This studio is life-changing! If you thought you were too old to start ballet all I can say is....come join us and prove yourself wrong! I began taking classes several years ago when I was north of 40 and only wish I started sooner. I was looking for a way to gain flexibility, improve my posture, learn a technique that had a rich history and ideally combine all of the above with a practice that would bring focus and mental clarity. I had taken yoga but wasn't hooked and considered marital arts but was afraid of getting injured (already having suffered several broken ribs and a chipped a tooth from Kung Fu years earlier). Other techniques, like Pilates, didn't seem to have the rich history I was searching for. Then a friend mentioned she had been taking ballet classes. Voila! I always thought that if one didn't start ballet by age 5, it was too late. So as a middle-aged newbie, I wasn't sure what to expect. I started with the Saturday beginning adult class with Miss Deborah once a week. I highly recommend this particular class for those who have never taken ballet. She teaches the classical Vaganova method and starts at the very beginning going through positions, how to point one's foot and posture. Fast forward many years later, I now take class several times a week, have participated in The Nutcracker performances and even own pointe shoes! Ballet has taught me patience, practice and perseverance. Some days are definitely better than others. It's challenging, it can hurt, but it's so worth it. Looking back on the progress made is so rewarding and the friendships built along the way are an added bonus. Miss Ann brings years of experience as a professional ballet dancer to her studio. Her choreography is brilliant and she excels at providing the most subtle corrections that bring vast improvements. You will learn proper technique no matter what level. I've been taking classes at The Conservatory of Classical Ballet for seven years now. Classes are offered for all ages and experience levels, and every teacher I've had at the studio is warm and welcoming, and will work with your abilities and potential. Miss Ann In particular goes the extra mile in caring about her students, and makes sure nobody gets injured due to wrong technique. She regularly stays after to workshop steps and moves with students who are interested in personal advice to achieve a technique goal. She will push you just the right amount and gives feedback and advise that help you learn the proper technique. She creates beautiful dancers, and encourages everybody to participate in the performance opportunities. The class prices are very reasonable compared to other studios in the area, and you can use a credit for missed classes within 30 days. I've taken classes at several other Bay Area studios, and because of the personal attention to all students, (including adults), this is my favorite. This little neighborhood gem is home to one of the best adult ballet programs. Here are a few reasons why: 1. CCB school teaches strong technique. You will learn the ballet vocabulary, but more importantly, how to execute the movements. I take classes when I travel, and instructors are always surprised when I waddle ungracefully into class in my gym clothes but still know what I'm doing, all thanks to CCB! 2. You can perform if you'd like. I know several adults of all ages who have joined performances and improved a ton afterwards. 3. You progress. Classes are designed to teach you harder steps as you continue. Italian fouettes, beats, double pirouettes, cabrioles, etc., are all on the menu over time. Note that classes do repeat over several weeks to give students time to learn more complicated combos and drill those harder steps. 4. After consistent attendance and improvement, you can start pointe :) Many adults do so, and you'll surprise yourself with how much you can do. 5. The adult community is super sweet. I don't need to see you or know you to say that you are absolutely welcome here! The youth division is equally lovely and welcoming. Don't hesitate to visit CCB for a couple of classes. I highly recommend taking Ms. Ann's incredible beginner classes to start if you can make it on Friday mornings, or Ms. Deborah's beginner classes. Come dance with us anytime :)! read more

I've danced almost my entire life. We won't get into the exact number of years but suffice it to say a good number of those years have been as an adult and at various studios. What impressed me most from my first class at CCB was the level of attention and time for corrections given to ALL students, not just the regulars or the youths. Many studios tend to overlook adults, especially if they haven't danced at that studio for a period of time. The level of care, technique, and knowledge Ms. Ann imparts is evident from the student dancers who are now professional ballerinas to the adults, who started dancing as adults, who are now dancing and performing at intermediate levels and en pointe. Students of all ages are welcoming and welcomed. Boys, girls, women, men...they're all here - from the once a week dancer looking to try something new to the live at the studio, five days a week student. San Leandro doesn't have many dedicated ballet studios. It's pretty lucky to have CCB fill that void and do it so spectacularly! This place is a ripoff. Ms. Anne does not come to classes on time and makes the kids and parents wait outside. On top of this they are very stingy and will take every penny that they can from you. It' not about the kids. It's about the $$$. Ms. Isabel who was in charge of the finance end at the time will do everything she can to make sure you get the least amount of refund if you have to cancel the class. She is rude and defensive and isn't very good at math. Bottom line, San Leandro doesn't have much to offer for dance, but if you decide to go with Conservatory of Classical Ballet, be ready for sub-standard classes and a rip-off finance department. Like some of the other adult students/dancers of CCB, I started ballet when I was well into adulthood. My goal was not to become a professional ballerina (a bit late for that), but to learned something that would balance my life and I would enjoy doing. I chose ballet because of the discipline it requires and the beautiful music that comes with it. I found CCB after taking classes from a couple of other dance schools, and stayed with it for over 20 years. I moved away from the Bay Area, and was sad that I had to leave my instructors and fellow students. But, maybe the only benefit from Covid was that lots of schools were offering remote teaching, and CCB was one of them! I was so happy that I was able to take Zoom classes from 2,500 miles away. It's not perfect, as I wish I could be back in the Studio dancing with the others, but I took advantage of what was available. Ms. Ann has been super nice of having me (and some other remote students) in class. I am so grateful to be able to take classes from CCB. So, if you don't live in the SF Bay Area and would like to try a ballet class, please consider CCB. Although this is a relatively young dance studio, they still have an excellent program. They also offer adult classes at very reasonable rates which are great fun. Adult students range from beginner to professional. Classes are the standard 1.5 hour. Teachers give great corrections, and invite adults to participate in performances. Just moved to Hayward from Mountain View, where I attended Western Ballet religiously. While I miss my friends and the teachers at WB, I'm having a lot of fun at Conservatory of Classical Ballet with Miss Ann (the director / main instructor). read more

