On a lark I checked for an available res on a Saturday night and must have been lucky enough to snag a cancellation. Service was great - warm and attentive. The restaurant decor is nice looking but not particularly notable. Seating was comfortable and the noise level was comfortable. We received a fried smoked salmon ball with salmon roe as an amuse. I didn't care for it but my companion liked it. We each received a warm rosemary roll and generous pat of butter. These were tasty, but nothing too exciting. For starters we had the foie Gras terrine (yummy! Except we did not care for the dehydrated olive oil/sesame at all) and dungeness crab salad. The crab salad was really delightful - light fresh crab with ajli and some celery for crunch, covered in thinly sliced breakfast radishes. For mains we had the sole (yum!) And scallops with melted leeks and beets. The scallops were fantastic. Dessert was a chocolate gateau with peanut butter ice cream and bruleed bananas (rich and yummy!) And a macadamia ice cream bombe with chocolate cookie. This was tasty but the ice cream had the taste and consistency more like ice milk. I would have preferred if it was creamier but it was still a solid dessert. read more

Had a wonderful meal at Copine. First off, the service is exemplary. Every dish was beautifully presented and special. My favorites were the beet and caramelized pear salad (a generous size for a starter) and the halibut entree. The agnolotti was also wonderful. I would probably not order the dungeness crab salad again. It was gorgeous but didn't really excite me and there were no greens. The chocolate dessert with pb ice cream was super rich and great to share. I love the frequent and stealth service of the waitstaff. Waters were always refilled immediately, table fully cleared between courses and also de-crumbed. Treat yourselves to a special evening! read more

It's not often that you look at a menu and just say "yes". Copine is a blend of so many different cultures all rolled into one. I ordered the dungeness salad that quite literally left me wanting more. The foie gras was rich and flavorful. The bread even came with its own presentation. While we were only there for drinks and just got the two apps we have already set a date to return. The atmosphere is sophisticated but not stuffy. Ruven is a delight who makes drinks with an artistic flare that is sure to please. I loved the book bindery and was sad when it closed. Copine is more than a rebound and may possibly be the one. read more

Fabulous restaurant! Very simple decor, good spacing between tables (not too cramped). Waitress was excellent. She was knew her stuff and was very attentive. Started off with a yummy amuse bouche, then a delicious white dinner roll with sea salt and warm butter - yum! We had the hamachi and steak tartare for apps - wow! Flavors were outstanding! We went for the Sunday dinner with the add-on course, the hostess was lovely and warm upon entry. The space is very barren, overly so in my opinion, it made me somewhat uneasy. While the food was excellent, we were frustrated with the pace of the coursing. We waited at least 15 minutes between our server clearing our dishes and bringing each of the following courses. Seeing that we ordered everything at once, I don't see how we could have caught the kitchen off guard...perhaps they were understaffed that night. Service was less knowledgeable than I expected at this kind of establishment, stumbling over descriptions as dishes were set on the table. We ended up having two servers, they rotated around the restaurant the entire time we were there and we still felt unattended to at times. The amuse bouche and bread are delightful. Crudo and a very playful deviled egg for appetizer, followed by decadent gnocchi and agnolotti. Flavors all on point. For entrees, the grilled sturgeon was some of the best fish I've had in a long time but 3 tiny haricots verts laid on top seemed stingy. My partner had the short rib, great flavor but the texture wasn't as fall apart as I imagined. I chuckled at the two tiny slices of rapini on top. The accompanying polenta had no corn taste at all. My last course was a goat cheese option. I did not love this one as it was a rinded cheese and I don't typically eat the rind of soft cheeses - personal preference but I think there are better options/presentations. The sweet choice was a take on lemon meringue pie which was delicious! The custard had almost a panna cotta texture. I don't think you can go wrong with their wine list and they offer very generous pours. All in all a lovely dinner as long as you don't walk in with Michelin expectations on food or service. read more

So good! We made reservations to sit at the bar on the recommendation of a friend. It was a very fun experience. The bar tender was so informative and friendly. We ordered 2 apps and 2 mains and shared everything. Highlighting our favorites... The risotto was out of this world! Very rich, perfect textures and flavors. And, the pork entree was delicious. Perfectly crispy puff pastry outside and perfectly moist and cooked pork sausage inside. Reminds me of a home cooked meal, but elevated. We would definitely go back. read more

