If you're resourceful and don't mind getting your hands dirty on a DIY home renovation project, come here. Things are second hand. It's so fun to see what antique and modern items get donated here. We bought a new fridge for $1000, a black electric stove/oven for $250, a bucket of primer, a six piece kitchen cabinet set that looked medieval for $245. I purchased a bunch of gold phantom of the opera esque light fixtures for $10 to $25 a piece. All in all, it's fun to get lost here. Construction Junction is one of my favorite places to window shop. Haha. So far we've purchased four doors here! If you're looking for something specific, you can browse on their website before heading over. They sell furniture, trims, light fixtures, tiles, etc at a fraction of the cost new. It's also fun to resuse/upcyble pieces like turning shutter blinds into flower boxes. The possibilities are endless, and I'm always inspired when I come here! This place is just the best of all time. We have a small house and yet we come here all the time hoping to find a hidden gem. The things we have bought from here, some knobs, tile, a mirror, 2 dining chairs are absolutely wonderful and have elevated the look of our interior! Even if you're not in the market to buy, this is a great place to window shop and admire some awesome reclaimed art sculptures. My husband and I find ourselves trying to make up projects just so we can go and see what they have. This is also a great destination to take out of town visitors! If you've got that talent to create something out of the unexpected, then you HAVE to stop here. I was looking for something unusual to use in my apartment for storage. I had stopped at several big box stores around the city before here and left each one of them in disappointment. I must admit, driving to this place I was a little skeptical. I pulled in and honestly thought that Yelp directed me to a warehouse. But I did not let that deter me from venturing out of my car and into the building. Once you walk inside it is like walking into someone's garage that you just want to rummage through. You know what I mean, you walk in and see all this dingy looking stuff that you see potential in. You want to take it home with you. sometimes you want to polish it up and make it look new, other times you want to let it be and let that distressed look shine through. I easily spent a hour in here just browsing the shelves. I saw potential in a lot of the items I saw lining their shelves. And I took a few items home with me. When I reached the register I was truly floored by the price. When I say that, it's because it was so low. I was expecting to pay more, but I definitely came out of there with more money in my pocket than I needed to, but that is one sure fired way to make sure that a person returns to your establishment. read more

Went too Construction Junction for the for the first time last week. It is a huge warehouse for all things for your house. If you are looking for something to match your 80-100 year old house there is a shot that they will have it. They have old door hardware toilets doors oak flooring and so much more. a lot of time it is hit and miss they say as they get new stuff in all the time. I was looking for an old door swinging door hinge. They did not have but they said they do get them from time to time. I will definitely be going back there again. Construction Junction is a not for profit organization that does really good things for the community. If you have things you do not need anymore you can donate them to Construction Junction. We always find it worth our time and money to check out what inventory they have here before spending top dollar at one of the big box stores!!! The staff is very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable regarding different types of home projects. It really does make more sense to recycle building materials and home furnishings. The quality of materials and how well things were constructed 50+ years ago compared to things today is astonishing. Fascinating to browse the aisles. Construction Junction is a non-profit that recycles building materials. They have doorknobs, windows, doors, furniture, cabinets, even the kitchen sinks! Plan to get lost in the trash and treasure. The merchandise changes daily as new items are processed. Prices vary, I've seen some fabulous deals. This place is especially for you if you are a creative remodeler and enjoy antiques. There are sometimes unusual objects, such as church pews, it's hit and miss. Hipster items abound, such as school lockers. Enjoy looking around, the space is huge. Also consider attending their fabulously successful fundraiser, the Big Pour, however the tickets sell out quickly. read more

The most frustrating experience attempting to donate items. Last Friday, I called and left a voicemail for items to donate. Still waiting on a return call. Tuesday called again to be told to send pictures, Sent pictures within 15 minutes and still waiting on a response. With no response called on Friday to be told that since everything was sitting outside for the week and they would not take all items, I needed to drop off. I've seen massive ( M A S S I V E ) solid doors, row after row of church pews and slate chalkboards. There is a door hardware section - for any missing part to your vintage knob quandary. Looking for a high volume of industrial colored (browns, tans, greens, blues) paint? Yep, they've got it! Need a replacement window? - could be a fit @ CJ. Looking for basement or garage cabinets? Always a wide selection. Friend goes for the huge, ornate crown molding. He makes the most amazing picture frames. He also restored a wood mantel and it's lovely I love a good, solid wood door and found a forgotten beauty that was begging to shed the gazillion coats of paint and be a focal point of my house. And it was perfect to cut in a nice little cat door, since Sarah Kitty is very put off by ANY closed door and will work for however long it takes to coax it open... This place is always hit or miss, but I love it! It can be full of great finds or even a great place to donate to. They have a wide selection of old doors and windows that always seem to be lined up in the hallways. There is a back room that seems to always have every part of an old school. At the opposite end, all sorts of bobbles and finds. Behind the counter you can find antique doorknobs and such. On one visit there was a giant box of leftover tiles, which were all beautiful that I turned into accent coasters! Not only does this place have a lot to offer, but it also encourages recycling with its big bins in the parking lot. read more

