Based on what they charge, it is an absolute crime that they are in business with their internet service. We pay about $70 monthly and our download speed fluctuates between 1 mbps and 8 mbps on a good day making it impossible to work from home. We checked with Consolidated Communications and they tell us everything is in order and working optimally despite the very inconsistent bandwidth. Useless. Impossible to check email even, because the pages do not open. When called Consolidated always repeats the same untrue excuse: our problem is because too many people are using our wifi. Consolidated, very unfortunate, is the only provider available where we are - off the beaten track in Vermont. When we signed up we agreed to a price that was nearly double the agreed amount when we checked our first bill. When we called to complain they first tried to weasel their way out of our initial agreement, then reluctantly reviewed our bill. Next month, same thing: we were charged double the agreed amount. Sometimes we are disconnected for days. A few times we were late paying our bill and (as if we are an unruly child that needs punishment), they re-connect us real slow... days later. The bill always is the same though. This is against the law. You should not have to pay for a service that isn't provided or witheld. Contact the your Local Attorney General's Office and/or The Federal Trade Commission to file a complaint about the screwy business practices of Consolidated. read more

Horrible connections. Buffering 20-30 times a day. Evening hours you are lucky if you get 3 minutes of internet before the service drops. We are in a valley on Rt 110 in Vermont. I requested a tec come to the house and I have a two week wait. IF THEY CANNOT PROVIDE A DEPENDABLE SERVICE THEN THEY SOULD NOT BE ALLOWED TO OFFER IT IN THIS AREA. What happens when you stay home from work, losing out on $150, just to be home for the CCI repair folks to come? THEY DON'T BOTHER SHOWING UP. So unacceptable. I call in and they say someone could possibly come on another day, but no way am I going to lose out on yet another hundred fifty bucks. I have had no dial tone for a full month. If I am unable to call 911 to summon a fire department, I would definitely hold them responsible for the losses incurred. They also claim that a tech "contacted me" about not being able to come that day. I asked, "exactly what type of communication was this?" because I received nothing whatsoever. They said text. If I could give them negative stars I would. We've been in our home for almost 40 years and our service had steadily gotten worse since consolidated took over. Our phone went out 6 weeks ago and I told them that my mother was 74 and it was vital it work in case of emergency. Guess what, major health emergency and no phone service so I can't communicate with the person who's helping with our house while my mother is in the hospital. I wish I could sue for negligence. I knew internet could be a challenge moving to VT, and as a remote worker it is highest priority. So I called Consolidated Communications a month in advance to make sure I could get adequate service which they said I could, and to make sure the install was scheduled in plenty of time for work. While waiting for them to arrive to install the service ( I was given a window between 8 AM - 5 PM which in itself was a bit ridiculous), I called for an updated ETA around 1:30 PM and was told they are 'out of phone lines' and don't know when they can run more. They left me completely without service and no ETA of when they could provide it, AND didn't even call me to tell me. If I could leave no stars, I would. read more

Don't believe what you hear from Consolidate/Fidium. Consolidated/Fidium pushed me to install fiber internet for me to replace my terrible DSL service. Told me that they would have to cancel my landline to do so, but would show up in a week to install fiber. In preparation for the landline cancellation, I paid hundreds of dollars to my security company to shift from the landline to a cellular system. Then Consolidated didn't show up for the installation, without telling me anything. When I called them, they told me that fiber was not available. Then they shut down my existing internet. I've spent hours dealing with their incompetence as well as hundreds of dollars. I strongly recommend avoiding Consolidated/Fidium if you can. 100% NIGHTMARE. Had a flyer sent to me about CCiTV for $36.99. Installed 5 March 2020. Never worked, always buffering, internet would go out and sometimes phone. Have been a customer with Verizon, who then Fairpoint bought out and then Consolidated. Called over 50 times to customer service, 30 times to tech support and 14 technicians on site. Would always be given an excuse, say they "found the issue and fixed the problem". This went on for 8 months. Problem is there is no other internet provider in the area, so Consolidated had a monopoly on the internet service. Spent over 300 hours on the matter. Come to find out, it was the CCiTV that was making the internet fail. Wish I could give negative stars. I have not seen one positive review for this company and I now understand why. This is unquestionably, without a doubt in my mind, the absolute worst, most horrid and putrid excuse for "internet" that I have ever had to suffer through having. It was previously Fair Point, then they sold out to Consolidated Communications, what a disaster that turned out to be. Fair Point was great with fair pricing, fast and reliable wifi and I never had any issues. Now, as Consolidated, they suck, flat out they just suck. SLOW, UNRELIABLE, AND CRASHES MULTIPLE TIMES FOR NO REASON. In the few months I have stuck with Consolidated, I find the wifi randomly goes down for about 90% of Vermont at a time. And when it somehow manages to work which seems to be a miracle, it is often times slow and you cant run more than one device (my ipad in this case) on 15 MBPS SPEEDS. That's just horrible. Very pricey for such service if you ask me. Needless to say I am looking to switch as they do not care to upgrade their services. read more

Promised by friendly rep that I would hear in 24 hours for repair info, who suggested I follow up in 24 hours. When I called a day and a half later, I spoke to a very rude rep, named Emily located in Chatham, NY, who told me that I was given the wrong information and basically too bad. Expensive and pretty terrible phone and internet service. My favorite experience so far was after paying my bill online, I had my phone turned off for over a week. I called five times and then emailed a letter threatening to get a lawyer -- after which the phone was finally turned on. My father just had a heart operation -- and I have to deal with this cowtown operation. Oh and one Fairpoint customer service representative told me it was my fault the phone was turned off. According to her, Fairpoint "doesn't know" you paid your bill if you pay online. After you pay, she said, you need to call and tell us you paid. Yeah. Thanks for setting me straight.
