On the rare occasion that I've interacted with the staff, they've been friendly and helpful! While the branch's Adult media lending portion is relatively small, that's OK since you can order online from NYPL's spectacular, vast collection to pick up here! Upstairs, while I haven't visited, there's a Children's section. The only real negative for this location is that talking and other noises from the Children's section reverberate throughout the downstairs non-Children's space. A 2nd Floor noise barrier between the space and stairs might help alleviate the regular sounds of constant tumult heard by 1st Floor patrons. Also, I've noted some people who bring kids to this 1st Floor section to do homework can be quite chatty and, while fantastic and I absolutely commend them for helping kids, it's not always at a volume respectful of others who come there to use the facilities - preferably in a silent atmosphere. On the whole, it's awesome that NYPL maintains this W. 115th St. branch for the community! Thank you, NYPL!

The layout of reading material is by floor so you navigate upward for age appropriate reading materials. Last time I was in the neighborhood I forgot to stop in. I'm definitely going to return when I'm in the neighborhood. I know you want to see photos. Here's a photo of the book that changed the food industry. Or has it? This library is on the Columbia University Medical campus. And for an Ivy League institution, you…read morewould expect more. But ever since I have been introduced to this world, I can't help but feel like an outcast. In any case, this is a review about the library and not about the wonderful world of Ivy League (read: pretentious, over-priced, privileged delusions). Here are some reasons why this library totally blows: 1. Why are the bathrooms in such disrepair? For Buddha's sake, the public health school is housed here, can we at least get some decent sanitation? 2. Why are the printers, copiers, staplers always broken or jammed? 3. I def do not like this one dude that works the evening desk, he always has some sort of attitude when I ask for a reference book. Look, there are plenty of unemployed people who could gladly and willingly take your job. 4. The people working the help desk usually don't want to help you. 5. Poorly constructed building with confusing elevators and terrible signs. So, for 50K, you buy the name of this institution and you get to hang out in this crappy library for most of your days. Maybe that online degree from Phoenix wasn't such a bad idea after all.

Love the view in the Riverview Lounge - used to bring my laptop and camp out in the quiet study area. Anatomy + view of the hudson, what more can I ask for? haha. It was also where my dance team had rehearsal during my first year... and where all the fancy post seminar luncheons were held. My only complaint to this place is the spotty reception on the second floor computer lab. Maybe I should blame t-mobile but I can never receive any calls or texts whenever I'm up there. Will continue to study/work on whatever project i have here.. until i graduate. 1.5 years in counting!

The Explorers Club was always near the top of my list. When I met with the librarian, I noticed a balsa wood piece on a nearby file cabinet. I asked about that and was told "It is a piece of the original Kon Tiki." Later, I noticed some file cabinets with the label "Roosevelt." It turned out that those were s collection of lantern slides from Theodore Roosevelt, taken on trips like his honeymoon in Egypt or his expedition to the River of Doubt in Brazil. I would always ask about who is the most famous person who has visited that library. In Explorers Club, the question is almost meaningless. Every astronaut who had walked on the moon, Steven Hawking, Kings and presidents had walked in this building. I was shown a collection of books that were not notable which books they were, but by their history - they had been locked into a hut near the North Pole and recovered. You will need to make advance arrangements to visit this library, but it is the visit of a lifetime if you do.

When my internet was out and I was looking for apartments on craigslist which is blocked at my office I was there daily! It literally saved my life. I never would have been able to find a new apartment with out thier free interenet access. (You can sign up for a terminal in advance online too) Because it is a small location the selection can be limited so I request my books online and just have them sent there. I love LEO too!! I get a little notice in my email letting me know when i have something waiting for me! Its fabulous! I order so many that I usually have a few waiting for me. I am in and out with a few great books that I am really into in less than 5 minutes! I don't even have to wait until my lunch break! FABULOUS

This is the only library in New York that is located underground right outside the subway. If you…read moreare coming from uptown you take the 6 train to 51st street and exit the front. You walk one level and you will see the library. The street level is one more level up. If you are coming from the downtown platform you will have to exit the street and walk back down to this entrance. The plus side is that they have free WiFi and laptops to loan. It is also laptop friendly with electrical outlets. The downside is that there is no bathroom for the public to use. They have one in the back if you can convince the librarians to let you use it. Starbucks is at street level if you really need to go. Its a small library but good if you want to return your books and not go out into the street. You will have exit the Subway turnstile to get to the library, good if you got an unlimited metrocard.

