She was annoyed at the first appt when she waited 3 hrs and he was not nice. She later heard from a friend that people said he's awful but she had already scheduled the surgery so went ahead with it. The day of the surgery she was scheduled for 8am but was not seen until 1pm. She had pain during the procedure and assumed it's normal. Each followup appt she waited 3 hours and always complained about him. I finally went to one with her to help her ask a question because she said she sees flickering and flashes in the periphery of her surgery eye. We waited 2 hours to be seen and when he showed up he didn't even look at either of us or say hi. We brought up our question so he checked her retina then immediately said "it's fine, surgery was perfect". We asked what to do about the flashing and flickering because it's causing her headaches and dizziness. He said again that "it's not the surgery, she has a floater, you can see flashing light from floater with or without the surgery". He then said he does not think she's getting headaches or dizziness. WTF. I asked what he means by that since she is clearly expressing a relationship between her vision and her headaches and dizziness. He said "I just don't think she's having them". Again, WTF?!? He defended his surgery repeatedly even though we never said anything about the surgery. She then asked another question about whether her medical condition can slow the healing process and he immediately dismissed her with a hand wave before she even finished her question. He has horrible bedside manner, does not care about his patients, and is defensive. While we were there he rudely complained about another patient to his assistant while in our room. His staff is inexperienced and he spends more time telling them what to click on the computer than examining the patient. If I had gone with my mom to the initial appt I would never have let her continue to see him or let him operate on her eye. It's been two months and her eye is bothering her... but apparently he doesn't believe it. Regardless of whether or not it is related to the surgery he should still treat her or at least attempt at reassuring her. He is just awful.

I've never left their offices thinking that they could have done better. Over the years some of the reception people have been uneven but that's an epidemic across all medical practices where lack of training, low pay, high turnover and corporate consolidation proliferate. I was left to wait 45 - 50 minutes without so much as a single update. Finally, I told the front desk staff I was leaving and emphasized that my insurance should not be billed for this non-visit. She was so unbothered I started looking around for the cameras since I was surely being pranked. There was zero apology let alone an acknowledgment for the wait and in fact I was genuinely asked if I would like to re-schedule my appt for another time. I looked at this person as if she grew a big horn out of her head. Its a shame because Dr Desai is extremely competent with an excellent bedside manner. I looked up some reviews of this practice because its in free fall mode and found out the practice was sold to a private equity company a few years back. Mystery solved. Pure Chaos! Avoid at all cost!
