An excellent selection of quality meat. Prices are very reasonable. I recommend you take the time to drop in a look at all they have.

Star was my 'go to' for convenience when I lived around the corner on Ward Avenue in 5 Points…read more Then, it was a great place to pick up a last minute item ranging from almost everything from soap to soup. Moving on a little bit, pre-COVID my sorority sister's weekly Wednesday evening get together was held just around the corner in 5 Points and nearly every week I popped in to Star Market for an item to round out our "girls night out" meal - always adding on a Terry's pizza (pepperoni) as take out for the hubs. On some occasions we would cook at sister's house and need an item such as premixed salad to complete the meal du jour, or sometimes we would pick up dinner "to go" at Ted's BBQ next door and a sister would request an appetizer like cheese and crackers which I would pick up from Star. Star is a local grocery store, meaning smallish in terms of physical size and stock when compared to something like Kroger or Publix. However, they are renowned for their meat/butcher section. They have some good "grab and go items" I think we got black eye peas on several occasions; they have a nice wine selection -they carry Simply Naked unoaked pinot grigio AND (I may be wrong about this ) Simply Naked unoaked chardonnay. Both varietals are a good price and even when stocked in the middle of the aisle have a nice chill. These are an inexpensive, decent wine, at a great price point. Don't stop there, Star carries an extensive variety of reds/whites - so a convenient wine "score" for our get togethers. Star has a bakery and a good selection of bakery items. I do not eat sweets and had to pick up last minute cupcakes as we girls were celebrating a birthday - grabbed some from the deli case all set to go and my sorority sister's were not happy with them proclaiming them "dry and stale." I didn't bother returning them to Star, however if I lived closer I would have and I'm certain they would have refunded the cost of the cupcakes. At least they were cute to look at with little plastic fake children's rings adorning each cupcake. :) Pros about Star: I love their friendly staff and the fact that they do not allow their employees to use cell phones while working. The staff are always friendly and helpful in offering to help you to your car with your groceries (except the one time a bottle of wine of mine was bagged poorly and broke in the parking lot - darn it.) They carry "specialty items" (my words not theirs) that you can't find in your big box grocery stores. For example, we love "Bishop's 3 'N' 1 Stuff Bar-B-Que Sauce" and guess what, Star has that! I can't find it anywhere else in Madison county. My sorority sister from TX stocks up on either a jam/jelly or specialty honey that she and her Daddy *adore* on biscuits when she is in town, specifically from Star. Thanks Star for stocking these items! Cons about Star: the parking lot. Good lawd, this parking lot has tiny spaces and is cramped with poorly designed entrance/exit points. I cannot count the times I've nearly missed (thankfully) an accident in the parking lot. Pro tip: park at 1892 restaurant or the adjacent laundry mat and make a quick walk to Star for better parking options. The other con is the price. Star is more expensive than say, Publix or Kroger - for me, it would never be a place I would be happy to obtain my weekly groceries due to how expensive most items are. Get yourself to Star for their excellent butcher, meat selection, well trained staff and specialty items and don't forget to get a baked or "take and bake" Terry's pizza - enjoy a slice of Huntsville!

I hope they will add the sun dried or roasted pepper bruschetta. Their Dave's Killer Bread toasts up nicely for a homemade yet Healthy Restaurant Quality Bruschetta (pronounced broo~sket~ta in Italian). Five Stars! 5*

I came back home for a visit after being transferred to Cape Canaveral from Redstone three years…read moreago. I couldn't wait to be here for the 4th of July and spend time with family. One of the first things I did was head to Star Market to see Mike and Jeremy (Mister Berk Berk) in the meat department. But to my surprise, neither of them work there anymore even Mike, the store manager, is gone. I also noticed that the ladies in the deli, Randy, and several other familiar faces were no longer there. As I walked through the meat section, everything looked awful. The quality just wasn't the same. I was genuinely disappointed. Later, I talked to my mom and some neighbors, and they all said the same thing: they've stopped shopping there. Even though the store may look better after the remodel, they feel it's lost the charm and personal touch it once had. I can vouch for that no one even as so much as said hi. My mom said she was glad Publix opened back up because she hated having to get her meds there and groceries all the way in Hazel Green. She shops at Whole Foods and Fresh Market lately. I hadn't realized Publix had remodeled or that the new Food City had opened, so I went to check them out. Honestly, I don't know what really happened to Star Market, but with the new competition, it feels like their days are numbered. It was shocking to hear how quickly things went downhill. Especially since I have been shopping there since it was a Lucky's. No wonder so many of the employees I once looked forward to seeing have moved on. They were the reason I always chose Star over Publix, the people made the difference. Sadly, that's gone now. I know I won't be going back, as well as many of my neighbors expressed as well.
