I visited Copine on July 31st with a 7:30 bar-top reservation for one, and it turned out to be one of the best dining experiences I've had in Seattle. Copine serves only a tasting menu, and when I first looked at the night's lineup I thought, wow--they're serving dishes like this at the bar top? Impressive. I ordered the Pacific shrimp, pork belly rillettes, pastina risotto, and finished with the millionaire shortbread. Every single dish was beautifully executed. The flavors were refined, balanced, and thoughtful--each plate felt like it belonged in a fine dining restaurant, yet the atmosphere made it easy to just relax and enjoy. The service was spectacular. Staff were warm, professional, and attentive without being overbearing. The décor is contemporary American--sleek and modern--but combined with the open, family-style feel, it creates a fine-dining illusion without the stress you sometimes get at more traditional upscale spots (no dark little tables here). One thing to keep in mind: Copine does not offer an à la carte option. The moment you sit down, it's a $140 per person tasting menu (plus supplements and drinks), so plan for around $200 per person. It's not an everyday restaurant, but for special occasions, date nights, or when you just want to treat yourself, it's absolutely worth it. The food, drinks, and service are truly top-notch. Copine is a gem in the Ballard neighborhood--an elevated yet approachable dining experience that feels refined without being intimidating.
Loved everything about this experience. Servers were friendly, prompt, and accommodating. The timing of courses felt fluid and not rushed or slowed. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Atmosphere is minimal but upscale. Romantic lighting and cozy vibes.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Food was incredible. The only thing I wasn't the biggest fan of was the chocolate cake, tasted a little dry, however everything else was amazing. My favorites were the ahi crudo, grilled shrimp, and pierogi (amazing!). Also they gave us a complimentary cheddar biscuit and it was so light and fluffy but with crispy edges - I want 100 of those. Cocktails were great, however they have a great wine pairing that I love as well. We bought the smoked cherries (they have jars) after trying the cocktails - they were that good! Highly recommend Copine for a date night or celebration. It was my birthday and they gave me a candle and a personalized menu to take home. Great experience!
Fantastic! My wife and I went to Copine for her birthday. It was wonderful. I'll keep it short, but it's a very high-end, expensive place, but it's excellent. Food, service, atmosphere. My wife and I both enjoyed the other dishes more than the desserts. But everything was top notch. See photos of our menu - it changes each week-- and our selections. The amuse bouche came unordered. I failed to photograph my scallops. Wonderful. Go. Support this local masterpiece.
We were on a roll alllll the way up to dessert; it felt too good to be true til that point. The service here is excellent - as many have noted in their reviews, it walks the line between casual and truly fine dining very well (attentive but not overly so). At this price point I would appreciate a somewhat slower pace for courses, as well as an attempt to pour beverage refills on occasion (once the bottles hit the table, we were on our own), but overall, we lacked for nothing. As far as the food goes, it is precise, focused, delicious and playful - at least on the savory front. The amuse bouche was a fun take on game day food in honor of the Super Bowl (refined chips and dip, and pigs in a blanket - nom). The foie gras terrine is well worth the supplement - I mean, just look at the technique on display in the photo for this post. It was almost too pretty to eat. Such a beautifully composed dish; the flavors were so harmonious (the brightness of the garnishes, paired with the richness of the foie gras... I'm going to be thinking about that dish for quite some time). The sweetbread supplement was also well worth the addition - I love offal; my companion does not usually love it, but even he was won over. The lamb was perfectly prepared; I was not a fan of the raw carrot garnish, but that was my one nit. The stumbling block of the meal was dessert. I appreciated that it was not overly sweet, however: the vanishingly tiny discs of black sesame panna cotta tasted not at all of sesame - the only item on the plate that gave any hint of that flavor was the black crisp/garnish on top of the raspberry ice cream. For something billed as "black sesame" on the menu, it was disappointingly bland/lacked that signature nutty flavor. The matcha cake was surprisingly stodgy. The only element that I enjoyed was the raspberry ice cream (that was delicious!). I would return to Copine - the environment is relaxing, adult conversation can be had by all (awww the bliss of a quiet dining room), and the majority of the food is quite good. Next time I would choose the cheese course over the sweet dessert option, however.
Have been several times but haven't been in years, as we don't get to Seattle that often. We loved this place then, and we still love it. Food is great, creative and beautifully presented. Servers are attentive, friendly and helpful with suggestions when you can't decide what to order. My husband and I opted to try multi things off the menu and shared that way we could try more things. The atmosphere here is very pleasant - elegant without being snobbish (despite some deep fine-dining background that both founders bring, including NYC's Per Se), relaxed, and intimate. I loved the understated minimalism of the interior, the lighting, and the combination of warm wood and sleek concrete, with some coastal notes of sand and air plants adding lightness. As for the food, I'd suggest you go for a 4-course version (with the mid-course add-on to the standard menu) for a full dinner experience. The menu changes frequently, so there is probably little value in a detailed description of each of the menu items. Overall, it was a pleasant culinary experience, although I would've enjoyed slightly toned-up flavors in a few items. The plating was absolutely beautiful - especially for the dessert. The service was most attentive and always there when you need them, without unnecessary interruptions or hovering. All in all, an enjoyable and memorable evening for sure.
