They support local family growers and independent winemakers and have created a place for small producers to craft and feature their wines.  I recently visited with a friend and our seated tasting was hosted by the owners, Mark and Missy. During our entire tasting they shared their wine knowledge and passion for wine making. We tasted two Chardonnays and two Pinot Noirs. About 4 months or so ago I ran across this wineries name in an email I had received. I checked out…read moretheir website and liked what I read so I then check to see if they had a Yelp page, which they didn't so I quickly created a page and then bookmarked it as I wanted to visit this tasting room on my annual day after Thanksgiving yearly wine tasting with my friend (this year it was postponed by one day but still fun none the less!). Since this seemed like a small winery, I was definitely interested in tasting their wines. I like small wineries, not the big commercial conglomerates, because to me after a while the large wineries tend to be more commercialized and all about the dollar rather than perfecting the taste of the wines, trying to find that right balance. On 11/26/22 I drove us to William Henry Wineworks to start our tasting. There's ample parking outside, a few tables/chairs in front for outdoor tasting and inside there are several options for your seated tasting from table/chairs, a couch to barstools at the bar. There is also a television set and a record player (yes you heard me correctly, record player as in vinyl albums) so you can pick all types of music to listen to while you are tasting. We were greeted by Mark Ray, owner and winemaker who is originally from South Carolina. Marks wife, Melissa, does the sales & marketing for the company. They actually named the winery after their 2 sons, William & Henry. Mark went over the various tasting options that he had to offer and we decided to let him be our guide! We started with a 2016 Sonoma Coast Chardonnay called Melissa Kelly, named after his wife. My friend and I liked it so much we each bought a bottle. Actually, I bought 2 bottles as one was for my daughter. From there Mark took our palates on a world wind tour of their fabulous wines! We tasted in the following order: 2021 Grenache, Dry Creek Valley, Emmitt-Scorsone Estate 2021 Pinot Noir, Russian River Valley, Balletto Vineyards 2021 Pinot Noir, Russian River Valley, La Vista Vineyards 2018 Perception Pinot Noir, Russian River Valley, Bernie Orsi Vineyards 2012 Perception Pinot Noir Charlatan, Russian River Valley, Pinot Noir 2012 Zinfandel, Russian River Valley, Collins Vineyards, Old Vine (1934) Though, for me, it would be hard to choose a favorite besides the Chardonnay, I'd have to say I really enjoyed the Grenache as it was a lighter body Grenache. I really liked the 2018 Perception Pinot Noir over the 2012 Perception. And nothing can beat that Old Vine Zin! But they were all very good! I ended up getting a bottle of the Grenache to go along with the Chardonnay that I got and my friend purchase a mix of 4 bottles. This is definitely a tasting room that I will take out of town friends & family as well as good friends that love to taste wines! Who knows, I might be persuaded to cancel my current wine club and join theirs! Mark also mentioned that they were going to adding charcuterie and cheese plates in the future, which will pair splendidly with their wines! You won't be disappointed if you stop by here and try their wines!!

