I signed up for the online version of the General B contractor class. The Law & Business webinars with Dale were GREAT! Lots of great kernels of wisdom that REALLY helped understand the vantage point of the testers thus helping you understand the perspective of which to view the questions. The Gen B DVD with Bruce was equally GREAT. I really appreciated his straightforward no nonsense delivery of information. His tips to recall/retain information was critical in helping me pass the Gen B test. The online practice tests are the secret sauce tying it all together. Was the process perfect? No, got a few things to gripe about. What matters is I passed both tests on first try though. No way in hell I could have done that without this program! read more

I signed up for my classes , wanted to become a Corporation on C27 , I was told I came sign up for Corp. till I become a contractor , which I was ok at the moment, (they know better)* When I took my crush courses they asked us who signed up for Corp and whom for single proprietor , and that's when I knew I after I have a license as a sole I have to pay to the Board again to become a Corp, . I asked the guys at the other school and they told me I could've signed for Corp since the beginning and they don't know why this person told me not to , also on San Rafael they told me I can not use apostrophes on my company name , after I pases the test I asked directly to the board and they say it was ok since the beginning . Patsy is the name of the lady who helps on San Rafael , very rude and today I come to see if they can orient me on how to add an apostrophe and. Hanger phone number Her words , We don't help you after you finish school , You are on your own . I just recommend a couple people , I'll defined tell them to go to other school. So...where do I start? I passed, but why....I studied my ass off. I signed up - received my materials...went to all my classes, I signed up for all the additional classes. Here is the breakdown...each office, in each city - bad mouthed each other...of the 3 different locations I went to (for a total of 5 different "instructors') each with the exception of one (instructor) taught me NOTHING! What I learned was how to take a test or relearn test taking skills - Valuable What the test would be like - Valuable What I found - The CD's and DVD are a great sleeping pills (much like the instructors I encountered)....use caution when driving and listening to them...you could fall asleep at the wheel! The online tests were slow - a need for an upgraded server is in order here- but if you i you get online a 4 am, it works fine. The site crashed a total of 3 times - but you can start again where you left off (I guess they figured that part out). That being hired as a instructor, doesn't make you a teacher! I found that all but one of the instructors, to be lacking in the skills necessary to instruct their students...reading from a book...doesn't make you a teacher, handing you a test after having had to listen to you reading. after you read from the same book in my study materials from does not make you an instructor. I was put in a very difficult situation, with a lot of people counting on me...I passed but I had over 25 years in the filed. I would caution anyone wanting to get their contractors license to contact the California State Contractor Board and find out who and what they recommend. Just because your across the street from the CSLB does not equate to a recommendation - what it does is take advantage of people who are trying to get ahead in life, read more

I feel this "school" is very poorly organized. Not one thing that has to do with a time line has been done on time. After charging my card $695 over the phone, I felt the need to make a verbal request for a receipt of some sort. The lady assured me she would send me an email breaking down the charges. 48 hrs passed and I still didn't have a receipt. I had to send and email requesting some sort of receipt. They sent me a link to online practice tests, but no receipt. One week later I was advised by phone call that my study materials had arrived at the San Rafael location. (This binder I later found out is valued at $300 and is not refundable). I arrived at the San Rafael school for my orientation and to pick up my binder. The woman goes over everything that binds me to the program and has me sign and initial a few forms basically stating there is no way I'm getting my money back. She tells me I will get an email 3 or 4 days prior to my online class starting up. She lets me know that I have only so many hours before it starts to sign up, and if I don't show up I may not be eligible to reschedule without paying additional fees. She proceeds to let me know my online course will start a week away on May 5th. May 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th all come and go with no email to sign up for the class. May 5th arrives......12pm 1pm... ok Enough... I call and remind them to send me the "important" email I need to get to sign up for classes. They say oh.. uh oh...yeah let me send that out. 2 1/2 hrs before class starts I get the email I was supposed to get days in advance. I'm fed up and just want out at this point. Things have just been too sloppy and just aren't leaving me feeling confident. So I call the main office for Contractors State License Services. After some phone tag I get a sales rep who wants to offer me "more services at no cost" and is" very sorry we started out like this". He told me I can't get a refund for the binder.... And if I want a refund I need to email him the reason why. When I asked for his email address, he asked for mine, (at this point I had provided my name, number and email it seemed to be a million times). He tells me "oh I'll just shoot you a quick email that way I have yours and you've got mine!." We hung up. He never sent an email or provided his email address. So I'm just done with this place. I'm currently still trying to get a full or partial refund. The sales rep insisted they get business from word of mouth... WELCOME TO YELP ;) read more

