We ate here when we traveled through Safford, so I don't know if we hit an off night. The booth tables were sticky and greasy. It looked as old as the building is. That doesn't usually keep me away because you never know, food might be good. We ordered the Prime Rib at $31 each. It tasted like the cook had pre cooked some, and left it on the grill to stay warm. When we got our meal, it had been blasted with heat to make it look nice and crusty on the outside. When we attempted to cut the meat it was like sawing on shoe leather. We had ordered rare, but it was barely pink on the inside. It was very obvious that it had been precooked, and maybe not that day. I don't begrudge a restaurant raising prices, I know it hasn't been easy for a lot of them. But if you are going to charge me that much money I think the meat should have been edible. Are you kidding me? Just because you are a small town doesn't mean that you can have spectacularly horrible service. I went the first Monday in July and it was not crowded at all. So the lousy meal I had was completely uncalled for. When I arrived I was asked if I wanted to sit in the saloon or the dining area. I let the hostess know that I would sit wherever they preferred. She sat me in the saloon so I thought that I'd be taken care of. I was sadly mistaken. I sat at my table for almost 30 minutes before someone took my drink order. I was literally waving my arms around trying to get someones attention as the people seated at other tables were being serviced. I would have left if I'd known about any other place to eat but I was hungry and too tired to search for another location. When the waitress (who was not working in the saloon) came to take my drink order I ordered my food at the same time. It took a while for my food to come but I was, at that point, too famished to check the time. When my food arrived I was pleasantly surprised that it was decent. The steak was cooked to my specifications. It was nicely seasoned and pretty yummy. Shortly after bringing my meal a waitress checked on me and I told her everything was OK. I then cracked open a book and read while I enjoyed my meal. It didn't take me long to eat because, as previously mentioned I was famished. When I was done with my meal I pushed my plate away and set my credit card on the corner of the table. Two universal signs for "I'm ready to go". 20 minutes later no one had come over to clear my plate or take my money or even check to make sure I hadn't choked on my steak and perished. I played the try to catch a waitress' eye game for a while, flapped my arms around a while then looked at the time. It had been nearly two hours since I'd walked into that place. Needless to say, I was sufficiently annoyed. I had to walk up to the bar to pay. And I had to go out of my way to get someones attention at the bar. I have never been treated so poorly at a restaurant. I was absolutely livid. When I paid, I, for the first time in my entire life, did not leave a tip. I feel like I should have been paid for the extra flipping time I spent there. I take consolation in the fact that I got a mini workout with all of the flapping my arms around to get someones attention. I seriously hope that this was a fluke and that the people that work there are not truly that crappy. read more

My husband and I had dinner here because he said it was the best place in town. He has been working out of town (we live in Las Vegas) all summer and I drove here so we could spend some much-needed time together. We ordered our drinks, and waited fifteen minutes for them to arrive. It was Friday evening, and we were seated in the "saloon", and could see that the bartender was busy. When the drinks finally arrived, they were good so I let the time we waited go. We ordered our food when she brought the drinks. As we sat in the bar waiting for our food, we noticed staff members congregating behind the bar. I heard the manager ask why there were more than just the bartender behind the bar, but didn't notice any of them move out from behind the bar. I didn't really think about that until later, however. I went to the ladies room while we were waiting for our food. The soap dispenser was gross. It appeared to have been refilled more than once, because the soap inside (it was NOT a commercial grade dispenser, just the cheap see-through kind you buy at the dollar store) was separating and had floating flakes suspended in it. Plus, no towels for drying my hands. Altogether disgusting. (My husband reported no paper towels in the men's room either.) I have never written such a long review, but bear with me because all of this needs to be said in the hope that the Copper Steer reads it and sees areas they can improve. The staff was nice, but nice staff doesn't carry a restaurant if everything else is awful. Anyway, we waited an hour for our food, and when it arrived, it was nasty. My sirloin was cold, tough, and tasted terrible. My baked potato was cold. The zucchini was yummy!! And thankfully, my husband's ribs weren't too bad so I didn't go hungry. I brought the bad steak to the attention of the manager, and she removed the price from the check. The thing is, the steak was $14 on the menu; she took $9 off the bill. Guess keeping a customer wasn't worth giving away a baked potato and some sautéed zucchini. Unbelievable. So.... Live and learn. We won't be returning to the Copper Steer, but I hope they see this review and make some improvements. As I said, the staff was friendly and seemed to understand my complaint. Well, I read the reviews and was forewarned but the options in Safford are slim, so we tried it anyway. My husband and I both ordered the NY Strip with baked potato and asparagus. My steak was okay; flavor wasn't bad and it was reasonably tender for $22. My baked potato, on the other hand, needed another 45 minutes in the oven because it definitely was raw in the middle and hard as a rock. The asparagus was perfectly cooked and delicious. My husband's steak unfortunately, although the same cut allegedly, was a pile of tendons, fat and gristle. When he tried to cut it, it just strung apart as if it was an accordion. His baked potato was perfect as was the asparagus. The waitress was attentive and timely, but with a steak like that coming out of the kitchen there wasn't much to talk about. It's highly unlikely that we'll give it a second shot because his steak was just hideous. read more

