It's hard to hate any park. This park is another hit and if you're in Danville, it's a must stop…read more Every time I'm in the area, I always stop here. This park starts off with numerous baseball fields which I assume that little leagues use throughout the summer. Spread out around the park are a few small children's playgrounds. The organized sports and fun for the kids: Check! Near the middle of the park there is this decent sized pond with a fountain. Also ducks! Lots of ducks! Different ducks! Friendly ducks! Did I mention there are ducks? Benches and swings are all around the pond. It's the perfect place to take a daytime date to relax. Date/Nature/Pond: Check! On one side of the park and out of the way you'll find a small skate park. It is tiny and they really should expand it for the skaters in the area. They have more than enough room and it's hard to find great places to skate. Alternative activity space: Check! On the other side is a paved path that circles the park. It's a great path, but I wish it wasn't just a flat and winding path. They should install more trees or other things to admire. This path is surrounded by grass and only grass. I think this park could benefit from more trees, plants, and flowers. There is a gazebo on one side of the park in this area. There is also a dog park tucked away. The only reason this park gets a 4 instead of a 5 is because of wasted space. There's a lot of underutilized space that could be made beautiful here. I'm surprised anytime I talk to someone from the area and they have no idea that the park exists. Everyone from Danville and the surrounding area should use this park! No excuses!

This is a beautiful park located in Danville, KY. There are many facilities, a paved walking trail,…read morerolling hills, and a great fenced in dog park area. I've even looked up in the trees and caught a glimpse of an individual climbing high up in a tree! There is also a beautiful pond with a fountain. If you are in the Danville area, this is a great park to take your family or go for a run on your own.

We were in the area visiting some people, and after lunch we wanted to get outside and do some…read morewalking. There are several nature preserves with hiking trails, all within about 15 minutes drive from where we were. We chose Dupree for our hiking adventure. It isn't particularly well advertised from the road, but Google maps will get you there. There is a small, gravel drive and parking lot. Facilities are limited to a port-a-potty. But it is *literally* the cleanest, well-maintained port-a-potty I have ever seen in my life! There is a sign with a map of the trails. They aren't terribly plentiful, but we took a picture of the map to reference along our way and we were glad to have it. The trails are clear and very well marked. The landscape is absolutely gorgeous! All around you are rolling hills, fields, crazy-looking trees and the Kentucky River. The main trail (the blue markers) take you to the banks of the river. The map mentions something about a boat dock...if there ever was one, it isn't there now. But the view is still pretty nice. Along the way, there are some picnic tables here and there, as well as a couple bench set ups, where it looks like a class field trip could stop for a lesson. The cliff trail (listed difficult on the map) is not as hard as one might think, but it IS a bit of a climb. The Overlook trail is nice, high up on the ridge. But there isn't much look from the overlook. In all, Dupree Nature Preserve is a beautiful, well-maintained place to hike and enjoy Kentucky nature.

I lovee love The Dupree! Hiking paths on the Kentucky River! What more can you ask for....read more

Another reviewer mentioned the directions taking you somewhere completely different. When using Google, it definitely took us to some "6 family neighborhood-Your type don't come 'round here often" place down the road before routing us back out to the highway and down to the parking area. I was actually surprised! There aren't many options in the area. There are light places to exercise in the area (Danville/Lexington) but nothing really like this that I've found. To your east, you have Red River Gorge. South - Cumberland and the rest of Daniel Boone. West - Mammoth Cave. So usually if you want any type of forest terrain, you have to travel. The parking is limited but there is a grassy area where I'm sure people with big trucks park. It was a Friday so we didn't have an issue finding a spot. The trail is okay. If you go counter clockwise, the trail does put some climb in front of you but it's nothing crazy. If you'd rather this trail be a little less strenuous, go clockwise. There are a few off shoot trails that take you out to overlooks. There's not a ton to see at those overlooks but you can watch traffic go by on the highway in the distance or overlook into the campground nearby. I'm not sure if I'd go out of my way to visit this trail but if you're in the area, definitely stop by and check it out. We did run into a deer, plenty of bugs and quite a few butterflies along the way. There was an orange-yellow butterfly that I tried to snap a picture of but he flew away. Fine... Mr. Butterfly!

The hiking is what I would consider to be moderate. Especially the lower palisades trail. The way we went, I felt like we climbed 100 stairs and went straight up. It would have been much easier to go down them. There are 3 trails that all link together. They are very well marked and the trails are well maintained. There are no facilities or picnic tables. We had a beautiful day and I would come back again.
