Cool Crest is THE BEST! I've been there twice on my visit to St. Joseph. It says it's "A friendly place for friendly people" and that is so true! The staff was super sweet and incredibly friendly! The gardens are gorgeous! And all the courses are kept in great condition and they haven't changed a thing in years! I highly recommending spending a hour or two for a fun, quiet and sweet time! read more

this place is fun and reasonably priced. I think 3 or 4 different courses that vary in difficulty. We always end our trip with a yummy root beer float in the pretty paved area surrounded by lights and trees. very pretty read more

Will not go untill rules and management changes. No child under 5 allowed but this is a "family friendly" place??? And if you do get to golf, they follow you around. Like I'm going to steal a golfball?? And the old man has no problem yelling at children that they are nt swinging the club the right way. Cool Crest was so much fun for me when I was a child. We miss the old Cool Crest!!! Our grandsons loved to go there. At the end of the school years we took our 12 and 10 year old grandsons there along with our 3 year old granddaughter. We were told right away that the 3 year old could not play. I said I was just going to share the club with her and they said we could not to that. Of course, she didn't understand this. We should have left but went onto play. On the 2nd hole, Jan came over and told us that the 3 year old had to stay on the sidewalk and that "This isn't Kiddie Land, you know." Really???? Here are two grandparents with their 3 grandkids trying to enjoy some minature golf and they act like we have come to vandalize the place. We were watched like hawks for the rest of the time. We will never go back. It is so sad because we have been going to Cool Crest since we were kids ourselves and it use to be so relaxing and a fun place. Too bad!! This place has taken a beating from whiney parents that are upset because Timmy is too young to play. Geeze learn to follow rules you snowflakes. The people complaining seem to be the brain dead parents that just stare at their phones and let their brats rip up stuff and think it's cute. I saw some lady taking a photo of her kid annihilating part of a flower garden. Hmmm I guess that's why they have rules there to help try keep the riffraff out. Well enough of that rant...this place is gorgeous. It still has all the old statues and obstacles that we grew up with. It's like stepping back in time. Beautiful flowers and they are constantly painting, cleaning and updating. Nothing beats the root beer float in a frosty mug afterwards. Now I will say it has gotten a bit pricey, but considering how much everything else is in this town (you have to take out a loan to go see a movie) I guess it's priced about right. read more

Cool Crest no longer allows children under the age of 5 to play and they do not believe parents if they think your child "looks" younger than 5. (I guess we need a birth certificate?) Cool Crest does not even allow parents to assist their kids with the putter anymore. Hands-off, folks, I suppose a 5-year-old should have been born with the knowledge of how to putt? The staff at Cool Crest was very unfriendly and I had difficulty explaining their rude behavior to my kiddo's. This is no longer a family friendly establishment. Although my kids had a great time the past two summers (when they were 3 and 4), we will not be returning after the terrible experience they just had. read more

We visited Cool Crest on July 14, 2012 and were very disappointed with our experience. My husband and I both grew up in Saint Joseph (now living in KC) and Cool Crest was one of our fondest memories, having gone there since both of us were children. Now having four (4) grandchildren, we were trying to keep up our tradition of playing at Cool Crest every summer. We had taken the two older grandchildren there, now 10 and 6 for several years, and this was the first time we were taking their 3 year old brother. After talking this day up, we headed to St. Joe with three very excited kids. When we arrived at the Cool Crest ticket booth, the 50+ year old female employee at the window, rudely informed us that the 3 year old could not play nor even TOUCH the golf club. She made no apologies and told us we could all go play at the Golf Club (the other miniature golf course in town) if we wanted the 3 year old to play. Obliviously, we had one very upset 3 year old, but after his meltdown, he very maturely decided that Papa, his older brother and sister could play and myself (Grandma) and him could walk along and watch. We were made to feel very uncomfortable, as an older female employee continually followed and watched us to make sure the youngest child did not TOUCH the golf club. This place is no longer child-friendly and we will not be returning to play at Cool Crest. It is a shame that a place that used to be fun to take the family isn't anymore. I would think that Guy and Jan Saxton would be ashamed of the way people are now being treated. read more