A group of us was in Seattle for an important work conference, and we're looking for an amazing foodie experience. Someone we know who lives locally had recommended this restaurant, and even though it was very far out of our way from downtown, we figured we would make the trip out. First, location should have given away that it was not really supposed to be a fancy five star prix fixe restaurant. It was located on the ground floor of an apartment building in a very regular part of town, not anywhere close to anything and certainly not in an area with an abundant number of other shops or restaurants or anything else for that matter. Second, upon entering, the place seemed like a ghost town. There were not too many people around, and it was very dark, not the nice kind of dark that you would have in a romantic restaurant, but the kind of dark that just happens when you need to upgrade your lighting. The decor was plainly boring. Our server, while pleasant, had a very flat affect and did not seem as if she was happy to be working there. She wasn't too eager to explain anything to us. But that's when it got even worse. When we looked at the menu, we saw that, to our surprise (I wish we had found this out before driving all the way there) it was a fixed price menu and it was starting at $140 a person. That is without any of the very expensive drinks, and it was without some optional upgrades and add-ons. With a drink, you're talking about spending, before tax and tip, anywhere from $160-$200 a person. The menu itself was extremely brief with very limited options available for each of the three courses. For example, for the main entrée, I eat only vegetarian and fish. However, the options were either scallops or duck, neither of which I could eat, and the vegetarian option was potatoes. I'm not joking, $140 for a potato dish. We asked the server if they had anything more substantial to serve us for the main entrée, then add dish of potatoes and she said they would be able to do what they called hand, cut, angel hair pasta with sablefish. It was not on the menu so I was a little bit reluctant, but would be better than potatoes for that price. Now, when the food came out, I had been expecting that for that price I would receive some thing that would be substantial in size and have exceptionally good flavor. The first course that the three of us got was the citrus King Salmon. What they referred to as the first course was literally 2 to 3 bites. And, admittedly, it was lacking in any substantial flavor. The presentation was pretty nice, but I would not even say it was artistic. My two friends had the duck, and both complained that it tasted like rubber, had to firm and rubbery of a texture, and simply did not taste all that great. Their portion sizes were pretty small as well. For me, the portion was so tiny for my entire main entrée that I finished it in a matter of seconds. This angel hair pasta was nothing to speak of, just plain pasta. And, I doubt that there was more than about 3 to 4 g of fish that had been Smashed up and lightly dusted around a tiny amount of pasta. It was almost a joke how little food came in that main entrée, especially given that I had just spent $140. Then, came the desserts. And, while the desserts was nice and in our case, we each got some thing with a piece of baklava and a scoop or rather spoonful of pistachio ice cream, it was nothing to write home about. We all left upset and hungry, regretting our choice. If the restaurant had at least had exceptional ambience, a wonderful server, and provided a nice experience, we could have to some degree overlooked the fact that it was overpriced, the entrées were small and not delicious and that the menu choices were very limited. However, with one of the elements of a restaurant lacking, I feel as if I had been deceived. I eat out a lot, write a ton of reviews, and can tell you that among every restaurant I've eaten at in the last decade, this is the one that I would least recommend. I would urge them to make many changes to their restaurant. Save your money and go to a cheap hole in the Wall sushi place or mom and Pop burrito restaurant as I think you'll have a far more enjoyable experience and you'll be able to pay your rent on top of it.
Went here for date night with hubby. I reserved about a month or so ago for our February 26th date night. The ambience is very romantic - think candlelit dinner :) parking garage for Copine is on 64th st or you can opt for street parking if you can find it. We had the fixed 3 course with a midcourse supplement (after our starters), alcoholic pairing, and non alcoholic pairing. It came out to be $375 total (before tip). Definitely a splurge for a romantic evening or celebration of a life event. Everything was delicious, but I absolutely loved their carbonara and risotto midcourse. The nonalcoholic pairing was also amazing! The drinks paired perfectly with our meals. The service was very attentive. It felt like the perfect date night because of the service staff and food. Definitely will be returning for another date night here. Cheers.
