Unfortunately they are now closed. The Realtor has a for lease sign up and inside remains the tropical colors. When they were open it was a huge shop just outside of all the craziness of the DC Metro in a tiny little rural town / farm area of Catharpin. Prices were good. People were good. Location was just 10-ish minutes off I-66. They had racks of wetsuits, shorties, BCs and had plenty of dive gear. They could work on your Regs, Octopus, and most gauges. They could get you a regular fill or a Nitrox fill and you could drop it off or get a sandwich from the gas station. They had training and refresher courses, quarry dives, pool dives, vacation dives in the tropics. There are only 2 good dive shops in the area that remain. Review for the shop: This shop is huge, their selection for all types of diving is excellent, and the staff there was friendly and better yet, informative on everything. They went above and beyond in answering all of my questions, including being able to tell me the mechanical details of how a regulator first stage (piston type) works, the pros and cons of each type of regulator, possible freezing temperature (unlikely but possible), air flow capacity etc... they were able to tell me the different types of BC's and all of their pros and cons... list goes on for everything I purchased. Now naturally, one would expect sales people to be attentive, sure, but they were educators first and salespeople second. I never was pushed, just helped and I'm satisfied with everything that I purchased. They helped me assemble my regulator first and second stage, and hoses. (I would have liked to have seen the process for that- but then again, I didn't ask, so that's my fault. I can always YouTube it.) Before buying, I even grabbed some food and double checked what they told me in the car via online research, and they had been honest. I had spent an hour at Best Buy last night trying to get a GoPro to no avail (Best Buy didn't have a waterproof glass casing in stock), however this store had a pretty decent competitor to the GoPro 4 for less than half the price, and it already came fully encased, waterproof up to 300 feet. And yes, I checked all the specs. ============== Review for the dive instructor/class: Immediate pro is that it cost only like $210 for the entire advanced certification, including 5 entire dives, 2 days with instructors, AND a drysuit rental. I found it exciting, challenging, and more difficult (in terms of dealing with cold water, low vis) than your average warm water dive or pool class. Which is exactly what I expected and wanted, walking into it. It was great for training and building mental toughness in the water. The instructor is very informative and helpful, and the class size was small (me and maybe 1 person), which is never a bad thing as you get a lot of help and focus. He's friendly but also expects you to perform your skills right; which is how it should be for an advanced diving cert/class. The only thing that didn't go as planned is that we weren't able to perform all the skills we were supposed to, as visibility was only about a foot (it rained heavily this week). Which is completely understandable from a common sense/liability POV, but it still sucked. The instructor said next week should be better though, so we'll see. If it is, I'll update review to show that. Either way; I get to come back for free until lake conditions are acceptable for training. Worst case scenario if they're not is a free day of partial dive training. Only things to work on: try to get a better range of sizes for drysuits and 7mm wetsuits. Bottom line: I highly recommend every new scuba diver in the entire D.C./MD/VA area come to this shop for their gear, and also for their advanced certification read more

The owner of this shop is very dishonest and sells broken equipment and refuses to fix the products. He even sells left over items on Ebay that are broken putting Scuba Divers lives in Danger. I'm going to be reporting this misconduct to PADI and the better business bureau. This shop will just cheat you out of your Money. If you are a new driver avoid buying equipment from here at all costs because you may not only lose your money you could lose your life. Why would I go through all this trouble if I was the dishonest one? I had a very bad experience with one of your PADI instructors selling products from his store on Ebay. Joe Murray PADI 196379. He sold my husband a faulty Scuba Pro Chromis, that was a gift for me. I'm a new diver just going through my training. I need a computer to finish my dives. The chromis that he sold my husband stopped working the first dive in the pool. The box had the Coral Edge Adventures sticker and bar code on it. He sold it on Ebay saying that it was brand new. So my husband contacted him because anything brought new from a Scuba Pro dealer is under a warranty. At first Joe was going to honour the warranty and service the item, then after my husband asked him to test it in Water, Joe's deamener changed. He said that the product was purchased on Ebay and had nothing to do with his store and had no warranty. Joe said the only issue was the battery. He sent the Chromis Computer back and ripped off the sticker with his shops name and bar code and the product is still faulty. His Ebay name is aquaman12589. He refuses to do anymore service to the product or send it in to Scuba Pro. My husband has no receipt from Coral Edge, but has one from Ebay. He also has a bunch of emails from him through Ebay. I'm sorry for this long complaint but I'm a new diver and a faulty computer could cause a lot of problems while diving ,especially if I was on a dive and would not have known that my computer didn't work. In conclusion he is an instructor and licensed to service Scuba equipment, but he doesn't care if the products he sells on his Ebay account work for the costumers or not. If you're looking for the best dive shop in the DC area, then you've come to the right place. I just finished my open water certification with them and could not be happier with the entire experience. Having worked with several dive shops, all of which were phenomenal, I know you will be an exceptional diver if you train here. I watched a new diver on the brink of a panic attack brought back from the edge by the Coral Edge instructors. With real finesse, they worked diligently to help calm and reassure her and the other students. This is a skill beyond just diver training, it's rooted in a real passion and desire to make the *best* divers. Just one example of their exceptional training and support, but a meaningful one. Beyond that experience: 1. I had a full gear rental - the equipment was new, extremely well maintained and their retail shop reinforces that - new gear, new filling stations/compressors, etc. Highly recommend walking around their shop as I found a wide selection of gear. 2. Open water certification - cost was right on par with other shops and industry averages: i. Small groups, so lots of individual attention ii. student to instructor ratio was 2:1 in my class iii. There was never a sense of urgency; No one was rushed, no skills were glossed over, and there was a very deliberate thoroughness that I find to be unparalleled. I absolutely love this shop, I have been doing business with them for years now . I had a coworker tell me about it; and I happened to stumble upon it while working one day. I was very surprised to find such a large shop in an area like Catharpin. I bought my first set of regulators from one of the owners Joe Murray back in early 2012, when I decided to get back into diving. Joe was very polite and knowledgeable and provided me a lot of good advice; so much in fact that after discussing BCDs with him over the course of days, I decided on going with a plate and wing setup which is one of the rigs I still use today 3 years later. They have always given me a fair price and they have been wonderful to train with, when I first came to them I was just working on my PADI Advanced Open Water; since then I have become an SDI Instructor. I am still going to Coral Edge Adventures for all of my training, gear, and most of my trips. read more

