Thanks Diventures and Diveventures Virginia for making the Secore trip to Curaçao amazing! Amazing, easy week of diving some beautiful and alive corals reefs. It was great learning with Sabrina, Dirk (and Paul) about the work Secore is doing to help the reefs! Thanks Wille (Duane and Josh) for helping sort through the selection of flashlights and making sure I had my Big Blue flashlights I wanted for the trip. I preferred having the red lens and the marker light at night! Also, the 1 mm neoprene top was perfect weight for me. Thanks Drew and Tracy for making sure my gear was good to go. DO NOT PATRONIZE THIS DIVE SHOP!! So many things wrong with my one and only experience here. I will start with the positives. They are very nice and respectful. That is all. They WILL steal your money or hold your gear hostage. I dropped my regulator off for an inspection and normal servicing. I told them when I dropped the gear off in June that the regulator worked for my last 10 dives or so but did have an issue with a small leak during normal breathing and if they could find and fix it, that would be great. I let them know I was a new customer because I had it serviced last year from a local competitor and would like a re-look as it didn't feel as comfortable under water as it had previous to last year. They officially quoted me $90. Normal for a regular annual/semi-annual service, right? This week they issued me a bill for $217.20. Yes, THIS WEEK, after I had to call and ask where my gear was and try and get a status on it last week (so I guess it was sitting around ready, or my timing is impeccable). I dropped it off in June and they said they were very busy but would have it back in early August. I did make it clear there was no rush, but 4 months for a service?!?! And they didn't even service the back-up/Octo (they did make it clear at drop off that this would not be done as they do not service HOG brands). Just the beginning with these jokers. I did receive a call, once. From a gentleman in Colorado Springs in early September (I dropped it off in Vienna, Virginia btw and there was no communication or indication that it would be shipped across the country for the work). He stated that he had my gear and had found the source of the small leak. He said it would cost me an additional $15-$20 to fix and he would get that done. So, of course, I'm thinking $110 after the $90 original quote.....until I get this bill of $217! No mention of any additional work or needs on the call. The store then maintained that the 1st and 2nd stage required "overhaul" and proceeded to charge me an additional $95 for parts needed. They went on to do this without any communication to me. No ask, no courtesy call to let me know what the additional work or costs were. The fix to the small leak was a cracked "spindle body" which cost them $15 to fix but charged me $25 (I know this from the gentleman who called from Colorado Springs). Not irregular in business, unless you are also charging $45 servicing fee per stage! So, I'm now wondering what the upcharge for the other parts that were actually unneeded?? My argument goes on to explain the improper business ethics that they are following, and they proceed to maintain that they wouldn't have done the overhaul if they knew the regulator had been serviced recently! Haha, you're kidding right? So, I didn't really need those parts but you replaced them anyway because the notes from dropping it off 4 months ago were not attached?!?! "Well, how would we know if you didn't tell us?" First of all, I did, and second, I don't think customers need parts that are not broken or don't appear to need replacement! Like I said, crooked and just bad business all around. After getting corporate involved, they ended up knocking one of the service fees off for a total of $161.60. I'm sorry for the long review, but I believe this is just bad business and if I can help another diver out with my evaluation of the service here, then it was worth it. This wonderful sport is expensive enough already, divers don't need to be ripped off in their own small circle. read more

I did my cert and bought all my dive gear at this shop when it was Nautilus. I loved Jason and Melissa's care they took in their training. I felt so prepared. Now that the shop is part of Diventures, I feel like it has become a community, as well. Diventures is a wonderful resource for trips and making new friends. I love all the events that they are having to bring divers together in the community. I'm doing a trip with another shop with Diventures and I appreciate that Willie is working with me and that shop to make sure that my trip is seamless. They take care of you here! read more

PADI Open Water Diver training through Diventures was amazing and unforgettable. Our group had such a fun time leaning/demonstrating all of the open water rec diving skills in the quarry. By far, the best part was the instructor- Dr Kevin King. He's such a great instructor and made learning enjoyable and seamless. It's evident that he is passionate about what he does and cares about all of the students. For anyone thinking about getting certified, sign up for Dive Pro Kevin's class- you'll be glad you did. Very experienced and friendly staff who love to dive and take the time to help everyone regardless of experience level. With something as important as breathing underwater, it is important to find a dive shop where the people are very knowledgable so you can trust them, literally, with your life. They host regular trips for training dives to the nearest quarries, to Palm Beach Florida and more exotic locations. They carry and service high quality brand dive gear and will take the time to carefully advise you - which is helpful when the gear and training choices get complicated or confusing to the layman. They offer introductory courses, scuba camps for kids in the summer, trips, and advanced technical training. It's a good sign when a shop includes technical instructors on staff. The training dive weekends attract people from the area that just love to dive. I've been a customer for at least 3 or 4 years now, and highly recommend Nautilus Aquatics. read more

