After visiting several area schools/dojos, I chose the Nashville Shotokan Karate club. I feel that it is important to get a good vibe and connection from the school. My initial thoughts were that, after sitting in on a couple classes, I liked the atmosphere of class and Nataliya Pidkovka sensei's teaching style. Now that I have been attending classes for a couple of months, that initial impression has not changed. I very much like Nataliya Pidkovka sensei's approach. She is technical, expects the content to be learned correctly and is open to questions at any time (unlike some dojos where questions are discouraged or outright not allowed). I look forward to continued training at the Nashville Shotokan Karate club.

What it is is one of the best places in Nashville to seriously study martial arts. All classes are open to Men and Women and children's classes are taught as well. These men asked individuals to train to lead the classes taught at Pepper Boxing while reassuring said individuals that they would be compensated for their time, so long as they did not quit training of their own volition. Three weeks into training, they decided to mention that not all of the individuals who had completed training up to that point would be continuing on as trainers with Pepper Boxing, all while still reassuring the individuals that they would be paid for the time the committed to training. After choosing trainers who would be hired to train at Pepper Boxing, Alexander Kaufmann and Chase Pickett both decided to go against the word they so adamantly stated during several trainings and did not compensate individuals who were not asked to stay with Pepper Boxing as trainers despite the time, energy and money they dedicated to Pepper Boxing with the understanding that they would be paid so long as they did not choose to quit. When I reached out to Alexander Kaufmann and Chase Pickett regarding compensation, Alexander as the owner, did not have enough dignity to respond to my e-mails or text messages. Chase Pickett had enough decency to reply to my e-mails after having to text him, and he blatantly ignored the fact that he personally reassured me of payment to follow Alexander's decision to bring me on as a trainer at Pepper Boxing in Atlanta. Alexander Kaufmann and Chase Pickett are under the impression that the training they provided individuals is valuable enough to take to other organizations without recognizing the fact that neither or them teach anything that could be applied anywhere other than Pepper Boxing. They aren't even teaching their members the PROPER BOXING punches.

Fencing is a wonderful sport and all the nashville clubs create fun and exciting experience for their athletes. However, once you decide to make the transition to the competitive level, only NEFC brings the coaching and competitive fellow athletes to grow those skills. There are competitive epee and foil fencers including nationally ranked youth athletes, division 1 NCAA fencers, and fencers who have earned regional and even national medals. The fencers really push each other under the coach's careful guidance while the parents share the journey of raising young people who learn to excel in competition and in life. Although fencing is still a small sport in nashville, NEFC is the place where the dreams and skills are getting BIG.
