Someone else fries the food and all they do is serve it. That's also a red flag. The portion sizes are super small as well. If you go down there road you can get larger portion sizes. I don't see employees with phones and the person taking orders and handling money most of the time so when I see hands touching money or cards and then the drink cup rims my brain says to ask for a clean cup. The owner goes 2x/week to the gulf to load up coolers and bring the fresh haul back to the shop. There is no fishy smell, no slimy looking fillets or shellfish, just your briny smell of the ocean and the bounty that came from the sea. While the offerings can be seasonal, the gulf produces some standard things that will always be there: salmon, ahi, and yellowtail are sashimi grade and looked amazing. I was there for shrimp and you can get damn-near tiger sized gulf shrimp for the price the large grocers carry. No contest there. They also have things you don't typically see around here (fresh) - mahi, snapper, seabass, etc... the quality stands on its own here and the owners are a pure joy to talk with about their offerings. I won't buy seafood anywhere else, as long as I have the luxury to plan enough in advance.

It boasts what is undeniably the most mammoth Mexican Candy/Snack selection hereabouts (brands include: Pica-Bola; Betamex; Duvalín; Nucita; Jovy; Bubbaloo; El Chavo; Dulces Tipicos). That gives it skreet cred...who DOESN'T like candy and snacks? There's a nice Carnicería in the back...didn't really look at the health score, but everything looks nice and fresh. Good place for, for instance, homemade Chorizo; recently on FB, they announced they were offering Barbacoa, Pollo Rostrisado, and Carnitas. The produce section is nice, but I think I prefer Guanajuanto on those items. However, the Baby Mangoes are inviting...and if you're thinking of using, say, Cilantro, or lemon-infused Mayo, do stop off at one of our Mexican grocers. Although there are two Mexican bakeries in town, Pan Dulce and such are trucked in from Albertville's Guelagetza Bakery and Juquilita Bakery in Morristown, TN. I recommend La Colonial over on Jordan for fresher, immediate, in-house offerings (although its grocery section is not as extensive...go to both places!). You'll find Montes™ Blue Corn Tortillas; Cal-C-Tose; Choco Milk; Mojo Criollo Marinade. They also carry Cruz de Malta™ Yerba Mate in both Orange and Lemon...which I need to try, ASAP...a good selection of cheeses and other dairy products (the refrigerated area looks pretty good...Queso Oaxaca; Crema Guatemalteca; Agria El Mexicano). A visit is definitely worth your time, though language may be a problem if you're not Spanish savvy. However, they are comparatively friendly and you can usually find someone who can clue you in.