Wow so much furniture and doors and random odds and ends! My roommate and I needed a side table/ coffee table so we decided to check it out. They had a ton of really large pieces of furniture but not as many small pieces. Even so, we were able to find a few contenders for our table and ended up getting g one in near new condition for $15. The real deals were on the super big pieces that I'm sure they just wanted moved out and pieces with some damage. There was a very tempting chair for $7.50 that just needed reupholstered and a wooden kitchen table for $5 that just needed sanded and restained. Was turned into this place by a Coworker of my sisters and so today we made the drive from Warren, Ohio to check it out. This place is a DIY and repurposing type persons dream come true! From odds and ends tile to cabinets, hardware and more this place just has soooo much! You truly need to give yourself time to look around when you go as they have so much. And if you like Pinterest like I do... Give yourself even more time! For today's adventure we had a specific task so we had to be what we call quick and dirty! No time for strolling and browsing. We got in, went to our specific area and set to work scavenging. We got a bathroom vanity that only needs a little work for 30!!! Once we get it home and paint it, it will look great! It was just what we came for and at an Amazing price! We almost had a huge slab of Quartz but it would not fit in the van-- not for lack of the gentleman trying though! They gave it a very a valiant effort trying to make it work for us. And I truly can tell you that I have never seen anyone work so hard to make something fit. Gerant and Bennet you guys are the bomb! This the best place for everything. Pure and simple. Furnished my entire shop for dirt cheap and I have furniture that will last forever.

We ended up here just to look around and it was so much fun! How awesome a resource this would be if you are working on a home improvement project. Everything is very well organized and displayed. There is just so much to look at - because of this I believe it would be best to come in with a mission - i.e. I need a new sink for my kitchen. If you go in just to look it could get quite overwhelming! We were with friends who were looking for a railing for their home and although they didn't find anything I know they'll go back again soon! As a DIY'er - this place is a sanctuary. I've been here quite a few times during the weekends .. if not to buy .. just to browse around. This place is huge and you can pretty much find anything. If you can't find something you're looking for - you can simply ask one of the CJ personnel making rounds to make sure you've found what you're looking for. I was looking for a bi fold door few weeks ago and found exactly what I was looking for less than $15. - you can find doors as low as $5 and I'm not talking dirty stained or broken door. Besides used goods - there are few new "recycled" items including plastic corrugated roof panels and paints for super low prices. Also, if you're remodeling your house and need to throw those old materials - they have a number of recycle bin where you can simply drop it off. read more

Wow, well deserved 5 stars. I stopped in today to window shop a door (lol) I needed one for my bedroom and thought this would be the perfect spot after reading reviews. After entering, I realized how awesome it was here! Tons of room doors not to mention front doors, storm doors etc. I also seen a lot of toilets, sink fixtures, cabinets, dressers and so many lighting fixtures including beautiful chandeliers. I have no idea where all of this stuff would've ended if it wasn't for here, but I'm so glad the we have a store like this in the city! I'm excited to bring my fiance here and pick out a door. Out storm door could be replaced too. Everything here was soooooooo reasonably priced! Doors under $25, light fixtures for $5. Love it! read more

Construction Junction is an incredible experience! Just drive a block off Penn Ave in Point Breeze, pull into a fenced-in parking lot, and head toward a little door attached to a deserted-looking warehouse. The little door opens into an old, dusty space filled with used home items. Don't forget to check out the crazy pieces of artwork suspended from the ceiling as you walk through! The warehouse has a range of items from treasures to no-one-would-ever-buy-this pieces. Today I saw: -fabulous 1960s desks -old scratched and/or locked filing cabinets -retail display cases -disassembled kitchen cabinets and countertops -ancient (and very intriguing) appliances -hundreds of toilets and bathroom sinks -random bathroom and kitchen tiles -carpet remnants -lots and lots of random chairs -light fixtures varying in quality from brilliant chandeliers to barely-operational The list just goes on and on and on. Take the oddness of this list and multiply it by 3... then you're getting close to imagining what Construction Junction is like. Make sure to enter this store with zero expectations, no particular items to buy, and an empty home. Sadly, my home is filled (though I really wanted that 1960s desk...), and I had an item to buy (a filing cabinet). We left empty handed and drove straight to Office Depot, where I purchased a $90 (vs $25 here) filing cabinet that was not locked, had smooth-running drawers, and is not scratched up. Even though I didn't find what I needed today, I cannot wait to return here in the future. read more

I have been going to CJ since it opened. I try to go once a week. I have received some good deals there, but in the past couple years, the prices seem to be higher than they should be for used / overstock items. I find myself buying less items than I used to. I think if the prices were more reasonable, they would sell more. A new "reuse" store has opened in the area nearby. They have more reasonble prices and thier building is heated. read more

