Worst selling experience ever! They made a huge lot out of multiple unrelated items that we brought in for consignment. (Japanese pottery, 2 Mexican pottery, Lenox vase, Chinese plate) They claimed to be so excited to get them all. They listed the entire lot for $20. It went down to $10 last minute and got sold. It took multiple calls and emails to get a call back. They did no research on the items and gave incorrect descriptions of others. ABSOLUTELY WOULD NOT RECOMMEND SELLING WITH THEM! read more

We would have really enjoyed giving Cordier a higher rating. They seemed to be catering to a higher income range of clients, so we hoped it was worth the exorbitant amount of commission. Of all the couple hundred items I sent pictures of, they wanted less than ten. I delivered them, auction came and none had many bids, and all but one item sold for less than they should have. And I sure wasn't expecting retail. Disappointed - absolutely. While I was there, several people came in to pick up firearms from a previous auction. While waiting, several of them chatted with me and all of them expressed disappointment in the heavy commission they were charged. I'll take the rest to another auction house. I bought 3 lots at auction, paid as soon as I got reciept. Then nothing ! over a three week period I called four times wanting info on shipping. told I would get Email the next day , Did not happen. When i did, I was floored at shipping costs. They could have easly put all 3 lots in one box, NOPE!! All shipped seperate at a cost of what I paid for all 3 items. I should have did my home work on these Jokers before doing business. 90% customers give ONE STAR!!! read more

This company doesn't honor its contracts. The management refused to return unsold items even when specified on contract, saying "we don't do that ." It is very difficult to get anyone to call you back despite leaving multiple messages. I do not recommend them read more

More worried about conveying an image of safety so they can continue their business through this so-called pandemic.. several times during the middle of this shut down I tried to contact them to pick up nothing more than a few magazines and postcards.. not open not open not open they said continuously.. when you're from Florida and you're trying to retrieve your items, how possible is it to plan anything in this section of the US with one option company and only one, refused to allow items to be picked up. Frankly they are rude, do not answer the phone hardly at all, differ to the website which doesn't always work, I urge you to think twice before you bid on anything from these folks. read more

I purchased (1) Lot of Books. I paid instantly for my won lot. I haven't heard anything from them other than receiving an invoice that It was paid for using my credit card on file. I emailed them this weekend saying I would be in the area for Christmas Shopping and I'd like to pick my lot up. I'm from Chambersburg, PA (a 2 hour round trip). They emailed me back they dont have any pick up slots available this week except for Friday (4 days from now). I called to speak with him on the phone. He did not pick up. I emailed him back and I reiterated to him that I am in the area shopping and close by. I even mentioned they could put my won lot outside and I can pick it up contactless without disturbing anyone. I heard nothing back from him for 4+ hours. In the meantime I traveled home. His return email said "So I did check with management and this is something I'm not able to accommodate unfortunately". Five minutes after that email I get two more emails from Cordier Accounting stating I owe $5.15 late fee for not picking up my item. I tried to pick it up in person today. The yelp website says "Walk-ins Welcome" So I emailed them and told them to ship my heavy books 1 hour to me. I can't wait to see what the shipping fee is going to be. I will not be looking at their upcoming auctions, I will not be speaking of them in a high manner, and lastly I will not be buying anything from them ever again. I'm part of an Auction family and I never could imagine conducting a business like this. The reviews already on here paint the picture for anyone. read more

On two recent occasions, this Auction business conducted on-line consignment auctions and failed to accurately describe the items being sold and did not reveal serious defects in either piece. They did not allow a preview or inspection of the items (although most local auction houses do, even during covid) so you had to trust their descriptions and photos which were misleading or false. I do not plan to ever do business with them again. read more

Would have loved to give Cordier a higher rating. My mother passed last year, and I've been working to clean out her home -- I live in Los Angeles, she lived in Enola, PA. I contacted Cordier to help get rid of the larger, bulkier antiques. Cordier was unable to accommodate my schedule (I was in town from Los Angeles), and then asked for detailed pictures of all the items. I was pretty disappointed they expected me to take pictures of everything and essentially do their work for them... this is disappointing considering they also take a hefty commission. Ended up contacting other Auction Houses and Estate Sales companies who were much more accommodating and willing to come out, take a look around, and give estimates. Having someone show up and take a peek versus sending pictures saved hours worth of my time. read more

After sending me a paid receipt for purchase of a 2000 rug, they turned around within minutes and sold the rug to someone else (again?) and said that I could no longer pick it up. don't know how auction houses continue to get away with scamming people like this but somebody, somewhere has to put their foot down in support of buyers. Live auctioneers is the only organization with the clout to do something about this, as these scams are often occurring on or facilitated by their platform, as evidenced by my experience and those of the other reviewers. Suspensions and bans from the LiveAuctioneers marketplace should loom large over the head of auctioneers. That's the only thing that will Keep auctioneers like this from abusing their online customers. read more

