Primarily I just hiked around but I saw many people bird watching, and enjoying the quiet nature as well. The best part is the scenic overlook that gives a beautiful view of the river valley, especially at sunset. When I visited the park, it felt calm and less crowded. That definitely makes it a nice place for families or anyone who wants a break from busy life. My suggestion to everyone one is to hike at this park and then head to the town of Weston to enjoy some hot wine at Pritle Wineries followed by amazing food at the O'malleys pub.

If you hike along the West Ridge you will climb up to the ridge and come up to some overlooks that look into Kansas. The park was unmanned on Indigenous Peoples Day, but folks were able to access the park. If you have pets, the park has a small dog park at the front end. Plenty of benches can be found along the lower trails to take a load off. Right now the leaves are turning into their fall shades and the birds that come in the fall are arriving for the birders that are on the hunt. Plenty of information can be found at the trail head. There are clean bathrooms. The water fountains don't work, but the taps do. The weather today was awesome. I will return.

There are obstacles that none of the dogs ever play on but they are cute regardless. It seems like the dogs just like to pee on them. There is a walking path for humans and benches and water fountain for humans and dogs! All flat running area and can get pretty muddy after it rains. But overall nice place!

Or you can venture out on the miles of trails to the right of the parking lot (off leash, as well). The trails in the open areas are pretty wide (think car width) & easy to navigate and follow. One of the trails even has some freshly laid crushed gravel. The trails through the woods are narrow but well packed down. However, If you have any mobility issues, you might stick to the open area trails as you're likely to encounter fallen logs or have to scale up a creekside when on the trails through the woods. Close to the parking lot, there are some obstacles set up so your dog would like ride on the seesaw or climb the A-frame. I've been at multiple times of day. The middle of the day seems to be a little less populated. It does get pretty busy towards late afternoon/early evening as people are getting off work. Parking can be sparse at that time. If so, people tend to park off the side of the road & walk over. Be sure to slow down & pay extra attention as you are coming or going as dogs sometimes venture into the parking lot or road. Especially in the parking lot between the fenced area & open area.

I think…read morethis is my dog's favorite place in the world, he a Labrador retriever and loves swimming and playing fetch. The parking lot is spacious but I have seen it so busy it's full depending on when you go. For my dog it's a spring, summer, fall park. We don't go in the winter because he will want to swim and would freeze if we let him. It has a paved sidewalk all the way down to the rocky beach. There is one part by the water that is pretty steep, so I don't think I wouldn't say it's wheel chair accessible or stroller accessible, if you go all the way. There are a couple little dirt trails around for hiking. We've set up hammocks before. It's fenced in, but if you have a small dog that likes to escape, watch for holes. There is a spot for dogs to get a drink. You have to clean up after your dog, and there is only one poop-shoot to discard it. There are bathrooms now at the front entrance. TIPS FOR FIRST-TIMERS: If you bring a bag to the beach and set it down just know it might get peed on. I've seen this happen to many unsuspecting guests. The dogs are roaming free, so anything is fair game. Be ready to share toys with other dogs and play with other dogs. Dogs get separated from their owner easily because it's a big park. Prepare for a long walk down to the beach. Bring water for yourself. You don't want to be stuck carrying a huge bag, pack light.

Jack is used to hiking back home in California so he loved the open space and trails within the forest. Jack also liked the small section of lake that the dogs can swim at, however the only downside is that there is no division for small and large dogs. I noticed the large dogs would gather around the smaller ones a lot causing some unwanted behavior and crowding. If the lake was sectioned into 2 areas it would be perfect. Overall a good experience and place to go in low traffic days if you have a small dog like me.

Those Maple trees are at their best from late September through early November, as Kansas City transitions through its seasons. The area is home to a main trail, which is roughly a mile long in distance and has some off shoots, if you have time for a side quest. You'll share these trails with other hikers. Dogs are allowed as long as they're friendly and on a leash. I didn't see any bikes. There is a small parking lot at the entrance. I don't think you'll have any issues finding a spot, but I can see it filling up at peak times.

The entire Leawood park is 66 acres, everything you can imagine is there. The dog park is at the very end of the park, and there is a very short walk from the parking lot to the entrance of the dog parks. Both small and big dog park sides are very well planned out, all benches have covers over the top for shade, there are sections of each dog park that are completely shaded by the trees, water fountains on both sides, PLENTY of space for your dog to run! We noticed while driving into Leawood park that there is many different trails and LOTS of open fields. I felt safe walking my dog here alone at dusk as a woman, and I only met very friendly people while we were in the dog park. Will definitely be back on our next visit!
