This park starts off with numerous baseball fields which I assume that little leagues use throughout the summer. Spread out around the park are a few small children's playgrounds. The organized sports and fun for the kids: Check! Near the middle of the park there is this decent sized pond with a fountain. Also ducks! Lots of ducks! Different ducks! Friendly ducks! Did I mention there are ducks? Benches and swings are all around the pond. It's the perfect place to take a daytime date to relax. Date/Nature/Pond: Check! On one side of the park and out of the way you'll find a small skate park. It is tiny and they really should expand it for the skaters in the area. They have more than enough room and it's hard to find great places to skate. Alternative activity space: Check! On the other side is a paved path that circles the park. It's a great path, but I wish it wasn't just a flat and winding path. They should install more trees or other things to admire. This path is surrounded by grass and only grass. I think this park could benefit from more trees, plants, and flowers. There is a gazebo on one side of the park in this area. There is also a dog park tucked away. The only reason this park gets a 4 instead of a 5 is because of wasted space. There's a lot of underutilized space that could be made beautiful here. I'm surprised anytime I talk to someone from the area and they have no idea that the park exists. Everyone from Danville and the surrounding area should use this park! No excuses!

Seeing High Bridge has been on my local bucket list for YEARS, and here's why: I know a couple…read morewhose wedding reception was there, I know a couple who got engaged there, and I know someone with a TATTOO of High Bridge! So I wanted to know what the big deal was. Surely there's more significance than their crisp and refreshing drinking water? After visiting I'm not so sure, BUT it is a historically significant and fascinating bridge, to be sure. The grounds have a few picnic areas, as well as an old (but renovated) pavilion and restroom facilities. There is an overlook where you can walk out and get a spectacular view of the bridge and the Palisades, and read up on the history of the structure. The grounds also house a barge (?) and a caboose. It's interesting to see, and I suppose if you're a bridge or train enthusiast it might be worth a special trip, but honestly, the drive to and from the park was way more scenic than the park itself.

There are several nature preserves with hiking trails, all within about 15 minutes drive from where we were. We chose Dupree for our hiking adventure. It isn't particularly well advertised from the road, but Google maps will get you there. There is a small, gravel drive and parking lot. Facilities are limited to a port-a-potty. But it is *literally* the cleanest, well-maintained port-a-potty I have ever seen in my life! There is a sign with a map of the trails. They aren't terribly plentiful, but we took a picture of the map to reference along our way and we were glad to have it. The trails are clear and very well marked. The landscape is absolutely gorgeous! All around you are rolling hills, fields, crazy-looking trees and the Kentucky River. The main trail (the blue markers) take you to the banks of the river. The map mentions something about a boat dock...if there ever was one, it isn't there now. But the view is still pretty nice. Along the way, there are some picnic tables here and there, as well as a couple bench set ups, where it looks like a class field trip could stop for a lesson. The cliff trail (listed difficult on the map) is not as hard as one might think, but it IS a bit of a climb.The Overlook trail is nice, high up on the ridge. But there isn't much look from the overlook. In all, Dupree Nature Preserve is a beautiful, well-maintained place to hike and enjoy Kentucky nature.

Beautiful landscape, no urban sprawl. What you see is 1862.. trees are where trees were and open fields are where they were. I've been to many battlefields and I think this one is where the books don't do the terrain justice.. you really have to see it firsthand. The State and Trust have done a good job preserving the battlefield. If you look, you can see new land that was bought and about to be handed over. Recommend

A visitor center offers a movie on the area which you have to pay for, but it was too nice of a day for me to hang around inside, and even then I got a detailed introduction from the surprisingly numerous staff. The site includes some playground and picnic areas, but is primarily walking trails and historical markers. Some of the markers were a bit beat down, but other than that, it's an interesting and beautiful area.

It has a variety of interesting reconstructed historical buildings surrounded by rather majestic trees. There are bathroom facilities and picnic tables, and a Saturday farmer's market in season, though it was small and didn't do a ton for me. As a historical site, it offers some interesting material and there's plenty of free parking nearby, and it's easy to walk around to some of the other notable things in town.

They have a nice slide and play area for the younger kids. Only reason it's lacking a star is it could be a little bigger since it's the only one in the immediate area, well until the one in Frankfort was built recently. They also have concessions but haven't checked those out so can't comment on price or quality of food there.