Cordier is the most disgusting and rude auction I have ever bid on. I usually pick a better class of auction companies, dc or towson area. I tried it once , and never again. They were rude and told me I could not pick up my items and they would go back to the next upcoming auction during the pandemic. I was upset and felt they were not at all professional. First and last time I do business with Cordier. Their communications are terrible, and when you do reach someone, they sound aloof and condescending. When I finally got an invoice, it required a wire transfer!! Who does that??? At least domestically. And for a sum under $2k. They WILL NOT take a credit card. I finally had to drive to my bank's office to do the transfer. Their bank refused it based on information Cordier supplied, and charged me for the privilege, in addition to my bank's charge. Save yourself some headaches and avoid this company. read more

You can judge the quality and honesty of an auctioneer based on their ability to effectively identify and write accurate condition reports of antiques. Although this company claims to have knowledgeable employees, they aren't. Buyers depend on auction houses to be straightforward, to answer questions accurately, to respond to problems, to uphold PA State Auctioneer standards. This company failed me on all counts. I've bought from this auction house several times...but this last time will be the final time I choose to work with them. Despite following the payment terms on the invoice they sent me, I was literally harassed by their employee about making payment - not just by email, but also by phone and snail mail. (this while being in contact with them and paying within their stated terms) When I told them to stop contacting me - they continued to harass me, including a higher up who was rather condescending. They clearly care more about money than anything else. Which is a shame, as the previous person I dealt with there was extremely nice. There are better auction houses to work with...I, personally, would skip this one. read more

This business is a clown show. Do not waste your time. Sat around all day waiting for the Cordier item I wanted to come up for auction on LiveAuctioneers. I was thrilled I won and couldn't wait to pick it up the following Monday. But before Monday came, I received an emailed request asking me to willingly give up the item because of a "clerking error." I was to press "yes" or "no" -- no other info was offered in the email. My heart sank because I really wanted this item, but I didn't want someone else to be disappointed. I called Cordier asking what it meant. The rude woman said she didn't know anything about it and told me to call LiveAuctioneers, the host of the online auction through which I bid. Wasted more time contacting LiveAuctioneers only to be told the request to "give up" the item came from Cordier so I would have to talk to Cordier. Rather than waste more time, I clicked in the email that I declined to give up the item and wrote my check for the purchase. Then I noticed the pickup times had changed from what they were before the auction -- I needed to get the item within a few hours by this point. I called Cordier back to arrange pickup and was told (rudely) by THE SAME RECEPTIONIST!, that she can't take payment from me for the item until this issue was worked out and she'd call me back. Huh? There was nothing to work out the first time I talked to her and regardless, I thought I had worked it out by declining to give up the item. Finally I hear back from the same woman: the item was sold to someone on the floor and regardless of whether I declined to give it up or not and I couldn't have it. I reminded them that they already invoiced me for the item even though they obviously knew all along that it was sold to someone else. Amelia didn't care -- she said she's "just the receptionist." I cannot fathom how they could repeatedly notify me that I won the item, even sending me an invoice for the item, when they knew all along the item was sold to someone else. I cannot fathom why I was rudely told to call someone else the FIRST time I contacted Cordier about the opaque email I received. Why hadn't they cancelled the sale as is standard in this case? And on top of that, to send me an email requesting I decline the item because of THEIR clerking error???? Receptionist was rude and hung up on me. Do not waste your time with this place -- they make the rules and still can't manage to follow them, and they don't give a hoot about customer service or even kindness. read more

We bought a carpet at auction from these people through the online bidding site invaluable. Paid $375usd for what was represented to be a genuine "Persian Hereke Silk Prayer Rug". The description as written by Ellen Miller - Licensed Auctioneer/Certified Appraiser Director of Catalog & Specialty Auctions Cordier Auctions & Appraisals read as follows; "DESCRIPTION: Persian silk prayer rug, probably Hereke, having double columns and full field floral decoration on an ivory ground. MEASUREMENTS: 3' x 4'8". CONDITION: Minor wear." Sounds all very informed and professional right? And as a buyer one has a reasonable expectation that someone who claims to be a Certified Appraiser will give an honest, informed and accurate description and representation of items offered for sale right? Wrong, in this case. It seems despite her stated qualifications Ms Miller does not know that Persian rugs come from Iran and Hereke is a well known designation for rugs made in Turkey. There is no such thing as a Persian Hereke rug. I wonder how we check up on her qualifications?. It gets worse. As it turned out when the rug was taken to a reputable rug dealer, Boft Fine Rugs in Calgary for cleaning it was immediately pronounced to be an obvious fake of Chinese manufacture. At least it was actually real silk. Okay, it's a nice carpet, real silk, but the point is had we known it was Chinese, not Persian or Hereke as represented we would not have bid on it. When we contacted Cordier Auctions and finally spoke to Ms Miller she was unapologetic, defensive,and disputatious, When we offered to settle for a return of the buyer's premium, a mere $75.00 to avoid expensive shipping back to the USA and further hassle, Ms Miller would not settle for her misrepresentation, stating that the consignor had already been paid out. It certainly appears that Ms Miller's knowledge of good business practice is at least equal of her ability as a rug appraiser. read more