We were excited to come here recently for our anniversary dinner -- great reviews, James Beard nominated, etc. Total ticket for prix fixe with wine pairing plus tip came to just about $500, but I don't think we felt this was worth it. Details below: Dishes: I got the foie gras, crispy king salmon, and carmelized mochi cake desert. Wife got crab salad, bacon wrapped pork loin, and cheese plate dessert. We split an add on, carmelized onion tortellini ($12). PROS - First, ambience, service, etc, was great. Top notch, what you'd expect. Felt waited on when it was needed, and quiet enough to have a conversation but not too quiet. They also gave us a complimentary sparkling wine to start for our anniversary, and lit candles on the desserts. - Second, there was one outstanding dish, Carmelized onion tortellini, which was an add on the main menu -- like, I remember this dish the following day, and I can easily think wow it was creamy but rich meat broth, and incredible flavors. Would have it again in a heartbeat, pay twice that for it. We both loved it. CONS: - The wine pairing was unexpectedly dry, for almost both menus throughout the meal (eg my dessert pairing was sweet). It was an odd choice, and we didn't feel like it amplified the courses at all. - Other than the tortellini, the dishes were well executed but didn't feel exciting. Like, I've had foie gras and salmon before, but I can't remember anything about the dishes that make them feel super standouting. My wife liked the crab in the salad but the sauce was too sweet. Overall, it's a great restaurant, but at this price tag I think we were looking for more from the food, and were disappointed by the wine pairing choices (though the sommelier was very nice personably).
My boyfriend brought me (his 'copine,' hehe) to this lovely restaurant as a surprise for my 30th birthday. For dine-in, reservations are required and can be booked weeks ahead, but we were lucky enough to catch a last-minute cancelation. The minute we walked in we were greeted warmly - without any pretentiousness - which holds true for the heart of Ballard. There is currently a three-course prix fixe menu (with an optional additional mid course, and wine pairings). Each course has a limited 2-3 choices, including vegetarian options, which seems to rotate very frequently. Between the two of us, we tried almost everything off of the menu. Overall, my favorite dishes were the foie gras with waffle and berry gelée starter, the beef entree with zucchini-wrapped crab and baby potatoes, and the blackberry mousse with anise ice cream and granola. The sablefish in broth, and the pasta mid course, were a little simple in flavor, but overall still well executed. Warning, I would definitely only try the savory grilled cheese finish if you LOVE blue cheese... but that's subjective. There is some added fun with a few surprise hor d'oeuvres from the chef. I won't ruin them all, but I will say that would go back again just for the brioche rolls. (My boyfriend joked and wondered if we could take a bread basket to go.) Most of all, everyone on staff was extremely welcoming, friendly, and knowledgeable. Tables were spaced safely and staff wore masks, and yet it did not feel at all like "COVID times." I would recommend Copine if you're looking for a classy, charming, yet laid back and zen place for any special occasion and smaller group setting.
My husband and I have been three times now and always have an amazing meal. The ambience is peaceful and charming. Service is absolutely fanatic - the staff explain things well, are detail oriented, and they offer great recommendations. This is one of our favorite pre fix menu restaurants. It's easy to eat vegetarian or pescatarian here but there are always meat options too. Food light, creatively balanced, and beautifully presented. Wine pairings are better than the cocktails imo but we love trying everything. Enjoy!
What. A. Dreamy. Meal. I'll be thinking about this meal and wine pairing for quite some time! What a delightful dinner - every bite and sip were so tasty and thoughtful. Started out with a little amuse and soup followed by a delicious brioche and it just continued on with courses that continued to wow (see photos)! We added on a hen egg for the mid course and it was so worth it - if you're contemplating adding a mid course, just do it. The mushrooms beneath the egg were just to die for! I suggest that you get different plates than your dining companion to ensure you can try all the bites of the evening. Each wine pairing went so well with each of the course and it was just perfection for the entirety of the meal. Will be singing high praises of this place to any and all who will listen - so so tasty and the servers were so knowledgeable and lovely. Can't wait to come back with each turn of the season! So dreamy. Yum.
A really great dining experience in the Ballard neighborhood of Seattle. The restaurant has a nice classy feel, the service is exceptional and prices (about $50 - $75 pp) are reasonable for the quality of the food (more on that below). No wonder this restaurant has such a high average Yelp rating. BTW, the presentation for all of the dishes are A+, just look at the pics. The risotto is perfect in every way, Chef Ramsey would have no problem if he was at the pass. It's perfectly cooked, not too buttery and right amount of cream. Really good balance. The scallops was amazing, never had a such a good searing before. It's browned to the maximum without being blackened and the inside is still moist. Don't how they solved this paradox. To top this off, it's served with locally sourced mushrooms and veggies. The rabbit was very interesting, the meat really tasted like chicken and didn't have a gamely flavor. Very moist and soft. Highly recommended.

