There is a small waiting area with various potions for sale along one wall. It was very minimalistic, clean and modern. Watching the people walk by outside distracted me from what I was about to do. I noted that I didn't hear anyone screaming so it must be ok. At my appointment time this tiny little sadist came out and got me. She was sweet and soft spoken. We get into her room where she closed the door and told me to take off my pants. Just like that?!? No dinner? No cocktail? No niceties, just "take off my pants" while she's standing there? Ack! I shrugged it off, thinking she was going to clearly see everything anyway but eek. She told me to lay face up on the table and assume the butterfly position. I told her to be gentle because it's my first time. She explained about the wax they use and a little about the process. She asked if I had watched any videos or anything then giggled when I said no. She assured me I'd be fine.... The nice lady then begins to apply hot wax to my most sensitive areas. Starting along the top and sides. This is when reality kicks in that she's going to have to rip it off, and rip it off she did. I kept my cool, focused on breathing. While I was distracted she did it AGAIN! On the same area!!! At this point I'm considering calling this whole thing off, but then I feel hot wax in an even more sensitive spot! And it is running INTO PLACES!!!! Into!!! Then I'm really concerned because I'm worried she is going to just flat out rip my lady parts off!!! Can that happen? Will I die? And then, she rips the wax. The most searing hot pain I have ever felt in my life rips the very breath from my body. You guys? This is worse than child birth. I've had four kids with horrible back labor and this was worse!!!!!! Then I feel the wax on the other side. At this point, I'm clutching my hair in my hands, sweating, tearing up, barely breathing, I mayyy die after all. The nice sadist lady notices I'm shaking and says she going to give me a minute. I whimper out a breathless thanks. She tells me that I'm halfway through the worst part. Ugh. Then sends me back into it. I felt my soul leave my body. But then she re-waxes those same areas several times to "get the little hairs" that had been left behind. I think she was just enjoying herself by causing me pain lol. So then it's over, right? Wrong! Now she tells me to hug my knees to my chest so she has access to my OTHER sensitive area. I start to quiver and she tells me it's the easiest part and quite honestly, she was right. NOW it's over, right? Nope. Now she wants to tweeze any strays she sees. I'm thinking to myself I've used tweezers a time or two, this part will be fine. I was wrong. Very wrong. It literally felt like she dug the tweezers deep into my pores themselves and rooted around for things. After a few tweezes she decides I've had enough since I was in so much pain and my skin was very angry at us. She finished me off with a soothing serum that she says will help with the irritation and prevent ingrowns and suggested that I purchase some to use at home. At this point I will do anything to get out of this torture room. I go to check out and they offer me a membership package because apparently people choose to do this to themselves more than once? I don't know if I'm those people. There you have it. The good, the bad, the ugly. Now that it's over it's almost like getting a tattoo. It hurts like hell but you think "I did that" and survived. I don't know yet if I'll do it again or not but we shall see....

Alex was highly recommended on here so I made an appointment with her. Everyone I talked to really hyped up the pain of a first time Brazilian, so naturally I was terrified. Immediately, Alex made me feel comfortable and put me at ease. She gave me clear instructions on what to do ad made conversation the whole time. It was not awkward at any moment and, surprise, barely even hurt! Alex explained that the hard wax used at Affinity is less painful and shows better results than strip wax. I can now say this is something I plan to continue all summer long. It's so convenient not having to worry about shaving "down there", and even better knowing I have a person to go to who is amazing at her job. Affinity is a little pricey ($67 for the wax plus 20% tip) but it's completely worth it to me.
