My dog LOVED this park! While on our visit to Kansas City we decided to bring our dog here (very short drive from Oakland Park) and we have never seen anything like this for the public. The entire Leawood park is 66 acres, everything you can imagine is there. The dog park is at the very end of the park, and there is a very short walk from the parking lot to the entrance of the dog parks. Both small and big dog park sides are very well planned out, all benches have covers over the top for shade, there are sections of each dog park that are completely shaded by the trees, water fountains on both sides, PLENTY of space for your dog to run! We noticed while driving into Leawood park that there is many different trails and LOTS of open fields. I felt safe walking my dog here alone at dusk as a woman, and I only met very friendly people while we were in the dog park. Will definitely be back on our next visit! read more

I don't pretend to be a "dog park aficionado" by any stretch of the imagination, but new pup = new things. All I can say is that I loved the place...and my pup did, too. It's big and open and he ran like he was the Flash all over the place. We went mid-day, so there weren't very many other dogs there, which was fine, as he's just getting into making friends. The dogs we did meet, though, were super friendly and so were their owners. We'll be rolling over there on the regular. I can sit and read and he can run like he's chasing buffalo across the prairie, or whatever Kansas dogs do in their dreams. read more

I frequent dog parks often and more than anything what makes a dog park is the other owners. It is very infrequent that you run into an unfriendly person at leawoof. The vast majority clean up after their dogs and are willing to stop and chat about their dogs when you want to engage. It does get muddy in the rainy seasons but they do provide a washing area with a short hose near the entrance. It would be awesome if they made a paved walkway around the edge at some point but I think it's fine to walk around the inside of the fence if that is your thing. My boys have never had a bad experience here. Also, it's very serine despite being pretty close to the highway. Especially in the fall when the leaves are changing (now) it's a beautiful park for people and pups. read more

This is a nice dog park amongst the trails out in Leawood, before you feel like you're way out in south Leawood. There's all the things you need like a doggie drinking fountain, off-leash area for small dogs and a separate one for larger dogs. I like all the shade on the trails around it, and there's water off the trails if you have a water-loving dog. That factors in to the overall experience for me, and the Indian Creek trails are always enjoyable, safe (although watch for flooding and the occasional news story about a flasher), and you'll see some wildlife for sure. Really there isn't a ton to it outside of the mini "obstacle course," but it's always nice to let the dog go nuts and run amok in a space that isn't my office or living room. read more

Leawoof is both Leo (my dog) and mine's favorite dog park in Johnson County! There's two does both fenced in, one for small dogs and one for all dogs. The all dog side is much bigger than the small dog side. Leo enjoys going to both sides! The all dog side has an obstacle course although some of the equipment is broken. There are dog fountains on both sides. Dog owners at Leawoof seem to me more friendly than other dog parks in Johnson County. I've met some very kind people here and of course some paw-dorable dogs! Sometimes the park is closed when it rains a lot, I've gone a couple times and the gate has been locked. If you have a furry best friend, I definitely recommend taking him or her to Leawoof! read more

Lady and I have been to a lot of dog parks and this is one of our favorites! It's split into a larger dog area and a smaller dog area. The large dog area is open and grassy with an agility course. The small dog area is spacious enough for small dogs, but is kind of small. There aren't that many trash cans, but plenty of poop bags to go around! It's truly a beautiful dog park. You do have to park a little bit away and walk, but it's a nice walk. The one downfall is when it rains there are some serious mud puddles. Hilarious to watch dogs tromp through it, not so much when it is your own. read more

We just moved to the area and have three dogs. A cocker spaniel, an American pit bull, and a Labrador/Australian Shepard. I am not going to recommend a dog park where I cannot bring all of my babies. My dogs LOVE off leash dog parks and I have never seen a dog park discriminate against ONE breed of dog. Absolutely ridiculous. I don't appreciate not allowing pit bull breeds, and for that I leave this review. read more

