I've been going to Contact for several years now and this review is past due. I've looked around at a few gyms during that time and decided that Contact was well worth it. If you were to look at yoga studios in town, for the same price you will not only get a yoga studio, but a fitness facility and rock climbing! They also have free classes to members like a fitness class and other helpful classes. My favorite part about this gym is the vibe. Very friendly staff, management and people at the gym. They have a friendly atmosphere and so many people are willing to connect and be helpful for new people or people wanting to climb with someone. You won't find any "gym bro" type people. They are constantly changing climbing routes, so you will never get bored! I also appreciate they don't have hidden fees or contracts. If you want to pause your membership at anytime you can (for a nominal fee) as this avoids the signup fee. Definitely recommend! read more

Affordable with very friendly atmosphere-staff are easy to talk to! Building is spacious with lots of climbing options even with a lot of people there-also has some gym equipment available for use. Seems to have many summer camp groups running for youth-when i did a climbing camp years ago it wasn't very social so i would have loved an environment like this! read more

Since we were unable to obtain tickets to Zion, we came upon Contact Climbing Gym while searching for other ways to spend our last day here in Southern Utah. It has been months since I've had the opportunity to climb, and I definitely felt it on the wall today. Everything was hard! I wish we caught the name of the staff member who helped us because she was fantastic! As she was checking us off for top rope, she immediately recognized that one of us was experienced while the other was not, and she offered some gratuitous and helpful advice to my partner. She also gave me some great recommendations on local outdoor spots to check out. Thank you! In terms of the climbing, this place is solid. There are top rope, lead, bouldering, and a training area. The setting was just right, and everything is still clean and new. One complaint that my partner had was the difficulty with belaying with the large-diameter static rope, but I found this to be pretty standard in gyms for longevity. Aside from the slab wall, you may need to put a little extra "oomph" in your belay on top rope. I didn't get to lead, as my partner has no experience in this, but watching some of the other climbers, the routes looked to flow well. We came on a weekday afternoon, and it was nearly empty! However, we were told that a few weeks ago, people had to be turned away because it was jam packed after the snow. I can certainly see this being a very busy gym. If I lived in St. George, then I'd definitely have a membership here. The pricing is excellent, and this gym has a lot to offer, including yoga and a fitness area. Even today, I saw a number of people just sitting on their computers, probably doing work with the free wifi. Furthermore, the locker rooms are clean, and they offer quality feminine products at no charge! If you're in the area, come get some fun and challenging climbs in at Contact! read more

In A Nutshell: -Contact Climbing Gym is a great place to learn how to climb or to continue your current training. -I received excellent professional instruction on the basics of knots, climbing and belaying. -I love the abundance of various climbing wall levels 5.7 to 5.12+ -The facility is very spacious w/ short and high walls for climbing and bouldering. -There is also a yoga classroom which we used to do a session to stretch out after climbing. -You can also rent shoes, harnesses and chalk bags. Excellent gym. I plan on stopping by every time I am in town. The price is fair, facility is beautiful, and the staff is really cool. I did about 45 minutes of bouldering and a little weight lifting. It was all really cool. I was fighting a bit of a finger injury so I went light but the routes felt challenging and well ranked. Plus it was extremely easy to figure out what went where. If you like climbing, yoga, or weight lifting this place is for you for sure. read more

We visited from out of town and hit up a yoga class on a Saturday morning. The teacher was amazing. I've been doing yoga for 20+ years and she had me twisting & vinyasa-ing in ways I have never done before. Great environment & atmosphere. The rock climbing gym looked amazing. Lovely gym! Excellent accommodations and features. Pros: - each bathroom has 1 private shower with towels, body wash, and feminine products available - family/gender neutral bathroom with accessible shower is another option - fun bouldering problems - very tall climbing walls, not terribly many top rope climbs (they grade a little soft but the problems are fun and the holds were grippy) - friendly staff (shoutout to Reid!) that make sure you know all the in's and out's of their facility. They are big on safety. - has yoga studio and upstairs gym facility as well - extremely family friendly with couches and other areas for non-climbers to sit and watch - Nixon, the resident crag dog, added some comedic relief and loved his furry presence! We went in New Year's Day and there were a lot of families there - love to see the encouragement of young climbers! I have climbed here quite a few times over the past few years since Contact opened their doors. The St. George area has an incredible amount of amazing outdoor climbing. As a traveling climber it is always ideal to have a quality climbing gym as a home base - training days, active rest days, a place to meet the local community, and somewhere to retreat to if the weather just doesn't cooperate for outdoor climbing. I was thrilled to see a modern and well run facility come to St. George, a location I frequent regularly for outdoor climbing. Shortly after Contact opened I had the chance to meet the some of the staff including the managers and routesetters as I happened upon a group of them bouldering at Moe's. Contact had managed to secure a talented and experienced cohort of climbing industry folks. I was impressed to see what an amazing offering had come to St. George, which is fairly insular in my experience On my last visit just recently it took almost no time to realize that something had changed. First and foremost the routesetting team has completely changed over, and it shows. What was formerly a creative offering is now bland and uninteresting. It seems that management has changed as well, and it took only a little bit of prodding and a few questions asked to find out it had not been a smooth transition or one that was seen as best for the local community. It sounds like the owners have their heads up their asses. The original Contact was probably too good to be true. It now seems destined to be St. George-d. The bland makeover is well underway and I will resume my climbing visits with outdoor climbing only. read more

Loved the place and had a little bit of everything (bouldering, top roping, lead climbing, training area, yoga, and weight lifting equipment). Thought the grading on the routes were totally fair and spot on. The staff were super helpful, kind, and informative- especially Rob. My boyfriend and I were visiting from CA on a trip to visit Zion National Park. We went here since we both rock climb back home and Rob had amazing advice for us on how to navigate through Zion, as well as helpful pieces of advice and recommendation on hikes based on our skill level. 10/10 couldn't recommend more!! Definitely made our trip more fun! read more

This place is so cool. The owners (Compas' and Hortons) did an excellent job creating such a rad space for the climbing community of southern Utah. The climbing (roped and bouldering) is both fun and challenging, the yoga (awesome studio btw) is relaxing, and the fitness area means I don't need a gym membership anywhere else. Yoga Via is a beautiful studio space inside Contact Climbing gym. Love the huge windows and vaulted ceilings. Great variety of yoga classes... even meditation. Awesome low price for membership especially considering you get yoga, climbing and gym / fitness included. I got my first class free (nice bonus) to check it out. Highly recommend! read more