Just amazing! I do have a warning though: portions are small!! We had the crab salad appetizer which was very good, and the hearts of palm one which was good but not worth the money. For entre I had the halibut, perfectly cooked but small. The Sauce and veggies it sat on were very good to. And now for dessert: the tapioca coconut dessert was the best I ever had...and I've had many :) Overall a really nice meal, beautifully presented, but rather small and expensive. read more

I had truly the most delicious, incredible meal of my life at Copine! My main course - Salmon with crispy skin, leek, and beet - was so beautifully presented and truly delicious. Very buttery and melted in my mouth. The crispy skin reminded me of the crispy edges of crepes. The sauce was just amazing too. The pain purdu had my boyfriend and I both scraping our plates for every last drop, it was so good. The dining room also has a nice, relaxed, romantic ambiance to it. I will absolutely be visiting again. read more
4.5 stars After much research, I booked Copine for our fine dining night during the trip. What a wonderful find, absolutely enjoyable and memorable, thank you Yelp! The place is modern, clean, elegant and unpretentious, fairly busy on a Tuesday evening which explained the confirmation text we received on the road a couple of days before. Our waiter was very pleasant and attentive, spoke softly with an European accent. There were many wait staff and the kitchen was super clean, well staffed as well. The hostess / owner lady was warm and welcoming, she also made sure that everything is running as smoothly as possible. We pretty much followed the recommendations of our waiter with wine and food, everything was excellent. We had tomato salad and foie gras for appetizers, the dishes were stunning to look at and delicious with distinct tastes in each and every bite. The rack of lamb and scallops were both master pieces; not only the proteins were perfectly seasoned and cooked, the vegetables and sauces were also wonderfully paired. The only ingredient on the dish we didn't love was the garbanzo beans. We also shared a desert which was fine and not too heavy. The only nitpicks we had were the tightness of all the two people tables in a row and a longer wait between our starters and main courses. Very impressive for a one year old restaurant, highly recommended. read more

Unforgettable dining experience - blown away. Delicious food done beautifully. Made reservations for my birthday and was beyond delighted. Thoughtful menu features a half dozen starters and mains - fantastic composition, flavors, texture, plating. Elegant, understated - great for date night. STARTERS + Foie gras terrine - even if you prefer traditional preparation, this version was incredible. Wonderfully creamy foie perched atop dashi gelée, black sesame, apple - delicate notes cutting through the richness of the foie. + Black truffle risotto with parmesan mousseline - DIVINE, indulgent. Boyfriend enjoys good pasta and polished this clean. Parm crema added an unexpected piquant note, balancing the truffle + Cervelas (Portugese sausage) - hearty, savory, perfect for sharing. Dressed with black truffle and pistachio, served on top of French green lentils - Hearts of palm salad - served with beets three-ways, golden beets, red beets and beet chips. Beautiful presentation, refreshing and light. Loved the beets but found the palm hearts a bit bland MAINS + Pan-seared halibut - MUST-ORDER. Melt-in-your-mouth, flaky to perfection. Dressed with creamy brandade (salt cod / evoo emulsion), fava beans, shaved radish, ramp aigre-doux + Rack of lamb - handsome and delicious. Served with tabouleh, tomato confit, artichokes, pine nuts, lamb jus + Pithiviers de Canard - duck confit wrapped in puff pastry (reminiscent of beef wellington but with duck!) A beautiful dish, savory without being too heavy. Duck was tender and flavorful, dressed with cherries, pistachio - Caramelized scallops - the scallops were fresh and sweet, but a bit gummy DESSERTS + Vanilla coconut tapioca - Tropics on a plate. Light and refreshing, fruit flavors and textures worked beautifully together - loved the candied macadamia nuts (so good!), candied pineapple, lightly finished with coconut sorbet + Dark chocolate gateau - Passion on a plate. Indulgent, intense, full-bodied. Topped with feuilletine (love!), caramelized banana, peanut butter ice cream Copine awaits to delight and satisfy. Reservations highly recommended. read more
We dined at Copine for the first time with a couple of close friends who have been there before. I had read good reviews in the past, so I was looking forward to it. The location in North Ballard has a garage and a good supply of easy street parking on the midweek day we were there. The interior is attractive and comfortable. The modern decoration style is sparse but not industrial, and despite the style the noise level was reasonable at all times and we could hear each other easily. Service was at all times flawless. The server was friendly and helpful, and attentive to our needs at all times. I was only drinking water, and yet my small glass (without ice, sadly) was kept constantly refilled. The pace of the meal was leisurely, without any rush allowing us to have an extended conversation. We also stayed quite late and there was no pressure to leave. Very hospitable. The quality of the food and presentation is great. We found delicate flavours, interesting combinations and flawless preparation spanned all courses. Everything was plated beautifully, with a great attention to detail and attractive, artistic layout. None