If you want your dog attacked by untrained and out of control dogs who are neglected by their owners then this is the perfect place to go! The owners will watch as their wild animals attack your dog and will do absolutely nothing about it. This is the dog park for dogs who sit in their crate every weekday Mon-Fri until their owners let them free on the weekends and still can't manage to spend 5 seconds with their dogs to ensure they are behaving properly. After the attack my dog endured today he has regressed back to his timid ways after I spent months working with him because he came from an abusive home, only for him to be abused at the dog park. I will not be recommending my family and friends to bring their dogs here if they care about their animals safety and well-being. read more

It's okay, nice big area to run however the water is OUTSIDE the gate to the park, no water inside. I've been there several times, everyone and the dogs have been friendly. I live on the Missouri side and not totally comfortable with their parks because of the Pit Bull problem and just generally more unsocialized / aggressive dogs in the Missouri parks....Pit's are not allowed in the Leawood park so when I'm in the area, I stop by this park. You will have to deal with some of the stereotypical Type A elitist Leawood Males who seem to think they're in charge of everything but it hasn't been too annoying (yet) Make sure you watch the front gate, people either don't care or don't pay attention but they'll let your dog out while they're leaving. I have seen this twice and it also happened to my dog. I was all the way at the other end of the park and my dog had gotten out with a group of people, nobody was even trying to corral him or anything. My biggest complaint, no water inside...have fun! read more

I was expecting more features since the setting was so nice. Beautiful gate and entry way. But actually this is kind of the plain jane of Johnson County dog parks. There's really no variation to the terrain, which has its advantages for visual contact with your dog, but is kind of a boring stroll for humans. The agility equipment is a nice touch but most of it is in disrepair. I'm sure Leawood can afford some basic maintenance. So overall not a bad park, just not very exciting. read more

Its a very large fenced in area to bring your dogs. The dog park is about 200 meters from the parking lot. It is a great places to bring dogs of all ages and all sizes. There is another fences in area for small dogs. It seems like most people that come there are responsible dog owners and keep an eye on their dogs while they are playing. read more

Great park - huge and open. My dog is new to our house and a puppy and he likes to jump up at people - especially little kids that squeal and scream. I have had a couple people act very rude toward me when my dog jumped on them or their kids. I know my dog needs to learn not to jump, but this is a dog park first and foremost, not a human park. If you can't handle having an excited puppy jump up at you, don't come to the dog park. And if your kids aren't comfortable with strange dogs, leave them at home. read more

This is the best off leash dog park I've, or should I say my dogs have ever experienced. All the park is fenced with attractive wood rail fencing - far improvement over chain link or other wired fence. Have a couple of Cavalier King Charles Spaniels so we went to the small dog area. Loved the people and the dogs there both of our first two visits. Dogs were appropriately friendly, people were nice and normal. The large dog area looked great, would have loved it when I had a couple of Irish Setters. While it looks like the grass has been reseeded, and maybe would be a bit muddy on rainy days, that happens. The reseeding shows the city is serious about providing a quality experience. The drinking fountain for dogs is so nice, although it was not working in March most likely because of the freezing possibility so logical. Using low areas that could be subject to flooding in extreme weather are a great use for recreation areas for dogs and humans. Every dog park in America should follow the example of this park. read more

We took our small dog here to let her run off some steam. This is the best dog park we have been to and the location is easy. Often times there is gravel or bare patches from wear and tear. This park had full grass everywhere. Even the small dog area was large enough for lots of running. There were benches for humans as well. The large dog area was the size of a football field. There were doggie water fountains in both areas although my spoiled dog thought she was too good to drink out of it. There is also a stream nearby so the water loving dogs were splashing around in there. The only down side is that there is minimal shade on the small dog side so if you don't want to be in full sun, bring an umbrella. We will definitely be back here. read more

