Our first night in Istanbul we had dinner here as it was literally 50 feet from our hotel. We came back our last night because of our waiter Kadir. We received excellent service both nights and Kadir made the dining experience fun. The food was very good especially the Sultan's Chicken. The appetizer bread was delicious as were the olives. The wind was good but a little pricey. Both nights the restaurant was busy which added to the pleasant ambiance. It warmer weather it would have been enjoyable to sit outside, a lovely garden. read more

My mom and I stopped in for dinner during our first day in Istanbul because we saw some reviews that said this place was great. Needless to say, they were right. I wish I could remember my waitress' name (she had short red hair) because she was just an ABSOLUTE GEM. She gave us recommendations, and although there was a bit of a language barrier, she ensured we were happy throughout our meal. Anyway, to start we ordered the meat pide. It came out pretty quickly and was delicious. It came with minced cheese, a delicious thin crust topped with melted kaşar cheese, and plenty of minced meat. The minced meat filling is seasoned with onions, garlic, spices, and fresh herbs. SO GOOD! For our meals, my mom ordered the beef kabob, and I ordered the Mousakka. I want to say that this Mousakka is the best eggplant dish I have ever had. It was a split eggplant stuffed with finely chopped beef back sauteed with red onion, peppers, and tomatoes, served in a casserole, and topped with kasha cheese. My mom's beef kabobs were delicious, too, and came with rice and some veggies. Overall, I recommend this restaurant because it serves delicious food and provides great service. read more

We had a delicious meal on Monday night at Garden 1897, after seeing the great reviews on Yelp. The food stood up to those reviews and it was so nice to have Turkish food that was befitting a good restaurant not the cafeteria type food served at most Touristy cafes/restaurants. The service was great- friendly staff & delivery of food at the right time. The restaurant setting is like a garden amidst all the buildings surrounding it and gives a pretty outlook with an indoor/outdoor feel. While I was impressed with the ambiance of the restaurant, the food and to a lesser extent, the service, left me with a lot to be desired. The fish was not seasoned, the salad came with no dressing, and I had to ask for some; the bread dried up very quickly and the meza was somewhat tasteless. The setting is elegant with seating indoors, undercover, or open to the sky. We were greeted warmly, and made to feel welcome. Menus are QR and Wi-Fi is provided. Dishes are grouped by region and described beautifully, including a photo. A few senior waiters handle ordering and there's plenty of young runners to keep food coming hot. Our waiter Ruslan was a pro and kept everything effortless. By 8:00 the patios were filled with locals and tourists enjoying the warm October 29 evening. read more

This place was absolutely wonderful. The food was delicious. We had the mixed mezze, the vegetable couscous, and the Ali nazik Kebab. The bread though. I would eat it everyday if I could. This place is great for everyone. One person in our party was a vegan and they absolutely loved everything. The outdoor seating was perfection. The staff was so friendly and attentive. Garden 1897 is a special stop. If you need to unwind after a long fun day in the city or meet up with you friends to celebrate an event look no further! This place is a gem! The atmosphere is very relaxing, It is a popular spot, yet you always get a special attention. My server, Mira, made me feel like home. We started in English and slid into Russian. She helped me choose from the menu: lamb kabob one day and lamb and eggplant kabob the next. I brought my mother back with me for a special treat. We started with the appetizers sampler, then got kabobs and grilled whole sea bass. The tea and desert was a nice sweet finish to a perfect dinner. Visited Istanbul for a week and had dinner on our last night. We ordered the two chicken kabob plate and penne pasta. Both were very tasteful. My chicken kabob was slightly over cooked, however they went out of their way to bring two juicy pieces of chicken kabobs without hesitation. Our server Kadir was able to communicate with us in English and catered to every need. Ambiance and food was great. We will definitely come here again when we return to Istanbul. read more

Tired of endless kebab restaurants & disingenuous reviews? Looking for quality Turkish dishes in a beautiful garden setting located in the older section of the city minutes from the Blue Mosque? Located within a boutique hotel I thought "Here we go another B.S. review" but don't leg that stop you. We saw the other good reviews & decided to try ourselves. I'm so glad we did! Kadir was our waiter and like all our the staff was extremely friendly. I highly rec. the lamb shank that is served over a charcoal grilled egg plant with the most wonderful flavor accompanied by a grilled pepper (not spicy think hatch pepper), buttered veggies and their version of mashed potatoes. I topped it off by pouring what they call bbq sauce over my lamb & eggplant (it's a wonderfully flavored light gravy). We had 2 appetizers (stuffed meatballs great) & 2 entries w/ a cola, lemonade & water that came to approx $70 USD including tip which seemed reasonable considering the good service and quality food. I def. recommend trying this place solo or with a romantic interest. All meals are finished with a courtesy traditional Turkish coffee or Tea accompanied by tasty baklava and quite possibly the best vanilla ice cream both of us agreed we've ever tried (seriously it was like butter & fresh vanilla seed pods). Whoa.. what a gem! I had this place on my list of restaurants to try when visiting Istanbul. Upon arriving into Istanbul early evening, I decided to stop by here to have my first meal in this lovely city. I was not disappointed. First off, the welcoming of the waitstaff was a nice touch. I wanted something light as I was still adjusting to the 8 hour time difference between Istanbul and Boston, MA USA. I started out with the pomegranate juice. It was good, but it has a slight grainy feel to it. For dinner, I ordered the Greek salad. That was huge. They serve their Greek salad differ from the one in Greece. They used balsamic and Pomegranate vinegar instead. It was good, but way too big for 1 person. In addition, I also order their cheese mushrooms.. holy smoke, it came to the table bubbling hot with melting gooey cheese. That was so good with the Pita bread. Overall, it was a fabulous meal. I highly recommend this place. Don't let it being next to a hotel/part of a hotel discourage you. read more
