I had my kids in David Deaton Karate for about a year. I honestly don't know enough about dojos…read moreand karate to tell you whether the instruction was any good but the instrutors were all very disciplined but good to the kids. I found that the price was really exorbiant and it seemed to get more expensive the further we went along. The general idea is that the kids learn a kata and some rudimentary moves and then they can move belts for which there is a ceremony and then additional purchases of pads. My main gripes were the prices $125 a month and the pads seemed to run you and extra $100 or so everytime they moved up a belt which at first can be every 4-6 weeks . I probably could have lived with the pricing but my kids were sort of ambivilant to going so it wasn't worth it for me. My other gripe was that there was all this saluting the flag and pomp and circumstance about god and country and supporting troops. It's not that I mind that either but we are studying karate which you know didn't orignate here in America. It just seemed like it was David's politics with some Americanized Brentwood Karate mixxed in. Not my bag.

My daughter earned her black belt at DDK and we have just enrolled my grandson. This is an…read moreexcellent program if you want support for character development, discipline, and physical fitness. Also helps with confidence and the self defense aspect is a plus. But it does require engagement by the student and parents. I have found the instructors to be uniformly excellent. However, as in everything, you will get out of the program what you put in.

We immediately asked to pause our membership until this pandemic subsides, but they will not, and they refuse to issue a refund for our quarantine time. We intended to return once safe, but after their poor handling of this situation, we will be going elsewhere. This is not at all the professional or compassionate local establishment that we expected. We don't want our children learning self control, and understanding from these individuals.

I would give negative 5 stars if I could. My daughter attended a few classes here. Like maybe 4 or…read more5. It just wasn't a good fit for many reasons. Their style isn't as traditional as I'd like it to be. Aside from that, the owner is extremely arrogant. I spent a lot of time on the phone expressing my concerns. This schools style just isn't the right type of Martial Arts for my kid. That's it. The owner must think his school is the best and there's no better school than his. Mind you again, my daughter had not attended very many classes when I realized it wasn't the fit for her. The owner would not let me out of the "contract" which wasn't even explained to me in the first place. Just know when you sign up for this school, you are paying a NON-REFUNDABLE fee of $200 only to be forced into a 6 month contract. I explained why this school wasn't for my daughter. I was fair in my explanation. The owner said he is going to send my account to collections. This just furthers my judgement call to have my daughter go elsewhere. This is who my daughter is supposed to learn discipline from? Structure? Someone who is supposed to set an example. No thank you. Don't waste your time having your child go here. They also draw on your child's uniform with a permanent marker. So unprofessional. The instructor spends half the class as a salesman talking about promotions and other marketing measures to sell things. Your using my daughters class time which isn't much to begin with to sell your ridiculous products. This school is only out to make money. Other schools offer so much more without any ridiculous fees or memberships. Do your research before picking a school for your child. This isn't the one.