Copine was a wonderful place for a celebration. We asked the waiter to just bring food to share, and he delivered three fantastic courses. The foie gras terrine and oysters started us off wonderfully. Delicious Calamari Salad, perfectly seared Sea Scallops, and a medium rare Ribeye were some of the most memorable items. Love the vibe and food here. Adventurous but aporoachful. I mean watermelon foam! Chose to go here for my birthday one year. Left super happy with all of our choices and the wait staff is attentive without being overly so. Highly recommend. You can be quite happy stopping for an app and bevvie. I like that's it's off the main hub of Ballard but walkable so if you want you can you walk the few blocks back to the hubbub of Ballard. I recently had the pleasure of a lovely dinner at Copine, a new restaurant from the owners of the also lovely Book Bindery. Although just recently opened in July 2016, the secret must be rapidly getting out as the only reservations for a Tuesday night were 5 and 8:30 pm. Because it's in a sleepy, quiet section of Ballard, street parking was plentiful and easy. My first impression of Copine was that the decor is absolutely beautiful. I couldn't help but mentally take notes for decorating my future living room. Reclaimed wood, clean lines, a subtle color palette highlighted by whites and grays, and air plants -- what's not to love? From there, the experience only got better and better. We absolutely enjoyed our food: -fried salmon amuse bouche: presented adorably, topped with roe, and just enough to thoroughly whet my appetite. -rosemary bread roll: so simple, and yet savory and sweet blended together. I could eat about a million of these. -ahi tuna crudo: with compressed watermelon, jalapeno, and mizuna salad: a beautiful concerto of fresh, summer flavors. A definite must-try. -handmade sweet corn agnolotti: with lobster mushrooms, mission figs, brown butter emulsion. gorgeous colors, and very pretty plating. The pasta had the perfect texture and everything was well balanced in this dish. -crispy sablefish: my favorite thing that we ordered. The flavor of the sablefish literally made fireworks go off in my head, and matched with the perfect crispiness, this one is hard to beat! Kept sneaking bites off of my friend's plate! -peach melba: with frozen vanilla cream and raspberries: again, plated beautifully. This dessert was just okay. The peaches didn't seem very naturally sweet, they were mostly coated with syrup that made their sweetness a little cloying. The raspberries were sour, and it was just difficult to eat the frozen cream (why not just have ice cream?). Overall, this restaurant is a wonderful dining experience and I'm so glad I got to experience it while a reservation is still relatively easy to procure. I will definitely be back. read more

I would have given this restaurant 5 star as the food and presentation was amazing but the service was lacking an emotional connection.First of all, when I made reservation I was not asked if we were celebrating a special event.Our waitress seemed to be preoccupied with something during the whole dinner and the restaurant was not that busy. I specifically request that my lamb rack to be cooked to medium well with no blood and when the food was delivered to the table, we had to send it back.The food runner did not know who ordered what appetizer. I think there was lack of communication between staff. When you go to high end restaurant you have certain expectations. I was a bit disappointed with service. read more

I'm from Los Angeles so this is from the pov of a non local. I imagine the location makes this mostly a local diner place. I came here based on the recommendation from a friend from Seattle who lives in Los Angeles. It was about a 30 minute Uber from downtown hotel at dinner time. At first I wasn't sure where the heck we're going and even when the Uber dropped us off we had to look for the restaurant to find it. The decor is modern but not very impressive for a jaded LA diner but it's good enough. The food is on par with a solid 4 star from LA or NYC but the price is much cheaper. The menu is simple with just a few starters and mains but enough variety to make anyone happy. Nothing mind blowing in terms of taste, presentation or ambiance. I can see the locals frequenting this place but for me it didn't make it worth the trek from downtown. It's not a knock but that's just the way I feel. read more

Copine delivered in every way imaginable for my wife and me yesterday, as we dined in celebration of our 20th anniversary. Hip and new Seattle restaurants can too often beat you over the head with nouveau sophistication, characterized by incongruous flavor profiles (that often don't really work), heavy handed sauces (that overwhelm the senses), and/or overly-cute service practices (that just piss you off). None of those faux qualities dog the folks at Copine. The meal we enjoyed was balanced, innovative, and sparkled at all the right moments. It showcased the individual ingredients and courses, while still working harmoniously as a whole. The lovely tempura salmon amuse bouche topped with roe (and served on a creatively designed standing fork) was filled with flavor. My first course was risky -- tuna tartar is so common nowadays on a Seattle menu that it stops just short of being "McTuna". But the thought to pair it with a delicately sliced round of watermelon and mint was ingenious. I followed it up with a pasta main course that I presumed would be heavy, Agnolotti with English peas and a brown butter sauce. However, the dish was anything but heavy, with perfectly cooked dumplings of pasta and a complementary brown butter sauce that was out of this world. The pairing of these two dishes (for which I will take only the most nominal of credit) -- neither of which offered too much or too little in portion size -- reminded me of the elegant interplay of courses that I enjoyed when I lived in Europe. Dessert sustained the impression of a restaurant firing on all cylinders, with a dense chocolate gateau featuring a lovely crunchy base, offset by a scoop of silky strawberry ice cream. A great meal is always at risk from service, but not at Copine. From my reservation experience to the quiet folding of a napkin when the guest stepped away, the level of attentiveness and politeness was extraordinary. I particularly liked how quickly they recognized an uncomfortable seating arrangement (due, in part, to a reclined diner at a neighboring table), and offered us an alternative table without hesitation. Never pretentious, never ostentatious, always interesting and extremely tasty - based on my single experience, Copine would seem like a serious contender for Seattle's best restaurant. read more

