We had fun chatting with them about the beers, the menu and the other local places and things to do. We had many samples and enjoyed a couple nice pours of great local beers. We also ordered some Wisconsin cheese curds, which were generous, crispy and filled with yummy goodness! The place is quaint with lots of history and character! We saw some of the food that came out and it looked amazing. If you are in Decorah I would highly recommend Dixie's!

First, I'd like to state that I have visited TG several times in the past. I was so excited to take my girlfriends as I had many amazing meals in the past with their vegan/vegetarian selections, and was confident we would all find something delicious. WOW. What a shock to see the "new" menu which had zero vegan options and the other items were basically an Applebees knock off. The sides we did piece together for a meal were ok and our one brave friend who ordered a chicken bacon wrap said it tasted like they made it hours ago and had no flavor or outstanding qualities. Our experience made me so sad and embarrassed for TG as we travel from out of state to visit decorah. We always look forward to our favorite pseudo sue and the menu, but sadly will probably never return. The restaurant was freezing, the service was not friendly, people had their toddlers screaming and running around at 9pm, just not what you want when you are looking to relax with a beer and food at the end of the day. If this is the demand here in decorah this is not it for your visitors.

They have a nice selection of interesting beers and sours. We enjoyed them all! Our 2 favorites were the salty dawg and Tingles (amazing). We ended up taking home a couple of 4 packs. Sadly they are gone already! The guys working this day were very friendly and helpful with selections and quick to serve! She mentioned "on the other side of the park is RockFilter Distillery, I sometimes work over there". I drove the two minutes around the park, from parking spot to parking spot to check it out. Parking was easy right out front along the curb. They had a windowed garage door they opened & a few tables & chairs about. I didnt know the fella i met as i came in was the co-owner/distiller! As i made my way to the bar, two gals working. I thought i heard one say to the other "mom"... no way, im crazy. Sure enough when i asked what she drinks? "Im not old enough, these are my parents." Solid!! I love a family run, local, small business!! Co-owner Kate did a FAB job explaining the tasting notes of the several drinks i inquired about!! I went w the Honey Bourbon. It was delicious but i opted to have what i came in for; an Old Fashioned! After, of course consulting Kate on whether she'd go w an Old Fashioned or New Old Fashioned? Its a cute tasting room. They have several bottles on the bar. I didnt see a couple bottles he referred to but i LOVED when he said it was his grandparents picture on the Rail Splitter, his uncle on a tractor on the Red Rider Rye and his great uncle on another!! How fun!! Rochester brewery Forager takes barrels after hes used them! I really like the old pulley above the bar for the lights. The old pipe as a bar footrest. I really liked the river bar top! For...everything ive mentioned; RockFilter is a must visit; err must imbibe. Chat up the owners. Take in the....history(?) ... story of RockFilter!! They have a wide variety of martinis, whether you like more of a fruity vibe, a dessert vibe, a chocolate vibe, they have it all! My go to is their namesake, the Starlite, though their seasonal drinks are not to be slept on!! My only gripe is that while I love live music, it is a smaller space so when there is live music, it is LOUD. Don't anticipate being able to hold a conversation during a band's set. The lounge is also on the second floor of a historic building... so be prepared for a rather steep set of stairs to take you there.
