Don't let the appearance keep you from going in. The prices are great!!! The best time to go is during the week, not the weekend.

Once you get…read moreseafood from A&V, you will make the drive when you want good, fresh, and reasonably priced seafood. It is THAT big of a difference from anywhere else in Huntsville that I had gotten seafood from, and I regret it taking me as long as it has to find them. The owner goes 2x/week to the gulf to load up coolers and bring the fresh haul back to the shop. There is no fishy smell, no slimy looking fillets or shellfish, just your briny smell of the ocean and the bounty that came from the sea. While the offerings can be seasonal, the gulf produces some standard things that will always be there: salmon, ahi, and yellowtail are sashimi grade and looked amazing. I was there for shrimp and you can get damn-near tiger sized gulf shrimp for the price the large grocers carry. No contest there. They also have things you don't typically see around here (fresh) - mahi, snapper, seabass, etc... the quality stands on its own here and the owners are a pure joy to talk with about their offerings. I won't buy seafood anywhere else, as long as I have the luxury to plan enough in advance.

Our eyes popped, mouths fell agape, and rumors of fainting abounded. The overall shopper's experience here is the best in Decatur. Among the Pan Dulces (Conchas, Ojo de Buyes, and such), we espied something similar enough to Chocolate-covered Doughnuts to make us kill for it. But we had a bag of goodies we'd already purchased and somehow staved ourselves off. Formerly at 6th Avenue, LEF&FM is a must visit. Oddly, four of the other Supermercados are within walking distance and thus in direct competition, a move seemingly both unwarranted and unwise, unless a concentrated Hispanic population in the immediate area ensures their collective viability. I can't say. The first items you'll notice as you walk in are the greens and such in the well-stocked and eye-catching produce area, and the atmosphere was well ratcheted up in our estimation due to the fact that the employees were all friendly. LEF&FM had a wonderful dairy department, stocked with Queso this, Quesillo that, Quesadillo these, and Crema those. Some cheeses had Jalapeno, others, Loroco, which is evidently a flower bud of Central American origin. The popular Cotija Molido, which is merely grated Cotija, was also evident. It's one of the crumbly cheese you'll see in Mexican food...in fact, I believe it's one of the ones of which you might say, "Why doesn't it melt?" In addition to the bakery and dairy areas, the display of "soda pops" (to import a term) and such was better than average. Yes, they have Jarritos, but also have Foco, Boing!, Tiky, and several others, some of which are actually Asian in origin, rather than Mexican or South American. We are already talking about returning here...and that's a thirty-plus-minute trip. And we won't come back empty handed. Possibly in a sugary haze, but not empty handed.

The only reason we didn't buy these is that we'd already eaten elsewhere AND bought elsewhere.

They take orders of fresh meats and seafoods and can source almost anything fresh: think exotics, thanksgiving turkeys, and in-season seafood. Crown roast of pork is the "fanciest" meat I have ever prepared, and the hubs doesn't eat red meat. That being said, their meat selection is excellent, and the dry aging process is so intriguing to me! Dry aging intensifies flavor and promotes tenderness. The equipment to dry age like Corkshire has is apparently pricy. I was impressed by their price points on nearly everything, beef to seafood! This shop is beyond clean, the staff are friendly and for me, it's just fun to see what's on display in the dry-aging section. I'm excited Corkshire is in our little town and offers exciting options in terms of meats and seafood. Thanks Salty Cod and Corkshire!

I was first drawn to them after calling and finding out they had plate beef ribs to make those "dianasaur ribs" you see on TV. Yep they had them, along with other exotic meats I never thought I'd run into in a small butcher store in northern Alabama. Since then, it's been my go-to store for special event steaks and such where I want something a notch above what we find in the stores. Yes, the pricing is a little higher, but your paying for the quality. Actually it's still a savings compared to what you'd get in a restaurant if you went there for the same steak! I live in Florence and have to travel to get there, but it's worth it. Their service has always been friendly and welcoming each time, so giving them my patronage is also worth it to me to help keep this gem in business!
