I drove by a rental property in High Point and called about it, Jenny Spradley returned my phone…read morecall on Saturday and left a message for call back. I called her back yesterday morning and just wanted some information on the townhome. The townhome was a 2 bedroom for $950 a month. She asked me "what my situation was". I explained I am a Paralegal for a Law Firm, I make $20 an hour working 40 hours a week. I also waitress on the weekends for extra pay. I have two small children, 3&5- boy and girl. Jenny told me that she wouldn't rent to me because my children shouldn't be sharing a bedroom since they are opposite sex. She explained to me that is illegal and children shouldn't be raised like that. Which is complete nonsense and it is not illegal by any means. She also told me that she didn't want to rent to someone that relied on two incomes to make ends meet. I explained to her that I am a single mother of two children, I work two jobs so that we are able to live comfortably and I am able to provide more than just needs for my children. She said "Oh well thanks for explaining that." I shouldn't have had to explain that to her. She asked me if I receive child support, which is really none of her business unless I provide that information for her. She told me she had two other women that qualify that "don't have any baggage". These are single women with no kids and plenty of money. She also told me the first girl that applied qualified but she "felt like something was shady about her and could tell she's just a deadbeat and has kids". Jenny explained to me that this townhome was having new floors in it so basically it was too nice for me and my children. She said she had another unit in Thomasville that was "more out dated and run down, better for my situation". She said her husband built it in 1970 and it's not in the best area. I told her I wasn't interested in moving to Thomasville I was interested in the High Point location. She said she wouldn't consider me for that townhome because it didn't sound like a good fit for me. This conversation was on 2/27/2022 @ 9:39 am and lasted 26 minutes. The telephone number associated with this was (336)906-7860. I have never felt so discriminated in my entire life. I have a good rental history and I made plenty of money to afford this townhome. Although I would never want to actually rent from someone like this woman, I think that she should not be in the business of realty. This woman could have simply told me that I did not qualify. Instead she told me every reason why I wouldn't qualify based on her own discretion. I then called a friend of mine to explain what happened and before I told her who it was she asked me if it was an older woman and if it was Spradley Realty. I said yes! How did you know? She said she did practically the same thing to her two years ago when she was trying to rent a house in High Point.

Do NOT rent this home. They know about it and they just cover it up with paint. Look at the outlet cover in the dining room. It's curled due to the moisture in the wall. I have pictures of what's under the kitchen floor that they knowingly covered up. They told the last tenant to run a dehumidifier 24/7 but that's not treating what's in the walls and under the house. Don't rent this house unless you want to knowingly live in mold. If they were a good landlord they would have treated this between tenants but they haven't all they care about is the $$ undoubtedly.
