The couple who owns the winery is very nice and welcoming. Pilot Mountain Vineyard and Winery offers a selection of dry and semi-dry wines, and you can opt to do a white wine flight or a red wine flight. I indulged in the white wine flight and really enjoyed each wine. I tend to only be a semi-dry to sweet wine drinker, but I really enjoyed the dry wines here as well. I especially liked that the oak barrel wines, like the oak barrel Chardonnay, did not have an overbearing oak taste. The Charm also had a nice finish. I highly recommend a visit to this winery if you happen to be in the area.

I then emailed back to inquire about his cancellation policy. He said 7 days. I called him the next day to book our accomodations. He said that he had changed his mind when I asked about the cancellation policy. "It concerned him that I asked". "No one had ever asked about that before and that we would be tying up 75% of his inventory for that weekend and if we cancelled he would lose money that weekend." I assured him that I always verify a cancellation policy anytime I reserve a hotel or Airbnb and that we would only cancel in an emergency situation (medical, death, etc.). He still said he was concerned. I find it hard to believe that no one has asked about his cancellation policy in the years he has been doing this. That is a normal procedure when making a reservation. He was rude about the entire thing. Maybe he can find someone else that wants to rent 3 of 4 places he has at one time for that weekend! The host/owner Donnie is casual, friendly and helpful. There are 3 cabooses and a Depot available for lodging. All are well spaced apart to provide comfort and privacy. If traveling with a group your still close enough to stumble on over to your on caboose. The pictures on the website are pretty accurate. You are on the blue ridge parkway about 20 minutes from Mount Airy ( Mayberry RFD), Malbry Mill, Galax and many other beautiful stops along the parkway. If peace and quite is what you are seeking this fits the bill. We chould have sat on the porch all day but the fiddles were calling.