This is most unfriendly library towards children. They should put someone more friendlier in the…read morechildren section who has more patient. Some of the people in the front desk get be sometimes rude towards children and even the adults. One of my friends stop going there to taking her child for book reading. In spite of other libraries, this is the only one which does not have any toys for children. The only thing they provide is crayons and painting papers.

Coming here on my lunch break, I could hardly find a parking spot in the adjacent street. Luckily, there are a lot of empty spots a block away into the neighborhood. What is great about this library is that every section is clearly labeled. I made the mistake of going to the visible DVD section to my left, only to find out that I was in the children's section. There are about six computer terminals and only two studying tables I think. As expected from seeing the Korean shopping center across the street, this library has a great Korean language collection of books, magazines, CDs, and DVD/VHS. I only wished that the librarians aren't so ignorant to put Korean and Chinese media DVD/VHS/CDs together in the same section, where they are mixed together. I have no idea how people try to find a specific media item since there doesn't seem to be a clear filing system. They have movie titles on cardboard that I can take out to rent them from the shelf behind the circulation desk. Unfortunately, I won't bother going through this section because it's too tedious to sort out Korean/Chinese/Mandarin/Cantonese languages. Ironically, with a library so ethnically strong with a foreign language collection, I do not see a language learning section in this library. If I get to come back here again, I'll find the time to ask the librarian since I didn't have much time to really walk around due to time constraints with the parking, etc. There is a formal checkout line for the sole circulation desk with one, young teen librarian on duty to check out materials. I'm sure that this library is great for all the Korean knowledge suckers out there. PROS: great Korean collection, library sections are clearly labeled CONS: mixes Chinese and Korean media together, missing language section, a bit difficult to find immediate parking

He came back later to stare at my game. I told him go away. He's preventing me from concentrating. He said it is a public space. Then the man's son started yelling at me. I told the librarian twice the man was bothering me and the librarian did nothing because the man harassing me was the same race. One manager targets me. She keeps interrupting my chess game and interrupted me using the computer to push me to see the DA's Office. I don't want legal issues and why wasn't the DA's office working instead of bothering people at the library. Printer wasn't working in the adults' section for three weeks.

Libraries are vital to our society, and unfortunately many libraries in Queens and across the city are facing tax cuts ,and as a result face shortened hours, and cutting of programs and weekend hours. Librarians in this library have grown to know me, and my family at this library on a first name basis, and I love it. There are petitions and many other things that need to be done to keep small local libraries like this one open. The book selection is vast, and because it is the most diverse borough, and has languages spoken from over 150 countries there are also books, and DVDs in other languages. You can of course use the copying machine, and computers, and there is also a corner just for children's books,and reading sessions. This is an after school destination and when I was younger I always went here to get my mind right, and do my homework. On a rainy day when your broke it's also a great place to take out movies for free 99! What's a better price than that? It turned out that this branch doesn't sell donated or deaccessioned books, alas. I think the librarian, a lovely and kind woman, told us that sales are centralized at only one location, which I forget. Maybe near Bryant Park? I love libraries, always have. Being surrounded by books brings me peace. So much knowledge! About everything!!! I tend to go down rabbit holes and want to learn everything I can about a particular topic. I like actual paper books, as my eyes tend to glaze over after reading a lot online. Please support your local libraries. They're a treasure, and so are librarians.