I came in to this shop for a Discovery Scuba session to see what scuba diving is like before going all in. I knew nothing about scuba, but The instructors were so helpful! They set me up with everything I needed. They took me through the basics with a workbook and then fitted me for gear. They showed me how to use all the equipment, and I had a blast testing it out in the pool. We swam around and played underwater games that helped me get more comfortable with the regulator and learn how to work with buoyancy. They took great care of me. I'm definitely going back to get officially certified and start going on dive trips with them this summer! read more

Nautilus Aquatics is now my go-to dive shop in the DC area. I recently moved back to the area from overseas and initially tried a couple of local dive shops that were a bit closer to me. That was a mistake. Nautilus Aquatics is worth the drive. It should be fun to go to a dive shop, and Nautilus Aquatics is fun! The staff are nice, knowledgeable, and fun to have a chat with. The tropical music playing in the background is a nice touch as well. We all want a bit of escape from the sometimes dreary DC weather, and Nautilus provides that! More specifically, I had equipment serviced by a different dive shop in the area. After the service, a computer ended up flooding during a pool check. Nautilus was able to bring that computer back to life with distilled water and TLC. They did all of that while charging me only for a battery change. The restored computer performed flawlessly on a weeklong liveaboard vacation in Belize. (Thank you!) All of the items that I've had serviced has been finished earlier than promised at the agreed upon price. I'll be shopping at Nautilus for equipment purchases when possible because I want to keep local dive shops alive and well! Their prices are reasonable, and local know-how and expertise makes up for any difference in price. Go Nautilus! read more

I just completed my advanced open water certification during one of their camp and dive weekends. This was my first training experience with Nautilus Aquatics and it will not be my last! Not only were the instructors organized and very professional, they made me feel like part of their diving family. I am AOW certified and am serious enough about diving to do it 1-2 times a year. I went to the store with only a mild interest in buying a dive computer and a dry bag. After some conversation with Melissa, I was compelled to buy my own gear (BCD. regulator, dive computer, mask, fins, etc.). As someone who has been diving for only 4 years, it can be easy to be overwhelmed by this. Melissa is extremely knowledgeable and patient. She was able to explain all the equipment down to the materials. She custom fit me right there for a BCD. I'm sure once I get to use all the new gear, it will make a WORLD of difference over rentals. Even trying on a wetsuit and masks had me convinced I was making the right choice. Of course, diving isn't a cheap hobby, but if you plan on doing it regularly in the years to come, it was absolutely worth visiting this shop. Diving gear is all about safety, and Melissa only stocks the best quality brands. I feel 100% confident in the items we purchased. read more

The shop introduced me to a passion for diving that I didn't even know I had! Everyone has been warm and welcoming, bringing me into the fold of the family so to speak! Melissa has gone out of her way to help me pick a camera system best for me - taking a day off to bring in personal systems to show me options! Even taking a return on a defective bag (months after it broke because I kept forget to bring it!!) Jason taught my rescue class and helped me to be calm (even when I was stressing about my buoyancy and mask issues) - filled our class with laughter and seriousness at the same time. I see the level of effort these two and the rest of the team (Robert, Drew, etc.) give - and I am happy to have them as my home away from home. A place I trust to have my back. An ear to listen. OITSTANDING dive shop and school. I've been diving for 20+ years. I enrolled my 8 year old in their SCUBA camp this summer. Each day she came home versed in the fundamentals of diving (clearing your ears, exhaling an ascent, hand signals, etc) as well as marine life. The kids played games like making puzzles under water. The class was both fun and instructive. As a diver, I was impressed at the level of material being taught in a very kid friendly way. I am definitely going to enroll my daughter in their open water course when she's older. I would strongly encourage anyone wanting to learn how to dive to join their courses. read more

I just finished my open water certification in time for my trip to Indonesia. I have felt completely supported through this process and feel like I have a new family with Nautilus Aquatics and the diving community. I signed up two days before a class. Sent in all the forms and was told I could not take the class because I needed a doctors note. I see a chiropractor for my back but they wouldn't accept a note from him clearing me and then never returned any of my calls or email regarding a refund or anything else. Paid $99 dollars not knowing I wouldn't be able to take the class because I see a chiropractor and then they don't contact me back?? Total scam. read more