of the dishes were amazing from my perspective. These is extremely well-executed food that didn't excite or surprise me. I added photos of all our dishes. The selection of dishes is quite limited - 6 appetizers, 8 entrees and 4 desserts. There were only 2 dishes I was excited about in each section, so I probably wouldn't return too often. The diversity of dishes is quite good. As others have noted, there is quite a problem with the portion sizes here, as often at this type of restaurant. The appetizers were tiny, which was frustrating as my appetizer (Foie Gras Terrine) was the best of the three courses, but in very limited supply. My main course (lamb) was a bit better sized, but the accompanying sides were again quite limited. Only the dessert (Pot de Crème) really came in a portion size that matched expectation and price. The bill was surprisingly high. Over $115/per person for a group that had one bottle of wine and 1 other drink, plus a 3 course meal. I've paid a lot more for great meals that justified their cost, and a lot less than this for amazing cuisine. Ultimately, 3 stars is a compromise between the good (food, presentation, service), and the bad (price, portion size, selection of dishes). I would probably go back again at the suggestion of friends, but not of my own accord. Still, it was a nice evening out. read more
Superb, memorable to the nth. I've waited over 2 years, to dine here. When the legendary Book Bindery closed its doors, it left a void in my soul, yep. Now that Shaun Macrain has opened his restaurant, I have begun to exhale. It is a trek to come here. On the outskirts of NW Seattle it took me 30 min to go 4 miles from Lake Union... traffic in Seattle is a mini Manila--it crawls like a serpent. But drive here, it's worth it. The space at Copine is modern yet comfortable, it's got dimly lit spaces so pictures come grainy after sundown unless you wanna freak out the next table and use flash. Definitely has a design palette of warm tones of modern wood, as though you are dining in a modern home. To describe each dish is MM; the photos capture the plates I experienced. Visits: 1 Verdict: Loved it. Coming back. Tip: Gluten free options on the menu. Vie for the few parkingspots in the underground, enter on 65 NW. read more

AWFUL. Oh my god this place was so terrible. The service was awful, the food was awful, it was so overpriced. I do food reviews and I gave them a totally honest review (was even way nicer than they deserved) and they BLOCKED me. This place is honestly a scam. If you want fine dining in Seattle just go with canlis, Eden hill, literally anywhere but here. We paid 600$ for three people (none of us had alcohol) and were served food literally anyone could make. It was under seasoned, the gnocchi was tough and dense, the carpaccio was served in a big wet messy pile, ughhh honestly reliving the disappointment rn. STAY AWAY. read more
Such a great dining experience! We were celebrating a special occasion but after reading reviews and looking at the menu online, I chose to reserve bar seats over the main dining room. On Wednesday's and Thursday's only they serve a separate bar menu alongside the regular menu and the options looked really good! Sitting at the bar, although more casual, was a great experience. It was fun watching the drinks being made and the bartender was always checking in on us. In fact, all the service was really great, from the waitress to the table runners. It really seemed like everyone there takes pride in what they do. For drinks I had an aperol spritz and my boyfriend ordered their special old fashioned. Both were really good! They even use special house smoked cherries in their old fashioned and he said it was one of the best he's ever had. To start the meal they brought us their house bread and a salmon puff amuse bouche! Both were amazing and a great start to the meal. We also shared the pork belly dish (delicious pairing of crispy and succulent pork belly and strawberries), a fish crudo that was probably my favorite dish of the night, the salmon special, and fried chicken! These were all technically "shared plates" but the servings were very generous! They ended the night with comped glasses of rose since we were celebrating a special occasion, which was a really nice touch. read more

We came here for our anniversary dinner and it was spectacular! We each ordered different courses, and added the pre-entree, as well as the wine pairing. Yes - it's expensive, but if you research your restaurants before you go - there should be no surprises here. Each and EVERY dish was constructed beautifully and the flavors were so fun and inventive. The salmon was the BEST I've ever had; it literally tasted like they caught it minutes before bringing it to me. The sommelier was in her game and easily subbed my wines for versions that were more accommodating to my specific pallet - which was very much appreciated! And her knowledge of each and every one was so fun to hear And learn about. And I'm SOOOOO glad I bought a jar of their smoked cherries!!!! They were worth driving the hour and 15 minutes to the restaurant for those alone! Can't wait to make a Manhattan with them! We will definitely be back! You will definitely be full when you leave here! read more