My two pups and I love the Leawoof Dog Park. There are two fenced in sections. One for dogs under 35lbs and one for over 35. Sometimes more gentle,bigger sized dogs will show up in the small dog section and smaller, spunky dogs will end up in the bigger dog section. It never seems to cause a problem though. There are water fountains for the pups and lots of room for them to run. This park also has benches and trees with shade, which is awesome. And though this technically isn't park of the dog park, there is a creek nearby that I see dogs running in all the time. It looks clean and there's plenty of rocks for owners to stand and watch their dogs play in the water. I love this park and will continue to coming here! Great vibes and people! read more

Truth is my mini poodle boys love the Small dog side, and we do too - unless there's been rain in the last few days. Then the Small dog side becomes unusable due to mud and standing water, unless you don't mind muddy and soaked dogs. It's too bad they can't find a way to resolve this for the users. The Large/All dog side doesn't seem to have the same problem, so if your smaller pups are ok running with the bigger dogs, you have that option. Also, keep an eye open for folks who let their, usually bigger, dogs off leash before getting into the gated off leash area. read more

My family loves going to this dog park! My 4 year old runs around with all of the dogs and everyone seems to watch the dogs well. The park is huge and has a big and little dog side. They both have water fountains for the pups and they have always been stocked on poopy bags when we have visited! Love it! They put new fountains for the pups on the inside of the pay area to address the prior issue! read more

Nicely maintained, fully-fenced dog park with a separate area for small dogs. But it's fairly small - five acres with just small grove of a few trees (compared to the 60-acres and lots of wooded trails at Shawnee Mission Dog Park). In true Leawood style, it's well groomed (although because of the small size the grass tends to get worn down and it can be quite muddy). read more

You can tell this park was created on the Leawood philosophy. I'll just comment on various aspects of it. - Small trail. The park is enormous, which is good and bad. But the problem is the concrete trail runs about 10 percent of the entire park, so it's not as conducive to keeping an eye on your dog(s). And it would simply be nice if there were a longer path to stroll along. And I get that I can just walk through the grass. But, poop. And wet grass. It's more inconvenient than it sounds. - The size. I do appreciate that it's a big park, but bigger isn't necessarily better. Like it feels like parks get to a certain point that they really don't need to be any bigger (Waggin' Trail is a nice size). Plus there is only one water fountain that is located pretty close to the entrance, so if you're sitting at a bench or are in the agility area at the clear far end away from the entrance, it would be nice to have another fountain or two. - Lack of shade. This seems to be a problem across the majority of dog parks, so maybe I'm asking for too much. But again, given the size of this particular park, scattered sitting areas with shade would be nice. - Leawood folks. I echo the sentiment of other reviews that talk about the pretentious, somewhat snooty crowds that are here. We have been a few times now and we have already encountered someone who rudely scolded my girlfriend to close the gate (since they aren't spring-operated, which is annoying). We also notice people often don't bother to turn on the water fountain for dogs that aren't theirs, even though it's a simple foot press. Overall, it's fine. It's surrounded by a wooden fence rather than traditional chain link. I'm impartial to it. read more

Since my last review, they have dropped some gravel to address a few of the soggier spots, added an in-park doggy water fountain (foot operated, which is cool because dog slobber isn't my favorite thing) and an amaaaaazing agility course. This is a very nice off lease dog park that offers space for both large and small dogs. There is even agility training equipment in the back of the large dog space. I only wish there were more of this kind of quality dog parks within the city. read more

I love this park!!! It's really good size and you can see the entire park from wherever you stand so no worries about not having your pup in sight when they are off having fun. Not a lot of grass but maybe that will change, I've only been going a couple months now. It can get pretty muddy on some areas but that's to be expected at a dog park of this size. We went to this park this morning with our two little dogs. We loved it and so did they! We were on the all dog side and they had a blast running around and playing. The best part is that we were always able to see where they were even though it's a pretty big area. The people and other dogs there were all so great and we enjoyed it a lot! read more