This ballet studio has changed my life. I took ballet for 8-10 years when I was a kid, but gave it up in high school after my first teacher moved away. I hadn't found another studio that I loved as much....until now. Miss Ann, the Director of CCB, is an amazing teacher and dancer. She is a perfectionist who will encourage and stretch you to the edge of your comfort zone and beyond. She and the many other talented teachers at the studio help to create dancers from age 3 to adult with impressive technical skills and artistic passion. Her teens are sought after by summer intensive programs, prestigious ballet schools, and professional ballet companies. I have been taking adult classes at CCB for about a year, and the personal attention and quality of corrections given are superior. The classes are usually small, but even when there are lots of students in class, Miss Ann has her eye on every student and she will not let you get away with relaxing your turnout or sloppy foot placement when the combinations are challenging. It is because of her careful critique that I've managed to come so far in just a year of (re)training. I am now completely obsessed, and am guilty of rearranging my work schedule around the CCB schedule. :) A few reasons why I (and all of the other dancers there) love this studio: 1) It is a dedicated ballet studio. All of the teachers teach classical ballet (hence the name...) in a traditional style. That is *not* to say that class is boring...there is so much artistry to be learned in classical choreography. 2) The teachers are passionate about ballet AND teaching. All of the instructors put time and effort into developing their curriculum and helping students' technique. It is a supportive environment. Kids in the student division and company will be expected to work hard, but the quality of their dancing reflects it. Some of the dancers have gone on to professional careers or dance programs in college, but many do it as their hobby...and both paths are supported. 3) Multiple adult classes per week. I started out with Beginning Ballet and I was so excited that there were four classes offered (M, Tu, W, Sa). Many other studios that I checked out only offered 1 or 2, and as I became more and more obsessed with ballet and wanted to take more classes, I had many to choose from here. :) 4) The adult-only classes welcome everyone and students improve with continued attendance. (One of my pet peeves for adult classes is teachers who don't take adults seriously; for example, they don't give corrections if you are doing something wrong that could set you up for an injury or to help you look more graceful, or they push you too quickly through barre without good technique or enough warmup for more vigorous center exercises. This never happens at CCB.) If you are taking class just for exercise, you will still be given corrections to improve and avoid injuries. And if you want to challenge yourself to perform, or dance on pointe, Miss Ann will help you achieve your goals (safely and carefully, of course). The ladies (and gentlemen...men, don't be shy!) in the adult classes are friendly and welcoming. No one is going to make you feel awkward if you can't figure out a combination, instead they'll pull you aside and help you figure out the steps afterwards. If you have never danced before, the beginning teachers will break down the movements for you slowly and will even spend extra time before/after class to answer questions and help you improve. The intermediate classes are obviously more challenging, but we still have a lot of fun. I always leave class exhausted, but with a huge smile on my face. 5) Performance opportunities, even for adults! There is an annual Nutcracker, and adults are always welcome to join, wear pretty dresses or fancy bow ties, and help fill the stage with acting and dancing. After all of the rehearsals, the show looks amazing (thanks to Miss Ann's eagle eye for the details). There are more advanced parts for the adults who have been coming for years. Some of the adult ladies who started dancing as adults have performed solos on pointe in the performances, which I find amazing and inspiring! And men are always needed for partnering and solos. Some general FYIs: When you arrive for your first class, it's not immediately obvious what to do since classes will probably be going on and other parents/students may or may not be in the lobby. For the adult classes, sign in on the class roll sheet and bring cash/check to give to the teacher. If you become obsessed like me, there are options for monthly class cards. Even the drop-in rate is very reasonable and more than worth it for the quality of instruction. For the little ones, email or talk with Miss Ann before enrolling so she can figure out the right class. I started taking the adult beginner's ballet classes a couple weeks ago and I love it. I was so nervous because I have no prior experience, but every time I've been, the class size is 3 or 4 students, and the instructor is very informative and nice. The adult classes are offered at night and in the morning on the weekend. It's a workout for the legs! My only concerns are that there doesn't seem to be any air conditioning and it's sweltering in there! Also, there are no directions as to where to go once you get inside, and there is no one at the desk to tell you what to do. read more

My daughter attended this ballet studio for just under six months. We enrolled here because it was convenient to our home. Unfortunately, our time there was less than pleasant. The teacher for the Wednesday class for girls 5-7 is unwelcoming and snarky. The person who runs the studio is unorganized and extremely subjective to their policies. And their attempt to run a winter production of the Nutcracker is not at all tailored to the younger girls who also perform in the show.