Construction Junction is a gem. Find gently and not so gently used furniture, building supplies, lighting, and all sorts of other stuff. The warehouse is huge, and if you look, there are some seriously cool treasures here. A giant(I'm talking probably 12' wide) chandelier, a wood-burning stove, 27 tons of sand stone in the parking lot. This is a great place to get cheap building supplies and help out the environment by recycling. That isn't the best part, though(Well it might be, depending on what you're here for). Construction junction is also home to many other awesome things. Most notably, the space upstairs is aptly named The Space Upstairs - enter from the side into the world of the modern improv dance troupe The Pillow Project( http://www.pillowproject.org/ ). Also, at night this is the location of Pittsburgh's FreeRide ( http://freeridepgh.org/ ) program - a bike information and repair program which encourages people to learn how to fix old bikes to make them new, even offering people a free bike to fix up if they volunteer a certain number of hours. It's also the home of the Steel City Big Pour, a local beer tasting event, and probably a lot more that I don't even know about. What a cool place! Their mission states "At Construction Junction our mission is to support and promote conservation through the reuse of building materials. That's what excites us, and we're always trying to come up with ways to do more reuse." If you are renovating your house or want to undertake a cool up-cycle or furniture project, this is the place to go! You'll find all kinds of great furniture, construction materials, appliances, tools, lights, plumbing, tiles, etc. They vary in price and quality, so be prepared to search a little bit if you have something specific in mind. Make sure you have measurements in mind before you go so you can focus your search. It can be a little overwhelming if you don't know exactly what you're looking for, but I had a great time perusing all of the aisles. It's a pretty big place with impressive inventory that changes often, so it's fun to visit again and again. read more

Came here last month after a guy at my local Habitat For Humanity Restore recommended Construction Junction for doors (as my local HFHR doesn't have a lot of doors). To begin, they have A LOT of doors. Some were relatively expensive (some were $35.00 plus 20% or 25% off) and some were AMAZINGLY cheap (I seriously bought some for $2.50 each). It sure beats paying $80 at a large home improvement store for a door frame and weak fiberglass door that a tenant can punch and break. Now, if a tenant punches one of the wood doors I bought at CJ he'll be crying all the way to his mama's house! I also bought some random wood trim here - it ranges in price from cheap (.50) to not-so-cheap - I only bought the cheap stuff. They also have some beautiful, beautiful vintage light globes/light shade fixtures for $1.00 each. I bought every single one that was awesome-looking. A few were amazing! What else? I bought a few kitchen counter tops (with storage/a drawer) because my duplex lacks counter space. The price was right. I also bought some vintage door knobs - they range from $5 to $50+ for the nicer ones. I bought the cheaper ones as I needed one and they're tough to find. This place is awesome. It's more than two hours away from me but it was worth the trip as I was going to Pittsburgh to buy a coin-operated washer and dryer. read more

Really enjoyed my first visit to this place. Picked up an adjustable window screen for $1! Sweet. I didn't realize furniture was also sold there. Some of the stuff was super cool! You can pretty much furnish an entire home there, without doing a lick of improvement to any of the furniture (that's dependent on your taste and style, of course). Most of the other stuff I expected to be there - tools, doors, sinks, windows, baseboards, etc. Everything was very well organized, which is something you don't always find at places like this. A great place all around whether you are looking to donate or buy something. If you are looking for an old door, tile or quirky part for a home project this is the place to go. I recently bought a new vanity and was able to donate the cabinet portion (do check the website for specific requirements on donations). They make it easy as you back your car up to the large warehouse doors and a helpful worker will unload. Don't forget your receipt for tax time! I live 4 blocks away and often go to drop off recycling another great benefit of this place. They have large bins for many different recycling options from card board boxes to plastic. Also this place is nonprofit and they have an amazing fundraiser every year in September called the Big Pour. $75 ticket gets you all the beer and food you could want for 3 hours. I have spent many hours wandering through Construction Junction. It's the type of place that you have to keep coming back to because you never know when you might find some treasure. They specialize in building surplus and reclaimed materials, so they have everything from an entire back wall full of old doors to full kitchens and a dozen toilets in different colors. It's a great place to check out if you are remodeling your house or if you're interested in finding something funky you'd never be able to find anywhere else. The staff here is also super helpful and there will always be someone around to help you get your new purchase out to your car. CJ is also home to one of Pittsburgh's recycling drop off centers, so you can come here to sort out your commingled recyclables and then go shopping for a new mantle or some headless manequins. After weeks of oogling over the beautiful items posted on the facebook, I just HAD to come in and check it out for myself! I love to DIY and this is definitely the place for me. I almost felt like I was in a dream. Sinks and cabinets and tiles and chairs and just whatever you could ever hope for! I ended up getting 3 chairs for an upholstering project. They don't carry fabric, but pointed me in the direction of a craft&DIY store around the corner. Everything is so neat and organized, I don't know how they do it. If you are like Susan W and expect a clean thrift store with slightly used items, don't go. If you are anyone else, go. I picked up some 3" oak flooring pieces (30-40 of them) to patch a hole in my daughter's floor. The contractor that did the work liked the fact that they were already stained so that once he fit them into place they would sand down like the rest of the floor....and they did and look great. I'll be heading there soon to get an old door for my old house. If you have any artistic ability, it contains a treasure trove of items that can be repurposed. read more

I've bought so many things from Construction Junction over the years at great prices (which they should be, it's USED, RECYCLED items). But the last few times I have gone have been disappointing.