Not only did our server exchange out our flatware when it was appropriate she also delivered some of the best drinks. Now, about the food- it's esthetically the most beautiful presentation but also has the best flavor and taste. We had ahi tuna crudo and the slow poached egg as appetizers. I had the pan seared halibut. All delicious and prepared to perfection. Dessert, holy hell. We had the passion fruit- coconut tapioca, valrhona chocolate mousse and strawberry shortcake. I would absolutely recommend Copine to anyone who likes finer dining and good service! From the moment we walked in the door to the time we left, we were treated very well. The food and presentation were awesome. We were treated to a crispy salmon amuse-bouche after we started to enjoy drinks. For an appetizer we shared Salad of Dungeness Crab described as "pickled daikon radish, beech mushrooms, dashi gelée, and lime gastrique." For our entrees, I had Caramelized Sea Scallops described as "young fennel, artichokes, orange suprêmes, candied almonds, bergamot butter" while my boyfriend had POULET RÔTI which is described as "creamy wheat berries, fricassée de champignons, natural jus." They even had my coat waiting for me as I walked to the door to leave. Looking forward to more meals in the neighborhood! read more

Food-very good. Ambiance-Nice, new, minimalist, modern very clean. Bartender-Very proud of himself and slow to get a simple cocktail in our hands. Server-Elitist and borderline rude. Menu is unique with ingredients and preparations that warrant a few questions from even experienced fine diners. She dismissed our inquiries like we were idiots. We asked for bread and reply was "it is served with your entree" and walked away. We won't be back and was the first time in my life I have ever given a server less than 20 percent. I'm a believer in not penalizing a server for slow kitchen or elements out of their control, but I feel they train their staff to have a food elitist attitude and she was downright rude, almost to the point of comical. Good luck people, Book Bindery had great food and similar attitude. Not gonna fly. I give you 18 months. The 3 stars is strictly for the food which was very good. read more

As someone who eats out 4-6 times per week Copine IMO is maybe the best restaurant in Seattle. Everything is dam near perfect - the food, the service and the ambiance. This is likely one of the top 2 or 3 restaurants in the City of Seattle and that is a pretty high bar. We have eaten here 6 times and on every occasion everything we ate was delicious and beautifully prepared. The service is extremely attentive, friendly and professional but not stuffy. Excellent! I have been here twice now and I absolutely love it. On this last trip I got a starter, Carnaroli Risotto, which was amazing. Carnaroli risotto has a black winter truffle, chervil and Parmesan mousseline. For the main entree I got the Anderson Ranch Lamb Rack that has house falafel, stuffed piquillo pepper and green goddess dressing. The lamb was cooked perfectly (I requested Medium Rare) and I loved the stuffed piquillo peppers! For desert I ordered the maple cheesecake with gingered huckleberries and gramcracker. The cheesecake was a great way to end what was a excellent dinner! The service was wonderful as well. There is plenty of wait staff so you do not have a waiter juggling a lot of tables. I felt like I had personal attention and there was never a moment that I was looking for a waiter. I recommend Copine to anyone looking for wonderful food and a nice intimate atmosphere. Copine is not cheap, but the price matches the quality of food that you receive. I would recommend reservations. read more

Amazing place and a great addition to Ballard. The food was phenomenal and so was the service. Everything from the foods presentation to the flavor were on point. The wine list was really well curated and approachable. The menu had a great choice of fish, poultry and beef with in season ingredients. We had the ahi tuna appetizer which was great, served on compressed watermelon and mixed with jalepenos. Then my husband had the duck, which was wrapped in a pastry and was amazing. I had the beef which was also good, and served at the perfect temperature. From start to finish the meal was great, ambiance, service and food were all five star. read more

We were eager to try Copine. The space is beautifully minimal, with sound proofing which still retains an industrial look. We had told the restaurant about my wife's food allergies, and they asked for more information when they called to confirm the reservation. With their reliance on "classical French techniques" we had expected fewer problems, especially after we discussed the allergies in more detail. Soy is a close relative legume to garbanzo beans, and garbanzos need to be avoided by those allergic to soy. However the first alternative amuse Buche presented was a garbanzo base. On learning of the relationship the chef provided a third alternative. The final choices were the romaine soup and risotto appetizers. Both were excellent. For entrees my wife chose the pork loin (with the spaetzel replaced by potato). Very good. I had the duck in pastry, which I thought was outstanding. One note which applies to all restaurants. My wife is allergic to wheat protein, not gluten, but servers, and perhaps the kitchen think only in term of gluten. Many gluten free alternatives to wheat products are based on soy or garbanzos. Do not assume gluten free means foods are safe for persons who avoid wheat! read more
