I frequent dog parks often and more than anything what makes a dog park is the other owners. It is very infrequent that you run into an unfriendly person at leawoof. The vast majority clean up after their dogs and are willing to stop and chat about their dogs when you want to engage. It does get muddy in the rainy seasons but they do provide a washing area with a short hose near the entrance. It would be awesome if they made a paved walkway around the edge at some point but I think it's fine to walk around the inside of the fence if that is your thing. My boys have never had a bad experience here. Also, it's very serine despite being pretty close to the highway. Especially in the fall when the leaves are changing (now) it's a beautiful park for people and pups.

This is a nice dog park amongst the trails out in Leawood, before you feel like you're way out in south Leawood. There's all the things you need like a doggie drinking fountain, off-leash area for small dogs and a separate one for larger dogs. I like all the shade on the trails around it, and there's water off the trails if you have a water-loving dog. That factors in to the overall experience for me, and the Indian Creek trails are always enjoyable, safe (although watch for flooding and the occasional news story about a flasher), and you'll see some wildlife for sure. Really there isn't a ton to it outside of the mini "obstacle course," but it's always nice to let the dog go nuts and run amok in a space that isn't my office or living room.

Leawoof is both Leo (my dog) and mine's favorite dog park in Johnson County! There's two does both fenced in, one for small dogs and one for all dogs. The all dog side is much bigger than the small dog side. Leo enjoys going to both sides! The all dog side has an obstacle course although some of the equipment is broken. There are dog fountains on both sides. Dog owners at Leawoof seem to me more friendly than other dog parks in Johnson County. I've met some very kind people here and of course some paw-dorable dogs! Sometimes the park is closed when it rains a lot, I've gone a couple times and the gate has been locked. If you have a furry best friend, I definitely recommend taking him or her to Leawoof!

Dried up mud puddle, but you can see what I mean.

Lady and I have been to a lot of dog parks and this is one of our favorites! It's split into a larger dog area and a smaller dog area. The large dog area is open and grassy with an agility course. The small dog area is spacious enough for small dogs, but is kind of small. There aren't that many trash cans, but plenty of poop bags to go around! It's truly a beautiful dog park. You do have to park a little bit away and walk, but it's a nice walk. The one downfall is when it rains there are some serious mud puddles. Hilarious to watch dogs tromp through it, not so much when it is your own.

My only complaint is that the smaller area has restrictions on dogs that can go in there making it difficult for owners of both large and small dogs. The large dog park can be overwhelming for small dogs. Although most didn't mind a large dog in the small dog park, one lady was terrified of the fact that Chief (the most calm dog ever) being in there and around her dog. This made for a bad experience as she was very rude and threatened to call authorities when Chief was just laying in the grass minding his own business. The large dog park has a great trail for walking around. A large open grassy area in the middle for dogs to run and play although I would imagine it gets muddy when there is rain as it is lower than the walking area. The park has a course with different toys the dogs can play and train on. The people at the park were friendly and I didn't see any dogs with behavior issues. If you are a dog parent, you have to check out this park. You will not be disappointed (unless the one lady targets you.)

(4th review of 2022)…read more Wifey & I love this park! It's wide open & paved trails around the lake. People that frequent the park are nice. We laugh every time we go there when it's freezing cause we see all the rocks scattered on the top of the ice on the lake. I guess people try to toss rocks on the frozen lake to find out how big & how far they can toss the rock. Hahaha. I'm kinda tempted to try that the next time. They do have an area by the entrance of the parking lot where you can pile up real Christmas trees after the holidays. Not sure what they do with them afterwards, but it's cool that they have a drop off area. When we dropped off our 2.5' tree there was at least a 5' high & 15' wide pile. I was laughing cause our dinky lil tree was so manini (small) compared to the others that were about 6-8' tall. Aside from the trails & Christmas tree drop off, this is a perfect parking lot to learn to drive in snow... as I found out the hard way. Hehehe... nervous giggling. Never driven in snow before & it's waaay different that driving on rain soaked roads. Well, hope to get back to the beautiful park soon. A Hui Hou!!

I think…read morethis is my dog's favorite place in the world, he a Labrador retriever and loves swimming and playing fetch. The parking lot is spacious but I have seen it so busy it's full depending on when you go. For my dog it's a spring, summer, fall park. We don't go in the winter because he will want to swim and would freeze if we let him. It has a paved sidewalk all the way down to the rocky beach. There is one part by the water that is pretty steep, so I don't think I wouldn't say it's wheel chair accessible or stroller accessible, if you go all the way. There are a couple little dirt trails around for hiking. We've set up hammocks before. It's fenced in, but if you have a small dog that likes to escape, watch for holes. There is a spot for dogs to get a drink. You have to clean up after your dog, and there is only one poop-shoot to discard it. There are bathrooms now at the front entrance. TIPS FOR FIRST-TIMERS: If you bring a bag to the beach and set it down just know it might get peed on. I've seen this happen to many unsuspecting guests. The dogs are roaming free, so anything is fair game. Be ready to share toys with other dogs and play with other dogs. Dogs get separated from their owner easily because it's a big park. Prepare for a long walk down to the beach. Bring water for yourself. You don't want to be stuck carrying a huge bag, pack light.

Jack is used to hiking back home in California so he loved the open space and trails within the forest. Jack also liked the small section of lake that the dogs can swim at, however the only downside is that there is no division for small and large dogs. I noticed the large dogs would gather around the smaller ones a lot causing some unwanted behavior and crowding. If the lake was sectioned into 2 areas it would be perfect. Overall a good experience and place to go in low traffic days if you have a small dog like me.

A 66 acre park, everything you can imagine is here. Many different trails, LOTS of open fields, 2 or 3 different play grounds for kids, a water park area with pools and slides, soccer fields and many soccer goals, 2 basketball courts, pickleball, tennis, you name it they probably have it. Extremely well taken care of and felt very safe walking around at dusk even on the trails with just my dog. The dog parks were HUGE, and everything was very clean and NEW. I rode my bike out here on one of the warmest days of the spring and it's always a nice destination. There are tons of trails connecting through it that are best suited for walkers/joggers. Cyclists can ride on them, but they're twisty and full of people, so I'd recommend sticking to the roads more than these on the bike. There are soccer fields, a dog park (with it's own Yelp page), a pool, and it's right in the middle of Leawood and easily accessible off 435. Really glad the city had the foresight to design such a big amenity for Johnson County. If you're a dog owner, there are portions where you can get down to the creek if your doggo needs a quick swim. Granted there are leash laws, but if you have a dog that you can recall well, I say go for it. It's really a nice park overall and perfect for those needing a dosage of sunshine and nature right now.
