I tried to board my dogs for 5 days in August 2025 and was told that they are no longer boarding dogs 12 years and older. This policy isn't located anywhere on their website. I honestly feel and believe that they are discriminating against myself and my dogs because they recently stayed for 2 weeks in July 2025 with no issues other than having to put padding on the walls due one of my dogs being blind. I have spent literally thousands of dollars here and have been a loyal respectful customer for years. BEWARE IF YOU ARE TRYING TO ESTABLISH CARE FOR YOUR DOGS WHILE OUT OF TOWN DO NOT USE THEM. THEY MAKE THEIR OWN RULES AND POLICIES AND THEY ARE DIFFERENT FOR EVERY CUSTOMER/DOG.

There are limited amount of places who will take a non neutered male and I am so glad that this place is one of them. Their boarding process is easy as a new client. Fill out some forms and have your pet's medical records on your phone or documented. CON: THEY DO NOT ALLOW FOR EXTENDED STAYS. I want to leave my pile of fur and claws there for a month, visiting every two weeks and the representative stated that "The best you could do is leave him for two weeks and then take him for two days and then bring him back for another two weeks." Suggestion: I wish they would allow vets to fax over or email over pet medical records. I went to actually check this place out today in person and it seems like there is a lot going on. It definitely feels like it is in a rural part of Lexington, if that makes sense. I do not like the back roads I have to take to get here. Tates Creek also bisects the road to this location, but it is down like two lanes (one coming and one going).

The staff was so friendly and of course Shadow was his charming self until it came to the exam lol. They were gentle with him and gave him plenty of treats afterwards . His Doctor was friendly and very enthusiastic about Shadow being in such good shape . He has nice teeth , clean ears, clear lungs . Knowing all of this made me relax more. He got a clean bill of health with the exception that he's FIV positive. Shadow is the only cat in our house and he's strictly a indoor cat. Even with that he can and will live a full life . One of the ladies did agree with me that he looks like he's part Russian Blue. In terms of cost the initial exam was free because we adopted him from LHS . I did pay for some additional testing and I think it was a fair price . Shadow does have pet insurance for those just in case moments hopefully they'll be none of those. Shadow will continue to to there for check ups and future shots .

We agreed that this dog, Holly, was perfect for my needs. He asked me to send him an email outlining what I wanted as for as training. I did that right away. He sent me a current video and some pictures. I was so excited to have found this dog! Then, Tommy stopped all communication. He does not answer my texts, my emails, or my phone calls. I realize he may have sold her to another person who was in his local area, or that anything could have happened, BUT I begged him to just tell me why I was not hearing from him. It has been 4 weeks and still nothing. My best guess is he sold her to someone who wanted to do their own training, faster sale, faster money in his pocket. But, I really do not know, I can only guess. Holly is still advertised on site his web but he told me he was not going to ever list a dog as sold because sometimes the dogs get returned and he has a harder time reselling them when he posts them as sold. Whatever the reason, Tommy should have told me something, anything. He did mention he had been partners with Protection Dog Sales in KY but they had a falling out. I also had a problem with that guy too. I am a fairly normal person, I am not unrealistic about what to expect for over $20,000.00! IMO, these dog sellers are in it for a fast buck with no regard for the dogs or the people they do business with.

Prior to any daycare or overnight stays, the staff does require a meet & greet. This costs $30 I believe and is used as a reference for your dog's friendliness, social skills, and overall behavior. They use this assessment to see which room to place them in. Each room has a camera set up for you to keep a close eye on your pup. I love this as you can get a true idea of if they like Dogtopia and also for your own peace of mind. The staff has always been friendly and our girl is always so happy to see them. The location is also perfect for us as we live near the mall. However, the location also poses a challenge as there is very little outdoor area for dogs to play and do their business. I say this because our girl did #2 inside, which she never does. My main issue with Dogtopia is the price. It seems to be $10 - $20 (or more) above other boarding places in Lexington. It poses questions as other boarding facilities offer more space and more amenities. I also think there should be a tad more transparency on what your pup goes through during overnight stays. What time are they put in their kennels, when are they let out, etc.

Shih-Tzu, and we had to do something with her while we went to the track. I found Dogtopia on the internet and it sounded ideal for keeping her for the day. I set a time for a meet and greet which was scheduled the day of boarding. We arrived and filled out paperwork. We noticed a large room with maybe 30 dogs of all different breeds and sizes. We were told this was not normal as they usually separate large and small dogs. Anyway, they asked us to sit for a few minutes while they judged how our dog would fit in. We were informed our dog failed their test and they would not be able to keep her. We were told our dog actually bit (nipped) the employee and did not interact well with the other dogs. Our Shih-Tzu does suffer from anxiety, and she does get aggressive when frightened. In that environment, there is no doubt she would be scared. I don't doubt anything the employee said but we told him she was crate trained and I noticed two small dogs in crates. It blows my mind while they didn't keep her in the crate for the 6-7 hours they kept her. Needless to say, we did not get to Keeneland and headed back to South Carolina a day early. We did not get a chance to comment on the care at Dogtopia. Please be aware if you decide to use their services, there is a Pass/Fail test as part of the meet and greet. In addition, we used the services of a doggie daycare in Myrtle Beach, SC when our dog was several months old. What we observed at Dogtopia did not measure up to the standards of the Myrtle Beach facility.

We immediately gave him a bath and applied tick and flea medication we rushed out and bought and let him just rest while my son cried thinking his dog was sick or not going to be okay. He was the opposite of his normal self when we picked him up. Mac is a very happy, healthy, loving, and energetic 1 1/2 year old pup who is full of love and life. This was after we had the worst day traveling back from Florida and were told we had until 8:30 pm to grab him when we got back which we have text messages from her employee stating that and when we arrived to get him no one was onsite and the dogs were just howling and crying. It took numerous texts and calls to finally get some girl and her boyfriend to arrive and give us our Mac. I had done a lot of research and had a 40 min call with Christine months before boarding Mac there and we text daily while gone on our trip. She knew this was our and his first time being away from each other and him being boarded and to get my dog back in this condition and he isn't acting like himself at all is just devastating. The first trainer I hired unknowingly made the situation worse and I despaired of ever being able to help this girl. I found Lexington Dog Trainer, finally, and was ecstatic when she called me back and told me she has 40 years of experience working with dogs with behavioral issues. I felt hope for the first time for this pup. 5 weeks later my lil girl is finally able to see Lin's training dogs model not only how to follow her instruction, but also how to properly interact with other dogs. In time she will also learn better social behavior with people, as she watch how Carlie stood still and let people pat her. For my pup, this behavioral training is literally saving her life. When a dog is abused they carry a paralyzing fear inside their mind that if left alone lon enough it will destroy every chance for that dog to stay in a loving home. My pup started growing more fearful and aggressive that it was coming down to an inevitable euthanasia. I am beyond thankful to Lin and feel that she is an angel sent by God to help this poor girl to have a second chance at life!
