I hate leaving bad reviews and I don't think I've ever written less than a 3 star review on Yelp but holy cow....this is the worse service I have ever experienced at a restaurant. We had made a reservation well in advance for a party of 10 with no issues. Upon arrival the restaurant looks nice and food sounded delicious. Yes, we had 2 additional people join our group but they were able to rearrange the table with what seemed like no issue. After placing an order, we proceeded to wait 90 minutes for our food. Although I could deal with the delay in the food, what I cannot deal with is the sassy and snarky comments from both our waitress AND the manager!!! After about an hour we asked how much longer and we're told "oh well you have a large order and we only have 3 people in the kitchen". Hmmmm, it's a Saturday night and you knew we were coming.... finally at an hour and 15 minutes when our food starts to go up ok the counter, our waitress now intentionally continues to walk by our food for ANOTHER 15 minutes because she's salty we asked to see the manager. She also thanks the table next to us (who has been there for 20 minutes) for "being so patient" very loudly so we all could hear. We ended up paying for our drinks and leaving before our food arrived (who knew 2 hours wasn't enough time for dinner with a reservation?!). I don't mind if you are running behind but I do mind if you get an attitude and then act petty when we ask a reasonable question about how much longer the food will take. So sad read more

I have been to The Cork & Cleaver twice in the last two weeks. The first time, I was with my brother, son, daughter-in-law, and grandson (8 years old) to celebrate my son's new job. When we entered, we were enthusiastic because of the great ambiance. We had reservations and were seated right away. I have a lot of food allergies, so I usually inspect the menu online, looking for entrees I can eat. I had my heart set on the lobster and crab mac and cheese. The photo was tempting...a large glob of lobster and crab nestled atop a large bowl of mac and cheese with more seafood throughout. After a few minutes, the waitress came by and took our appetizer and dinner order. Thirty-five minutes went by, and my son asked the gal where our appetizers were. She said she'd check. After about another 7-10 minutes, the fried green tomatoes came out. They were delicious. It was another 45 minutes before our main entrees were delivered. My lobster and crab mac and cheese was set down in front of me. It didn't look quite right, but I couldn't figure it out. I dug in, and what was in front of me was a delicious, creamy, cheesy mac and cheese with a few teensy pieces of seafood in it. When I got home, I checked the online photos only to discover that what was missing was the large glob of seafood positioned on the top of the mac and cheese. So, $18 for a large bowl of mac and cheese. The waitress should have recognized that my dish was not right. The restaurant was not full at all. There was a large table outside, but I saw only two servers on a Friday night. The entire dinner took almost 2 hours. And that was without dessert. My grandson's chicken fingers were delicious...the largest and best-tasting I've ever had. The others were fairly satisfied with their meals. Well, the next week, a friend of ours came into town from Chicago. I made reservations once again at The Cork & Cleaver, hoping our second try would be much better. Once again, I made reservations for 4 people. My husband asked about the pastrami sandwich that we did not notice the week before. He asked if it was made out of brisket or round. He did not know, but checked with the kitchen. He said it was brisket and that it was a new menu item that they had not yet perfected. He told us that most customers don't like it, so... We had heard that the burgers are great, so all of us ordered burgers. When the waiter asked me how I wanted it cooked, I said medium rare. He then made a face and said, "You don't want some burger bleeding all over your plate, do you?" I said, "Does your chef cook medium rare burgers rare? I've never had one that bled all over my plate." He told me I wouldn't like it that rare. So, three of us who wanted medium rare took him seriously because he should know the food and how it comes out of the kitchen. We all agreed that we'd better order them medium. Well, after a very long wait (an hour), we got our burgers, which were not medium rare. They were medium well. We didn't want to send them back because it was so late and we were terribly hungry. Then, we decided to order dessert. As the waiter listed them, he said, "Oh, yes, I think we have one piece of cheesecake left , but it's from Sam's. It made us wonder about the other desserts. With nobody left in the place, it took over a half hour to get our desserts...desserts which should have been ready to go...creme brulee and bread pudding. I had to call a waiter over to find out what happened to our desserts. He saw me waving to him, but he wouldn't come to the table. I almost had to get up to escort him over to the table. The bread pudding was the best I've ever had, and the creme brulee was very good, too. Why is the service so bad? Why do the chefs send out food that is not prepared properly? This place is hit or miss. After two meals of over $100 each, we think that if we return, it will be to get dessert. From the comments, I can see that this place has been around for at least 2 years. I had never heard of it. The service and food are inconsistent. I wish the restaurant could get its act together. It has some very good points, but the overall experience is disappointing. read more

My husband and I were passing through on our way home after a cross-country trip. It was the last night of our five-week vacation, and we were ready to celebrate. The restaurant is located in a nice enough location, sort of an outdoor shopping mall. We were happy that there was outdoor dining, and we were able to bring our small dog. Luckily, it was a beautiful evening. Alex, the server, was terrific, helpful, friendly, and efficient. My husband's martini was made to order, just as he liked it. Unfortunately, the food was disappointing. I ordered the shrimp scampi, and it was listless and boring, totally lacking in flavor; heavy on pasta, light on shrimp. It was as if the shrimp was boiled, rather than sauteed, and the sauce was nondescript. I added a lot of salt and pepper, but it didn't help. The best part was the garlic bread that was served with the scampi. My husband's salad, the kale and avocado with the addition of salmon, was good but unimaginative. The avocado mixed well with the watermelon radish, but the salad would have been greatly improved with a flavorful dressing. To summarize, thumbs up for the ambiance and service; however, the food was pedestrian and ho-hum. We would not go back. read more