This dive shop is amazing! They have everything you would want as a diver. The employees are kind and very knowledgeable. If you have a question or in need of assistance they will take their time and will work with you. Additionally, they have all the class/certs you would want and the instructors are awesome (personable, patient and caring). They also offer dive trips to some fabulous places. If your a female diver or wanting to become a diver, they have a women's group that meets once a month to build camaraderie, schedule women's dive trips and to create future dive buddies. Went there when my son was getting certified for Boy Scouts, and realize that not only do they have great equipment selection, but most importantly knowledgeable staff in a whole host of diving areas. And they have great training, again, in a whole host of a diving specialties. I actually got my recertification there (while son went with Troop elsewhere) and was very impressed with trainers. This dive shop is phenomenal! First, the shop is huge! They have everything, in multiple sizes, and help you with everything you need. They don't upsell you or even push you into a sale at all. The staff are chill and very helpful; they're wonderful people. The prices are also much better than any of the other dive shops in the area, if you need something I have a feeling you'll end up making a purchase here. What brought me into the store was the open water class, because they had the best schedule and price. Class two nights a week, pool on Saturday and Sunday, and optional quarry dive for the open water portion. I skipped the quarry since I had a Caribbean vacation planned. I'm so happy I went with them for the instruction, their dive Masters are amazing. They're calm, explain things very well, and have fun with it! I couldn't have asked for a better experience. I did my certification dives in the Caribbean and lots of people chose to do everything here, but for them it was a waste of vacation time studying, and they flew through the information which made them very nervous in the water. I was more than happy with my experience here. They were extremely friendly, helpful, and accommodating. They worked with my schedule to ensure I received the classroom and dive experiences needed in order to complete my dive certification before my vacation. The prices for the classes are exceptional, they do not try and nickle and dime you at all. They are enthusiastic about diving and want to ensure everyone can enjoy the sport. Equipment rentals were included in the price of the class, which many other local shops required additional costs for equipment rentals. You'd never expect to find such an awesome dive shop in Catharpin, behind a gas station, but it's here! Don't underestimate the location. They have a mini-warehouse space with a huge selection of wetsuits, some drysuits, masks and other gear. Most of the dive supply shops in the Northern Virginia area might carry 3-4 brands of wetsuits or masks, which can make it difficult to find one that fits you well. Coral Edge has a great select. And routinely offers sales, so you may find really good deals. We've also had our regulators serviced here and they are knowledgeable. We are confident with their work. Also, the staff is great. Great dive shop, instructors are cool and knowledgeable. They own their own lake/quarry for diving in Manassas which is very convenient for diving close the the northern Virginia area. The Quarry has good visibility as well which makes for good diving and can see the cool sunken plane and boats at the bottom. read more

When training for a skill that could very well be a matter of life or croaking, you want trainers who exude confidence and safety. Every single pro in Coral Edge is competent, skilled, and just great! They will answer all your silliest questions. As a student, you will meet great diving mentors and friends in this facility. Awesome customer service and selection!! I needed a wetsuit for my sons open water dive last weekend. Unfortunately, I need a tall size in the 7mm wetsuits and so I have difficulty finding what I need. Coral edge has tall wetsuits and so I ordered it online. I spoke with Andy to see if I could have my wetsuit shipped quickly. He talked to Jim who spoke with me and I received my wetsuit before our dive!!! Amazing service!!!! Customer service was terrible. Man that was there was rude during the buying process. I spent a good bit of money and he was not very helpful. Was in the other day with my husband checking out the dive shop and was very disappointed with our visit. When we walked in, there was one person up front and one in the back. The staff member up front did not come up to help or really answer any questions we had about any of the gear. When we began asking questions about certifications and staff information, the staff member up front seemed to become more and more frustrated with us. Asked several questions about gear and pricing and it appeared as though we were bothering him. He made it appear that it was his job to put other shops out of business with the few answers we did get. When looking at gear prices, though they did have a large selection of gear at lower prices then we have seen at other shops, the impression we were given was that we were unwelcome because we were asking too many questions and they will do what is necessary to out price any other shop to take business away from other dive shops. Just tried asking what type of store they were, meaning PADI or NAUI or anything, the staff member was unsure of the stores rating, could not answer any of those questions and had no student materials out to be seen. When we asked about student materials etc and interest in classes, we again appeared to be bothering him and got little to no answer from that point on. We will not be going back to this shop, but rather taking our business else where. read more