High end vibe with a view of a beautifully polished and gleaming kitchen. Chefs seemed very confident and none were stressed or rushing around. We received an tasty amuse bouche along with our cocktails. My cocktail (pamplemousse) was great. Nice balance of sweetness-bitter. To start I had the burrata and artichoke salad which was delicious. Amazing flavor balance. The bread rolls they serve are also incredible. My main was the only let down. I ordered scallops and while they were beautifully tender and had a nice caramelization, they were too salty! I literally had to scrape salt off the top of them and even then they were too salty. I didn't send them back because I hate the thought of food being chucked in the bin but it did rather ruin my enjoyment of them. I will caveat that with the fact I'm British and often find food in Seattle/America a little too salty. We split their chocolate crepe cake dessert which was great. Service was attentive yet low key. There were no main vegetarian options just to flag. read more
Wow! One of the best fine dining restaurants in Seattle. I'd been wanting to go here for a while after always driving past it on my way to Ballard and I'm so glad I finally went! I went for the Sunday night prix fixe menu to be a little adventurous. It was all so amazing, the risotto was probably my favorite such intense but balanced flavors and beautiful colors! At a place like this they might use some weird ingredients but you just have to trust them, they know what they're doing and it will be amazing no matter what. Highly recommend the Sunday prod fixe - definitely want to come again for it or to try the standard menu. read more
Everything about our experience at Copine was nothing short of fantastic. The service was wonderful and the food so well plated and executed. Every dish was so precise in flavor and presentation and we whole-heartedly enjoyed our experience. Posts about this place being too expensive?? Yeah Canlis and Ascend are expensive... I think Copine is priced reasonably for an extremely well done dinner in the Seattle restaurant scene. I recommend trying the foie gras terrine for an app, and the pithiviers (puff pastry), valley farms rabbit or "steak and eggs" for a main course. read more
If you're looking for upscale dining in Ballard, Copine is your spot! I didn't know what to expect when dining at Copine but it had been on my list for a while. Upon arrival, the hostess was so polite and told us to sit anywhere at the bar. There we were greeted by by bartender and restaurants sommelier! He gave great recommendations on dinner and beverages. We ordered a mix of items on the bar menu and the regular menu! The scallops was by far my favorite followed by the hamachi crudo. What I really loved besides the wonderful staff, was that they carry one of my favorite Greek wines! This place is a must visit! read more
What a delight! Copine is a bit of a ways to get to and is in a brand new complex, but it is well worth the trek to get here! The interior is minimalistic, yet chic and cozy. It sort of reminds me of the Book Bindery in terms of ambiance and atmosphere! Great service, yet not overwhelming and still sort of casual. We ordered almost one of everything on the menu - for a party of 3. If we could put down everything, we probably would've but we tried almost everything we could. But the desserts, do yourself a favor and get one of everything cause they were delicious! The apple tartine, the lemongrass panna cotta, and the chocolate caramelized banana with coconut sorbet were all AMAZING! If I had to do it again, I'd get all the desserts all over again! So much flavor and such unique combinations that is just a taste bud overload! The panna cotta is tart but it awakens all the tastebuds. My favorite would be the chocolate caramelized banana with coconut sorbet.. such a great combination. So to the main dishes.. do get the ahi crudo.. this was my favorite dish of the night. The foie gras you can't go wrong with either.. melt in your mouth delicious and rich! Just a perfect stack of foie gras and jam.. Thought the spelt Risotto, crab pumpkin bisque and the scotch egg was underwhelming compared to everything else, especially the bisque cause it was overly sweet.. but the tartare, the hearts of palm, the halibut, the duck confit in pastry, the pork belly and the lamb were all perfection! Been a long time fan of Chef McCrain cooking from his Book Bindery days, only had two chances to try out Copine, and both experience was amazing, one of the best restaurants in Seattle in my opinion. Its a very pretty restaurant with a nice view of the kitchen on the corner of 65th and 24th in Ballard, finding parking on the street isn't too hard. Though there are a lot of table seating, its generally all reserved on a weekend night, there are 12 bar counter seating that is first come first serve if you are like me and come in randomly. There is also a room for private group dinning. Only be in twice once when it just open and a few years later, and sat at the bar both times. The service is has been great each time, the bartender has great recommendations on cocktail and wines, and even remember me after all the years. The food is superb, got the hamachi crudo and the special of the night, waygu rib cap. For every diner, they give a special amuse bouche of tempura salmon belly with salmon roe, and a freshly baked house made bread. The portion size is a little bit on the smaller end, and they are fairly pricey, but for the quality of the food, I don't mind it. read more