I've been three times to The Cork & Cleaver. I've gone for dinner, drinks and appetizers, and lunch one time each. Dinner was yummy. We had a table of 7. Everyone enjoyed their dinner. Table said steaks were cooked as ordered. I had the shrimp pasta. It was more than enough for one person. We ordered the artichoke crab dip which I really enjoyed. One person had the steak sandwich and said it was great. At lunch I had the catfish taco. I really enjoyed the sauce that was on the tacos. My grandmother ordered the club sandwich with fries. She said it was good. We all enjoyed some of her fries. They are real potatoes not frozen pre-cut fries from a bag. They were cooked to perfection with a nice seasoning on them. I also went with a girlfriend for an after work drink. We sat at the bar. Bartender was friendly and made sure our wine glasses never emptied!! We ordered the loaded fries. Some of the best loaded fries I've had. I will definitely be back!! read more

The Cowboy burger was everything I could ask for in a burger, all of the flavors complimented each other perfectly. Probably one of the best burgers I've ever had. The grilled vegetables were just okay, nothing special, could use a little bit more seasoning. The other side I ordered was the gouda grits. They were not good. I'd say three and half stars for this place. So I ordered through Grub Hub for pick-up, I always give these types of orders a little more lead way. I get notified from grub hub my order was ready so I drive over. When I walked in I was greeted by the bar tender who tried to seat me when I told him I had an order for pick-up. He seemed perplexed, checked his screen and then notified me that someone confirmed that they received the order but it was not done. He said it'll be about ten minutes and I said okay, and he walked over to his kitchen staff and told them to start on my order. When it was done they handed it to me and I walked outside and checked my order to make sure I had everything. Luckily I did, they had forgotten a side I had ordered. I went back in and said there was a side I didn't get to the bar tender. He seemed to have some sort of attitude or wasn't happy about it went to his kitchen staff and told them to make it. When I got back home to eat my burger there was no condiments on it, which I appreciate but don't. No soggy bread, but I had to get my own at home. Then the egg on my sandwich was broken, I'm not sure if it was there before I left or if it broke on the way home (though I don't believe it would have). The taste was a burger, the fries we seasoned well (old bay) and my side was good. But over all not truly impressed. read more

We came to this place for dinner on our way thru town from Nashville. We had high hopes because we love Gastropubs but unfortunately were pretty disappointed. Our experience was underwhelming overall. It didn't start off on a good foot when my drink wasn't delivered until my food arrived. Half of our table's orders were delivered almost 10 minutes before the other 2 meals arrived, so some of us were almost finished eating by the time the rest of the food arrived. The fried oysters & fried green tomato appetizers were excellent. The shrimp scampi and fish tacos were bland. I thought the cowboy burger was just ok. The meat was pretty tasty but the rest of the burger needed to be a little more imaginative. We're used to getting incredible gourmet burgers in Nashville all the time, so our expectations were pretty high. The service was good. Our server was attentive and very friendly. My wife and I were looking for a gastropub off I65 N while traveling back to NE MS from Florida. We were looking for something with vegetarian options and found Cork and Cleaver on line and were very thankful we did. We were greeted promptly and sat at the bar where we were once again pleasantly greeted by our bartender and server Hunter. He expertly answered our questions and gave us very personable service while keeping up with the floor drink orders. My wife and I both enjoyed a glass of wine from their adequate menu and our food was most impressive. She enjoyed a collection of sides-risotto with mushrooms, grilled green beans, roasted Brussel sprouts, and sweet potato fries- all of which were excellent. I had the kale and avocado salad with pacific salmon which was amazing. The lemon vinaigrette dressing was very good and the salmon was outstanding and perfectly cooked. Or experience far exceeded our expectations. We look forward to stopping our next time through. read more

I almost don't want to write this review because I'd like to keep this place a secret. But, it was too good of a dining experience not to share. We got there during happy hour and took advantage by getting some cocktails and a couple of appetizers. First was the pork belly. If you've never tried it, the name can be off putting. But when prepared well, it's love at first bite. That's exactly what we got. The chef nailed it, serving it on a bed of marscapone potatoes. Not many places in Montgomery serve pork belly. So definitely try it when you go. Next was the fried oysters topped with remoulade and a roasted garlic puree. Another great choice. We were so full from appetizers that we asked if we could split an entree and opted for the filet. It was very good, along with the roasted brussel sprouts. The food, service, and value were all 5-star level. I did feel the casual decor didn't match the quality of the food. But the manager, Ryan, wants to make the place inviting for a diverse customer base. He mentioned they may be adding some chorizo dishes to the menu soon. So I'll definitely be going back! read more