This review is for Patsy at CSLS. The whole process of getting your license seems hard or scary, in reality it isn't. When your talk with patsy the hard is completely taken away and she helps and coaches you thru the process quickly and easily. You still have to apply yourself and study hard to pass the exam, but patsy will make the paperwork process so quick and easy you'll ask yourself why you didn't call CSLS sooner. I would recommend patsy to anyone who is actually serious about getting their contractors license. After enrolling and paying up front, in full, I later learned that the class I was taking was NOT designed for my individual trade study. It was a generalized class that had multiple trades in it at the same time, making learning confusing. After requesting help from a person, the secretary would continue to insist that the cd's provided in the "course materials binder " would suffice any questions that I may or may not have. The classroom has a bathroom located inside the classroom, right next to the instructor. Yes you hear Everything that's happening inside the bathroom! The "classroom" is small and cramped. 22' x22' square and absolutely inadequate for any student looking for seclusion or peace n quiet while overlooking their materials. The tables are folding type like those used at a banquet hall or party rental. The study materials are placed into a binder so large, you feel as if you're back in middle school. After taking this course, I realized that this program is not the correct fit for me. It wasn't designed for you to learn, it's designed for profit. I say that because after explaining my situation to the administrator she told me "Sorry you signed a contract and its binding" as opposed to offering me " Extra help, extending the classes to a later date, a partial refund, a different course study program, a full refund and or ANY supportive information in any way. I left feeling Dissappointed,Slighted, and robbed. I've emailed and called asking for some form of refund or apology for being swindled into paying upfront, but with no luck. This school isn't what it should be, and it's disappointing. read more

I love this school. Very Helpful. The person that works at the school is very special, Elisa is the best. The whole process was very easy. I studied hard and got my license. The online testing is really gooooood! Did I say good? I mean great!!! You can take the online tests as many times as you want. If your online subscription expires then you can buy more time each month. I purchased extra months. Elisa helps student's fill out the application. The application is the hardest darn part. She does an extra good job and was outstanding!!! If you do the studies, online tests and work hard, you will get your license. The teacher, Mary was also awesome. The study materials are on the money! Awesome. Of all the things the online testing was super helpful. I also read the books and used the CD's. I did the online testing every single day for 20 minutes. Sometimes I did it for one hour. My last day I did the test about six times. It was super great!!!!! The Crash Course was very interesting and helpful. I went to Sacramento for the Crash Course and Joe was very good. Mary and Joe are good at explaining and making things easy to understand. I did purchase the Spanish version of all the materials. This was super helpful. Spanish is my main language but this program helped me every step of the way. Can not say enough good things about Elisa, Mary, Joe, Roxanne and the entire team of people that really support us in a Professional way. I happen to live near by but the location is super easy to get in and out of after or during my work hours. The school is beautiful and super clean. Nice place to go study when I had some extra time in the day. I can honestly say: I LOVED THIS ENTIRE SCHOOL, LEARNING PROCESS. I will go back to get additional licenses and certifications. The school was great. They had all the material needed no hassels/ Elissa who runs the school office helped me through the whole process. I really had no problems at all, everything went according to what she said it would. Sure you need to put in the time and study but every thing was provided to me that i needed soit made it much smoother. Test are great and very helpfull in terms of preparing you for the real test. I was initially very excited about working with this school. I received my materials quickly and began studying. At the point I was ready to fill out my application I decided to fill my application on my own rather than pay the $150 for them to fill out the application for me. I came across one section on the application that I just wanted a brief clarification on as it was pertaining to a specialty license which carry subcategories along with the classification. When I called to ask the lady in the office if she could clarify I was treated extremely rudely and basically told I was up a creek without a paddle unless I paid the $150 for them to fill my app out for me. When I signed up I was told that I could ask for help, even though they prefer to do it themselves. I do not enjoy being made to feel that I was promised one thing and then when it comes time, told another. I will not be recommending this school to anyone else and furthermore as I plan on obtaining multiple licenses, they will not be receiving my business for any further study guides. Over $500 for the package I paid for and this person couldn't spare me 5 minutes to answer my ONE simple question. I work in an industry where customer service is essential to the success of the business and while (if I were in her shoes) I wouldn't fill out the application for free but I would be more than happy to take a minute to answer one of my customers questions. Apparently it was more important to answer the cell phone call I heard in the background than to help out a current customer...too bad I have about 10 friends and associates that were thinking of using this contractor school, I guess losing all that potential business was worth poor customer service and an attempt at strong arming $150 out of me. read more