I have done extensive business with this auction house. The people are intelligent, polite, hard working, honest and fair. I am looking forward to the next auction. I would recommend this auction to anyone wanting to sell, or to buy. Very professional representation of the items they sell. Cordier responded to my Yelp review with the false claim that bidders were notified in advance of the pickup times and the offsite location. Both statements are disingenuous. Cordier disclosed neither claim in its listing at LiveAuctioneers, and I suspect they knowingly withheld the info because they knew that the limited pickup times would discourage out-of-state buyers from bidding. Instead, Cordier said nothing in its listing, and waited until 48 hours prior to auction to send a message to registrants' LiveAuctioneers mailboxes disclosing the ridiculous (or as Cordier says, "updated") shipping/pickup policies. The Bait & Switch pickup policy is used by Cordier to justify hefty surcharges. read more

I've bought and sold from auctioneers for over 50 years. I would think this business would allow people to view the items coming up for sale at auction during regular business hours most days. After-all, what you are auctioning off is your product and if people can't see the product in person then it's hard to establish a value. You may have heard of the term "buying a pig in a poke". The photos don't show enough to gamble away money on higher priced items. read more

Bought a set of leather books on line as a live in a different state. Auctioneers are supposed to provide an accurate description as this is not Craigs List. When I received the books I found there was massive damage to the gold leaf on the pages that was not shown in the auction photos. This was not an accident. They lack integrity and were deceitful. Was totally screwed on an auction today they were hosting. These people DO NO UNDERSTAND the basic rules that apply to an absentee bid. FOR ANYONE WANTING TO ABSENTEE BID USING THIS AUCTION SITE, SUCH AS PROXIBID OR INVALUABLE, THERE'S A VERY GOOD CHANCE YOU WILL GET SCREWED. I placed an absentee bid on a Joslyn revolver, lot #23, for $1200.00. I was not online to see the auction unfold, but evidently the auctioneer just is just incompetent, they have a lack to personnel or software to execute an absentee bid, or both. Apparently the auctioneer executed bids up to my $1200 and awarded the floor bidder the $1200 winning bid. I called twice to get an explanation, but was given a very poor one, the two ladies I spoke with were offering no reasonable explanations for the errors. The last person I spoke with, possibly the owner, said it was up to auctioneer's discretion who he wants to apply bids to. I asked if a live bidder could take precedent over an internet bidder, by leaving the same bid, and I was told "NO". She said everyone is allowed to bid just like myself. I tried to explain to her my "absentee" bid of $1200 was placed on 6/22, accepted and placed through INVALUABLE, and should of taken precedent over the $1200 live bidder, her response "we couldn't go any higher, you did not bid $1300"....Huh....These people obviously use their "LIVE" bidders to avoid worrying about getting paid, shipping, etc. SHAME ON YOU CORDIER AUCTIONS!!!!!!!!", OR, THEY JUST DON'T KNOW WHAT THEY ARE DOING. I had an appointment for a written appraisal with Mr. Cordier on 9/18/19. It took some doing to get the appointment. I arrived with my oil painting on time. I was told by the front desk person that Mr. Cordier would arrive "any minute." After waiting a about 15 minutes, a woman who didn't identify herself ask me for some details on my painting and said she'd do some internet research. I continued to wait for Mr. Cordier. The woman came back to me and said my painting was worth about $3,000. I asked if Mr. Cordier would be looking at it. She looked surprised and said yes. An hour later, I was about to leave when Mr. Cordier breezed in. No apologies for keeping me waiting. He asked some questions and then said he'd do some research. He came back and said the painting was worth about $4,500-7,000, or possibly as much as $12,000. I questioned the previous value given to me earlier. He basically said "It depends." I was told I'd have a written appraisal mailed to me. Nearly five weeks later, no appraisal. In summary: don't bother. read more
