Students with disabilities and additional needs are getting a raw deal because of lack of funding, staff shortages and programming cuts. Students are being taught by volunteers and subs. This is not educating children, it's barely even babysitting. So very sad as it could be a great school, but it's being slowly killed by mismanagement, understaffing, lack of programming and teachers who are overworked, underpaid and under appreciated.

It felt as though I had given birth to a little monster. Every day, the teacher complained about my son's behavior, saying he was running around, not sharing, jumping, and more. One day, we were asked to pick him up early, which was extremely stressful. We later met with his teacher and the principal to discuss a plan of action. Right away, I sensed an unsettling vibe from the kindergarten teacher. She claimed she was trying her best to help our son adjust, but stated that other kids also needed her attention. She also suggested we seek help from our physician regarding his behavior. Keep in mind that my son had attended daycare without any behavioral issues. My husband made an appointment with the doctor, who assured him that our son was perfectly fine and simply acting his age. While I was searching for a new school, we found one that reassured us about their staff's expertise. They informed us that their teachers had over 18 years of experience and that we wouldn't encounter the same problems we faced before. I am pleased to say they did not disappoint. My son enjoys going to school; we no longer have to bribe him. He has received a star every day for exhibiting great behavior without needing any redirection. One day, the school even allowed parents to come in and observe for a moment, and my son sat quietly like a pro. I truly believe the previous teacher was not equipped to handle kindergarten. The way she spoke about my child in front of me revealed a palpable dislike. Consequently, I removed my son from that toxic environment. Now, he is thriving in his new school, and his new teacher is wonderful!

This has been the most disappointing educational experience we have had…read more In my opinion, the current principal, John Bate, does not consistently make decisions that place students' best interests, safety, and educational needs first. There appears to be a lack of organization, inconsistent communication with parents regarding student concerns, and a pattern of decisions that many families have found frustrating. There have also been ongoing concerns from parents regarding school climate, fairness in decision-making, and whether all students are being supported equally. Several teachers and families have chosen to leave, which has raised additional concerns about stability and retention. Academically, I have concerns regarding the quality and rigor of some assignments. There were times materials appeared to come directly from Teachers Pay Teachers resources, and some assignments seemed below expected grade level standards. Parents should carefully review instructional materials and ask questions regarding curriculum alignment and academic expectations. I also encourage prospective families to ask questions about teacher certification status, staffing plans, student support systems, communication procedures, and administrative oversight. Many families remain because the school offers activities and athletic opportunities that are difficult to find elsewhere, which creates a challenging decision for parents. I do want to acknowledge that Dr. Roan appears committed to improving the school and creating positive change. However, in my opinion, meaningful improvement will require stronger leadership, greater accountability, improved communication, and a clearer focus on student outcomes. I strongly encourage prospective parents to speak directly with current families before enrolling. What appears positive from the outside may not fully reflect the day-to-day experience.

Wow, what can I say, I feel like we won the jackpot when we found Magellan. our daughter started in…read moreKindergarten and although she isn't very good at adapting or transitions, she immediately fell in love with her teachers and school friends.. There are no cliques and no bullying and when we have had issues we have raised them with the teachers and they have jumped on them to solve them immediately, and unlike other private schools there's no sense of entitlement from the parents or students. Also, because the school is so good at awarding scholarships not everyone is 'rich'! The school also has a great parent teacher association which offer weekly meet-ups and play dates as well as adult only events. Each class also has a WhatsApp chat group so parents can easily communicate with each other. If it sounds like one big happy family you'd be right, that's exactly what it feels like. In terms of academics my adhd child has thrived. Diagnosed at 4 we thought she would struggle but the school has been amazing at supporting her needs and accommodating her. They also offer many different seating types from a bouncy ball chair, to cushions on the floor and other such. It's very holistic and non political and offers many diverse ways of learning. They have a calming corner, encourage reading and emotional open communication as well many other ways of teaching emotional and academic intelligence. They teach in Spanish from day one and introduce Mandarin from 3rd grade, they also teach following the international Baccalaureate which is amazing. It teaches the children self confidence through weekly presentations and teaches them autonomy. Honestly this school is amazing and now it goes until 12th grade we are obsessed and so you will be too. But, sshh don't tell anyone about our secret slice of heaven.

Hands down, my husband and I feel it is best decision we have made for his education. Although it can be a bit pricey, we have felt that it has been worth every dollar. He is growing up to be a well spoken, well thought, caring little human. I love that he is bilingual, but I really love his open minded views and his eagerness to learn. The teachers... the teachers have all been so amazing. They are loving, caring and really take each student's personalities and abilities into consideration as they grow from year to year. As I said, it's not the cheapest option and we do discuss yearly if we will be renewing his tuition-- and, with each year this answer comes easier and easier with an astounding "YES". We love the school, the community, the parents and look forward to many more years at Magellan!
