We are so glad to have stumbled across Cook Me Eat Me. When we visited, it had only been open for 25 days. It's a small, unassuming place a short walk from Istiklal Cadesi and Galata Kulesi. It is like you're eating at a good friend's house because it is literally an open kitchen and dining room of an old apartment. It would probably seat no more than 10-12 people without feeling cramped.
Chef Arzu trained in Italy and France. Her Sous Chef Murat is a fellow competitor from a Turkish cooking show. Both Arzu and Murat are very friendly and clearly know their way around a kitchen.
The menu seems to change regularly, if not daily. Their website is not up yet, but apparently the daily menu is available on their IG page.
We started with fresh squeezed orange juice, dumplings, and smoked salmon rolls. The rolls were good, although maybe just a little basic: smoked salmon and julienned carrots, cucumbers, and onions with a ponzu dipping sauce. The dumplings were incredible, although maybe a little less yogurt would make the dumplings more of the star.
The sea bass (levrek) was amazing. Higher prices than at the fish market, but it was de-boned unlike other places. It was roasted/steamed in the oven with veggies and wrapped in parchment paper and served with a side of colorful quinoa. The bolognese was delicious, too.
To top it all of, Chef Arzu played the piano for us. This was the best overall dining experience we've had in Istanbul. read more
