a larger room and they said "no"... our room has a "standard layout" (again I am questioning if I am being told the truth). Also, they gave us an accessible room with a bathroom that has no enclosed shower/tub and then claimed that was a standard room for the hotel (once again feeling like I'm being swindled). There is also no sink space or shelf to place toiletries of any kind. We feel very cheated for a room that was much more expensive than the nice hotels we stayed at in Dublin and Killarney. Positives: Location is great and enjoy the attached pub.

We booked a family room and not sure what happened...the pull out couch barely fit our two young children and left zero space in the room. The bathroom was also small and had limited space even for towels, let alone counter space. I booked through Priceline, which I will never do again because our reservation was completely messed up. They didn't have the right number of people or the included breakfast reflected in the hotels reservation system. The front desk staff couldn't have been kinder though and sorted it all out rather quickly. If you're just a solo travel or a couple the rooms would be sufficient and it would probably make for a great home base during your time in Galway.

It is located at a perfect location for walkability - right across the street from the Spanish Arch! We could see it from our window! This, of course, meant we were right at the foot of the Latin Quarter which is filled with noisy tourists and pubs. Our room was nicely fitted with two windows which cut out the noise sufficiently. Check in was a breeze! And our room was big and comfortable. With the change to Leonardo came refurbished rooms so it all felt pretty new. The staff were all friendly and very helpful. Two of the four evenings we were here, they offered late afternoon chocolate chip cookies and prosecco! A nice touch! We only had their breakfast one of the mornings. If you purchase it in advance, the price is reduced by a couple euros. They had standard Irish breakfast buffet offerings and the staff were friendly. I wasn't overly wowed by the breakfast and, since there are so many restaurants and coffee places nearby, I wouldn't recommend it here.

The Bailey's Cheesecake was okay. Not quite my thing, but I ate it because when you are on a vacation and the item is free, you eat it. Free-licious is de-licious is not the way I go about my way of dining, but this one I cannot quite write off just because the price was right. If I had to pay for it I would not get it. A good way to end all good things.