So pleased with our dining experience at Copine. Welcome with an amuse bouche salmon fritter topped with roe and creme fraiche followed by Hallam bread with sea salt and rosemary, I knew we were in for a good meal! Started with the butternut squash soup, rich, delicious full of flavor, texture; and the soft poached egg, rich, yet light, flavorful and perfectly cooked egg and noodles. Ordered the rack of lamb served with a lamb sausage stuffed corn bread (yum! And perfectly cooked lamb), and the scallops (again, perfectly cooked and full of flavor). Each dish is full flavor, textures and temperatures as appropriate. Thoroughly enjoyed this meal! Good wine selection and full bar (although cocktail list is mostly dark liquors). No room for dessert this time but will definitely be back! Also had wonderful service from greeting to end. read more
Never visited the celebrated Book Bindery, but definitely glad to have dined at Copine this evening to celebrate a college friend's birthday (9/9/16). Reservations are imperative! Definitely, it was a major plus to have no previous knowledge or expectation about the culinary journey we were about to embark on. I am totally receptive to potentially being dazzled by culinary creations. Interaction with the reception and wait staff was very welcoming, genuine, and polished. Even sneaking glances at the open view kitchen, the staff appeared calm, focused, and in sync. There were additional things I noticed that are usually reserved for fine dining, which I won't drone on about. Essentially that overall attention to detail, remaining approachable not fussy, paired with phenomenal service and culinary execution made for a top notch dining experience. Onward.... Seated with menus and beverage list, we perused the choices for starters and main entrées. Best introduction to prime the taste buds, we were each given a amuse bouche creation on a special fork, salmon topped with roe, creme fraiche and chives.. This was followed with an amazing savory roll and butter. There is a full bar, wine and cocktail list. I opted for a refreshing iced tea ($4)which was kindly served with a slice of lemon and simple syrup. No gritty sugar crystals here! For the starters, the birthday celebrant selected the most visually stunning dish I've seen in awhile, Hawaiian Hearts of Palm ($14) with young carrots, coconut, and ginger aigre-doux (sweet and sour profile). I had the Warm Yukon Gold Potato Soup ($12) with confit potato 'parsienne', preserved black truffle and hen of the woods mushrooms. Excellent with the savory roll and butter. The hen of the woods mushrooms and hint of truffle was the exclamation points with this starter. For the main entrees, Seared Halibut ($28) was the chosen one by the birthday celebrant. This also featured tomato raisins, nicoise olives, and artichokes. She especially liked the elongated bread baton provided with the tomato and olives. Without hesitation, I selected the Crispy Skin Sablefish ($28). Usually I've had sablefish marinated in sake, but this preparation had picked vegetables and a bonito consommé poured directly when served. I enjoy fish and seafood and in my youth fished, dug, jigged, dealt with crab pots. Knowing what goes into that effort, one really is saddened when something is overcooked. This sablefish was superior...tender, moist, and the skin was crisped and seasoned to perfection! The bonito consommé was great, just trying to spoon up the dregs in such a shallow bowl was a challenge. Every component totally worked. For dessert, our server was very kind and brought out the Peach Melba ($10) with a birthday candle. This was created with King's Garden peaches, frozen vanilla cream, and raspberries. The vanilla cream was really frozen, a bit of effort to eat. Maybe served with an ice pick next time, just kidding. Our server highly recommended the Lemongrass Panna Cotta ($10) when I couldn't quite decide which dessert to indulge in. She totally nailed it and had all the components I remembered from plating desserts in another lifetime. The delicate panna cotta had a canele of passionfruit sorbet, which was surrounded by kaffir lime syrup. This was topped with an amazing macadamia nut tuile. The photo I took of this dessert doesn't do it justice. The sweet/sour, subtle/assertive, delicate/crunchy was absolutely a high point coming from this former assistant pastry chef. I would have loved to linger longer with a Stumptown French Press. Seriously the interior and ambiance is very condusive to truly savoring your meal and enjoying the company you are with. But the birthday celebrant wanted to catch some sleep for more adventures the next day. I rank this among the most memorable meals I've had in the past year on par with Vendemmia, Seven Beef, and Girin. Simply outstanding, Copine should be on anyone's dining list. Awesome experience! We went on the recommendation of some friends, and it definitely exceeded our expectations. We made dinner reservations, but some of our friends said that their bar menu is actually better than a lot of things on their main menu, and you can order anything off their main menu at the bar, so we decided to arrive early to try out their beef tartare and rabbit pasta in the bar area. The restaurant wasn't super busy, so they said we were more than welcome to just stay at the bar instead of moving to a table - so we did. In addition to the bar bites, we ordered the rabbit, duck breast, and risotto. The star of the night was actually the rabbit pasta off the bar menu, with the duck breast as a close second. Based on our experience - and the fact you can order anything off the main menu in addition to the bar menu- I'd recommend doing bar seating for a party of 2! I believe the bar menu is only available Tue-Thu, but it is truly a great deal and has amazing options. read more

