Beautiful landscape, no urban sprawl. What you see is 1862.. trees are where trees were and open fields are where they were. I've been to many battlefields and I think this one is where the books don't do the terrain justice.. you really have to see it firsthand. The State and Trust have done a good job preserving the battlefield. If you look, you can see new land that was bought and about to be handed over. Recommend

A visitor center offers a movie on the area which you have to pay for, but it was too nice of a day for me to hang around inside, and even then I got a detailed introduction from the surprisingly numerous staff. The site includes some playground and picnic areas, but is primarily walking trails and historical markers. Some of the markers were a bit beat down, but other than that, it's an interesting and beautiful area.

I'm giving Camp Nelson Rv Park three stars. One star for the friendly staff, one because they…read moreinstalled new washers and dryers and one star for the neat terrain surrounding the park. Other than the things mentioned above this place in quite sad. Most of the RVers here are permanent residents. It's very muddy and most of the rv spots aren't on any type of pad or even gavel. There are many many cats. Mostly ferrel cats but some are pets. We have paw prints all over our vehicles and one of them sprayed our BBQ grill! Yuck!!! There is a small playground that isn't much to speak of. Be careful that you don't step in cat poop! With a little tlc this place could be awesome! Maybe one day they will spruce it up but until then we won't be back.