I don't know where to begin or how to start other then to say I had a horrible experience. The server took forever to fill up my Pepsi which I thought was odd as this was a high end restaurant. Second I ordered ribs and they were dry and tough. I lost my appetite when I saw one of the cooks (Hispanic looking dude clean cut no hat) keep the same pair of gloves on as he touched uncooked chicken and beef (major health hazard). I am a big boy and so when I left 3/4 of my ribs on the plate and didn't even take them home, that tells you how disgusted I was as what I saw, felt, and tasted. Sadly Copper Steer came highly recommended by my co-workers but I will not be returning or recommending this cow pasture. read more

Best burgers in the area. Meat quality is way better than anywhere else. They are properly seasoned, juicy, free of gristle, delicious. My most recent burger had super tough bacon on it. They have room to improve there, but it's not enough of an issue for me to lower the rating. The burgers are a great value too. My wife got the salmon with scallops. Scallops were tender and delicious. Salmon was moist and properly cooked. I have never had moist salmon in Graham County before! This place has flipped their kitchen from terrible to legitimately good. If you've had bad experiences there in the past, I highly recommend giving them a try now. Wait times are still high, but at least you get great food. Men's room doesn't have a diaper changing station. But the women's room does. Maybe they plan on providing Dads with a female diaper changer. read more

Food is always amazing I recently had the spicy cheese sticks which were so flavorful and crispy they were so good. I also ordered the lobster and shrimp it was so perfectly cooked and seasoned very delicious as well. Also came back in tonight to try the hot wings which are my new favorites in town! I am a steak eater and griller, so I know steaks. Also, I know where I was when I walked into Copper Steer Steakhouse. I was in Safford Arizona, not NYC, not Chicago, not Kansas City. With that in mind I give this place 4 stars. Because for where it is, it more than met my expectations. I was not expecting Ruth Chris, or Smith and Wollenski's or Morton's or Harry Carey's. I got a pretty decent steak in a small town off the beaten path. I ordered the 12 oz rib eye and I got a 12 oz rib eye. It was cooked as ordered and did have a nice mesquite smoke flavor. The accompanying sweet potato was small disappointment. The salad bar was rather meager. The beer was nice and cold, served in a chilled mug. The corn side dish was flavorful, but not anything I could not repeat at home with a simple turn of the can opener. A couple of my 6 co diners, raved that it was the best steak they had ever had. I kept my mouth shut, I assumed as an international diner, with the pounds around the midsection to prove it, that I had had a deeper grilled steak experience than they had. Will I go there again? Sure. Is it the best steak I have ever had - no, not close. I also don't doubt that it is the best steak around for a 100 miles. read more

12/17/2021. My husband and I were looking forward to a nice dinner and atmosphere for my birthday. Copper Steer sorely lacked both. The food was the worst either of us have ever experienced eating out. The appetizer items were soggy and tasted awful. The brisket I ordered was terrible. My husband ordered baby back ribs which were okay but nothing special. We will never return to this restaurant. There was a large party of 17 in another room, so maybe we were given leftovers? We went to Safford for a Saturday day trip. We stopped to eat here because of the local recommendations. When we arrived we were impressed with the rustic western decor. The waitress was friendly. We ordered two burgers and I was told we couldn't have it rare because of the burger had to be cooked to a certain temperature. We went ahead and order it medium, along with bacon. Our food came out at an acceptable time frame, however it was a over cooked beyond medium. But we were so hungry we went ahead and ate it. The bacon was extremely over cooked, it was almost bacon jerky. We had to remove the bacon from our burger in order to eat it. The fries were spectacular and the flavor of the over cooked bacon and burger was good. The food hinted of the mesquite fire pit grill they cooked it on. We showed up saturday early afternoon, and there seemed to be only one waitress actually working out of 3-4 other waitresses. She had 4 big tables by herself and no other waitresses to be found. I had to find her to get more coca cola, which to me is no big deal since I knew she was busy. The next time we saw her it was when we flagged her down for the check. Im not going to give bad marks to the waitress and her slow service since she was busy and seem to have no help. I will give bad marks to management since they clearly had no backup for her. I could have given the food hire marks if it werent overcooked when it was served to us. I think it should be an option to have the burger cooked to order. I like my burger medium rare and a steak house should offer that service in my opinion. If your looking to try a steak house with a cool theme and excellent fries. I would recommend this place and only if they straighten out there waitressing schedule and table assignment. I would specifically make a point to ask not have them over cook the food. read more