The food at Copine was so delicious!! I was lucky to eat there for my birthday :) I had rabbit for the first time and let's just say that I will have it again. The dish was exquisite! My husband had wagyu beef and he loved it! Their house bread was to die for. I would buy their bread if they were for sale ;) Compliments to the chef! We will definitely be back! (*^_^*) read more

Fantastic! Food was delicious, service was incredible, and they have a great atmosphere. It's fine dining without the stuffiness (no dress code for example). Great cocktails as well. Started off with a Dungeness crab salad and then pithiviers de canard (duck in a pastry) for my main. I'll definitely be returning. read more

The Copine should be a required stop for anyone in Seattle who loves exquisite food. The meal was absolutely perfect, very memorable. First, there was a complimentary appetizer, a little fried ball of cheese on this odd utensil that was heavenly. I could have ordered a tray of those--great way to start the meal. The complimentary bread roll was also very good. For the appetizer, I had the pork belly with apple butter and onions. I read good reviews about a few of the appetizers like the potato soup, but I cannot imagine anything much better. The pork just melted in my mouth and the apple butter was a perfect pairing. For the main course, I ordered the ribeye. The choices here are brutal to make here. Everything looked good. The steak was delicious and the cut was unique. It was tender and tasted wonderful. The sides were beans and this potato/onion dish and they matched the steak just right. For dessert I ordered the cheese plate. It was just one kind of cheese, but ended the meal just right. Reservations can be tough to get, but I will see I definitely be back. read more

Super solid night at Copine. The food is really well thought our with very strong execution. Service was very good overall, weakest spot that night seemed to be the hostess who seemed a little overwhelmed despite the fact that it was not particularly slammed. The waitress was excellent. We brought an old Bordeaux and she treated it as well as I would have, carefully decanting and just taking the time to treat it properly. Food was great, only hiccup was the rabbit was slightly over and because of that was a bit dry. Really a great meal overall and definitely will be back. read more
I am going to critique this restaurant like I do fine dining experiences. That is what this restaurant was all about. We booked a table for Friday afternoon about a couple of weeks in advance. A day to our reservation, they called and confirmed the reservation. We got there 5 minutes early and were promptly seated. So as far as reservation and on time seating, they did a really good job. Interior was interesting. The waiting area was separated from the dining area with a decorative door. Probably could add a little bit more warmth to the decoration. Modern, but a little bit lifeless in some areas. The ventilation was their big downside. I could smell fried and burned food and my throat started hurting. They had really good ventilation system, or at least that is what it looked like based on the huge ventilation ducts, but they were not working efficiently. The menu is concise, few starters and mains. All sounded very appetizing. Based on the recommendation of our fellow yelpers, we ordered the fois gras to share. Also got the duck, and the halibut. Our cocktails were served first, very strong and tasted really good. We were also greeted with a finger food which was deep fried salmon. Delicious ... Fois gras was really good. Plating was spectacular. Not the best I have had, because as soon as I put it in my mouth, I reminisced about one I had had in Mackenzie room in Vancouver and that one was the absolute winner. The duck and the halibut were both amazing. The aroma of the basil with halibut was so good. We finished off with the strawberry shortcake and that was the best dish of the day. The amazing panna cotta, then a layer of basil jelly, and then the softest strawberry ice cream in a beautifully plated dish. It was a perfect finish to a pleasant dining experience. Overall, I really enjoyed our dining experience. Price tag, for what they were offering was fair. read more

Yes! Yes! A thousand times Yes! No more really needs to be said than that. -- Food: sublime. -- Service: perfectly balanced. -- Ambiance: casual elegance. -- Noisiness: no problems hearing my husband or the waiter. -- Price: not cheap but not out of line, considering the quality. -- Parking: we got lucky and found free street parking nearby, but they may validate for those who park in the garage, as the host asked us if we parked in the garage. If you're looking for a special night out, an exceptional culinary experience of a very high caliber, a feast for the eyes (the chef has amazing plating skills!), at prices that are reasonable for food prepared and presented at this level, then this is a must-try restaurant. Can't afford one of the $$$$ restaurants with 4.5 to 5 stars? Then Copine is for you. You won't be missing out on anything. P.S. Everything tasted divine, but the Butternut Squash Soup with whipped red onion crème fraîche was a standout. So was the Peanut Butter Ice Cream Bouchon. read more

I was very disappointed in my meal. The foie gras was puréed into custard form and a play on Creme brûlée, unfortunately it did not work. It was a very rich and filling dish, and that was the first course. Also, wine pairing did not work with that dish. Second (shrimp and grits) and third (halibut) courses were ok, but did not wow me. The dessert was disappointing as well bc it wasn't sweet and it didn't leave me wanting more. For the price, I was very disappointed and I was celebrating my wedding anniversary. read more
