I had my kids in David Deaton Karate for about a year. I honestly don't know enough about dojos…read moreand karate to tell you whether the instruction was any good but the instrutors were all very disciplined but good to the kids. I found that the price was really exorbiant and it seemed to get more expensive the further we went along. The general idea is that the kids learn a kata and some rudimentary moves and then they can move belts for which there is a ceremony and then additional purchases of pads. My main gripes were the prices $125 a month and the pads seemed to run you and extra $100 or so everytime they moved up a belt which at first can be every 4-6 weeks . I probably could have lived with the pricing but my kids were sort of ambivilant to going so it wasn't worth it for me. My other gripe was that there was all this saluting the flag and pomp and circumstance about god and country and supporting troops. It's not that I mind that either but we are studying karate which you know didn't orignate here in America. It just seemed like it was David's politics with some Americanized Brentwood Karate mixxed in. Not my bag.

The Guillemets are down to earth, fun, experienced and extremely adept at teaching karate. We have attended other schools and my daughter has had several problems with them all. one of the main issues was in thinking girls are inferior to boys by the instructors. Other issues include: bad teaching, screaming angrily at children, and holding students back for multiple reasons. Not everyone who knows karate, (even someone with a high degree black belt) can teach karate but the husband and wife instructor combo at New Visions dojo, Chelsie and Ryan, sure know how to TEACH very well. Great family karate school, I HIGHLY recommend over every other place we have tried!

I got my 2nd Dan blackbelt at his school when it was in Brentwood. My oldest son got his 1st Dan blackbelt when he was 12 yo. My younger sons never got their black belts because they were too young, but they got up to brown as far as they could go. I would go back but we live too far away in another state. He has trained many black belts to be all they could be and I have many great memories of the school.

The students are taught by top of the line Instructors, and it is shown by the work that the students performs. Master Regis is a great man. He makes you feel at home with his warmth and sincerity. Training is at times intense, but also practical and educational. Time is taken to develop quality of the various punches, kicks, and stances. Kata training is superb and free sparring is spirited, yet controlled. My fellow classmates are great to work with and everyone is extremely pleasant and respectful. If you are interested in true martial arts training, this is the place!