On the weekend of 12/03/21, I was in Safford for the weekend visiting a friend. My friend had other plans for that night so I decided to take my mom to The Copper Steer Steakhouse in Safford, AZ. I own a steakhouse, up north, and when I go out to other restaurants I will give them a chance but my experience at your restaurant that Friday night was the worse that I have ever experienced!!! When we arrived no one acknowledged us, it was 10 minutes after that, that the hostess asked how many was in our party and sat us. Once we were sat it took the server about 20 minutes to come to our table. We ordered some drinks from the bar and that took another 20 minutes and in between the other server felt sorry for us and gave us some bread. We had also asked for water when we ordered the bar drinks and we had to keep asking her for the water. We ordered the Steak and Lobster Tail dinner with veggies and baked potatoes but when we got our food it was without the Lobster Tail and had the loaded mashed potatoes instead of the baked potatoes and it was over an hour that we had to wait for our food. When the server served us our plates she said nothing about the Lobster Tails and said "oh you guys are getting loaded mashed potatoes", instead of telling us that they were out of baked potatoes and asking what other side we would want. When a customer orders their food at a restaurant isn't it their decision to choose their side and not the server to decide for them? When the server finally came back to our table again I had to mention to her that we didn't get the Lobster Tail and she kind of giggled and said "oh you guys won't be charged for it". When I did get the bill we were charged for a 14oz instead of what should have been a 7oz because that is what the menu said came with the Steak and Lobster Tail dinner. When we finally got our food after over an hour my mom and I were pretty much full with all the bread they kept giving us so needless to say we didn't eat much of the steak and my mom ended getting a to go box for most her steak. At that point I was so annoyed and just wanted to pay my bill and get out of there. I'm sorry but this is no way to run a restaurant!!! You either need to train your employees better about customer service or close down. I have had problems in the recent past with being under staffed at my restaurant but I still make sure that my customers get the best customer service. It's all about the customers and their experience at the restaurant!!! It wasn't the quantity that was the issue, just not the same with such a thin ribeye. $9 a glass seemed kinda steep for a Chardonnay. I love a good steak. I've never had a bad one yet. They are always cooked how I ask and come out hot and delicious. The rolls are good, the salads are good (when fresh). Although the last couple times I have gone there, they were out of their sweet tea. The waitress gave me a different tea than what I asked for, and I told her it wasn't the sweet tea. It was pretty good. Expensive. I had the salmon. Probably should have had the steak. The bar makes an excellent drink, a clamato, which is a Bloody Mary except the vodka is swapped out for dos Equis. It is amazing! I really didn't think I would like it but it's great. Good quality meat, in fact my sirloin was a huge baseball cut, good seasoning. The works on the baked potatoes looked very good, though I didn't allow myself to partake. Carrots were very flavorful. It did take quite awhile to get our food (Friday night), even with 2 guys operating the huge fire-pit. The room is fairly smoky, from what the hood can't handle, if one had breathing problems, it might not be a good idea to dine here. No dressing for the $2 side salads and I ordered horseradish which I'm sure they charged me for. I walked in to order take out because I waited 34 minutes on the phone prior to walking in. I was put on hold and no one came back with me to take my order. Then I checked my account I authorized $153.00 and the restaurant help themselves to $30 more. Whatever the issues were in 2014 that resulted in low reviews were, they have obviously been fixed. I figured seeing the open-flame wood-fired grill that there might be inconsistency in the cooking. I was so deliciously wrong. Every bite of the smoked prime rib was a perfect example of the medium-rare I ordered. The stuffed jalapeños were another pleasant surprise. Being New Mexican, we are hard critics of anything that involves chile. The jalapeños themselves were expectedly mild (no one does it like home) but they tasted fresh-picked and they were bigger than any we've had in Texas. The bacon wrap completing the dish was definitely something to write home about. Service was prompt and polite. Noise level was about what you'd expect from a down-home steakhouse. I use to love going here when they first opened. However the food is not the same. My steak was dry and the sides were tiny. Not to mention the service was awful. My waitress came to take our order, brought us our tiny side salads (with wrong dressing) and our food. We weren't even offered steak sauce or ketchup for the kids French fries. Then on top of all that they add a 15% hospitality charge. That was the worst part because I use to be a waitress and usually I leave more than 15%. I don't like being charged full price for poor hospitality. Especially on a slow Tuesday night with only 4 other occupied tables and an additional waitress. read more

Would never return to this place. Waitress had no idea what a gin and tonic was. She had to go ask the bartender if they had it. She returned and said yes the bartender could make it. We got gin and club soda! Next asked what the vegetable of the day was again the waitress had to go ask what they were serving. Our food came, vegies cold, steaks cooked perfect but bland- no seasoning not salt and pepper. About four-seriously, four bites into our dinner the waitress came by and asked if we wanted dessert?! We immediately said NO! And had to keep from laughing. She left and returned no more than 3mins later asking if we wanted anything else. Again we said No!