And the ambiance was inviting and good energy was in the room! There had to be 6 wineries there today and it was a good friendly environment for everyone!! I tried most of the wines and there are good wines being made everywhere I often say this and it's true! The Mad Marvus winery and Cidery was who I started with! And all of her juice is Organic and made with no SO2 which is a probiem because the no sulfur idea is not good and in general causes funky flavors all through the line up! And then I went over to ONWARD WINES - and these were very good and delicious on the whole then I took in a break outside in the heat but covered outside area. Then back inside to start again with SCHEMA WINES - it's her first release and she makes 2 wines, the first being an Aligote white wine much like the Aligote's of Burgundy France, as she described it like a cross between Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc and she also makes a very clean tasting Cab Franc. Nice Raspberry flavor juice. And then after that I went to TANSY WINERY, a nice but unknowlegable girl was working at the table she was sweet enough to get by the lack of knowledge and they were all Italian varietals and very good. Then I went to try the wines at the Grenachista which were overall delicious wines. Then another break and then I did the eponymous winery, the Two Sheperds Winery and most of what they're producing was great and delicious!! Doing a web search I came across Adrian Fog - seemed like what I was looking for. I was looking for that more intimate experience that didn't involve having to compete for room at the bar to get a 1oz pour of Chardonnay. So I called the number on the website. Stewart, answered - I asked him if Sunday was a possibility. He said "yep, as long as I'm in town and I think I will be." Okay cool. So other than knowing what was on the website - and that we were going to a warehouse and not some lavish tasting room we set out. We show up, sure enough he is there to meet us. Stewart Dorman, it turns out, is the owner and wine maker. So the owner and winemaker drives out from Healdsburg just to meet with us to let us taste his creation. What terrific stuff this was. He produces around 4-5 single vineyard Pinot Noirs ranging from Sonoma as far north as Mendocino and the Anderson Valley. They'll only produce a few hundred cases...maybe 1,000 in total. Everything is made right there in his warehouse space..hidden among several buildings. And who is Adrian? Adrian comes from the Greek word for "dark"...I think the intention was something along the lines of "shrouded in the darkness of the fog" - to evoke a sense of mystery. As far the wine itself...no mystery about how high quality. Plenty of great fruit and nice finish with what we tasted...with some definite potential for longevity. So if you want to really have a personal, intimate tasting experience and don't want to do be lost among the usual wine country tourists, not to mention tasting something that you'll never find in any store (as distribution is essentially the winery plus several restaurants) then you'll want to make it here. As a side not they will actually be doing a winemaker dinner at Anthology (which I've also reviewed) later this year. So check it out...you'll have a great experience and some great wine.

The second was a single vineyard, single block offering, and of course both were super flavorful and delicious. He then proceeded to let us taste a glass right from the barrel, and it was already super rich and elegant. Yum! Stewart's descriptions and stories are worth the trip, and the chance to purchase such unique small offerings is highly recommended. Take a chance and check this incredible place out!

I called and left message, emailed them frequently few months. No one responded me. Still they sent me wine while they are not responding my emails or messages. Their wine is very pricey, every shipment I got 3 bottles. But I got charged $150-180s include shipping. Anyway I had to cancel my credit card to be out. Well, they started emailed me to update my information and Christina Foppoli called me and left message to update my info. I'm very disappointed with their service and pricey wine.

The wines are delicious, and my wife and I always get excited when we get the notification email every time a new three-bottle shipment has been released. The only difficulty we've ever had has been with their in-state shipper, who for some reason early in our membership didn't believe that my company's address was a real place. But that's not Foppoli's fault, and the problem has been sorted out for some time now. While I cannot speak to other customer's poor experiences, I have to say my own experience has been drastically different. As I say, we've been club members for several years now and it has been a very smooth ride. On another note, I have trouble with 1-star reviews based on something not being to the reviewer's specific taste. Like people that post reviews of restaurants like Alinea or The Bazaar and then bitch about the portion sizes and the length of the tasting menu. *That's what the restaurant is all about*; if you don't like that, then don't go. I personally don't care for Woody Allen movies, but I wouldn't give "Annie Hall" a 1-star review because of that. Bad customer service experiences are one thing, but as I say my own relationship with the family through the club has been trouble-free. Conversely, five-star reviews based on a one-off great experience are perhaps also equally useless.... for the reader to judge, I guess. Foppoli's raison d'etre is small-volume, high-quality production, and a no-frills tasting experience. As they say, you are literally guests in their home when you visit. Frankly, I found my time at Foppoli to be quite charming and a welcome relief from the million-dollar showcase tasting rooms at some places in CA. If you don't like that, fine. That's your taste, and I'm not going to criticize that. But keep it in perspective when writing your review. Is the wine well made and delicious? Do you think it's worth it? Are they serving their customers well? That's all that matters. And on those points, Foppoli has delivered for me.

I opted to take home a couple of bottles of that fell more at my price point considering the financial damage I did with 2 weeks in Napa... but I also had to take home that Lolita Pinot. Because I didn't finish writing my review, I'm blanking on the name of the girl that walked me through my tasting (Eliza?)- but she was fantastic. Knowledgeable about the winemakers and origin stories- why certain labels or wines were chosen- a very positive experience! While helping me she was also getting a group of ladies set up that were coming in for some Sunday Mahjong and wine. Perfect space for small events with friends while having various tasting counters and rooms in the immediate vicinity!
