It was ok while I attended, except financial counseling lacked, no help given to us at a tough time, Valley community church in pleasanton was truly walking in what they read & preached and helped us out of financial ruin and now we can actually tithe & give back. I came here for the first time this past Sunday with my bf, and we were thoroughly impressed. Both of us are familiar with formalized, stuffy churches run by pastors who have the gift of putting you to sleep within the hour. Not here though! The minister here has a sense of humor, ties his real life stories in with the scriptures, animates the verses in the Bible and sends an inspirational and spiritual message applicable to our lives. He does this with conviction and real passion. Additionally, maps, images and words on the two large projector screens on either side of the stage are used as visual aids to follow along during the message. There is nothing wrong with adding a little humor to the sermon. Laughter is good for the soul. It breaks up what could otherwise be a monotonous message by adding interest which gets people's attention to pay more attention to God's message. It is merely one quality of what makes this pastor a good speaker not the epitome of the sermon. Clearly Bill P. needs to loosen up and listen to the message which is not remotely a comedic show. Yes, this church is quite colossal. For this reason, I find it less intimidating. I also love the fact that it is also very diverse. I saw every race in attendance, couples, families and singles. That's what I call unity! If you miss a sermon, it's also online. Yes, we are definitely returning to hear more of God's word! read more

A very large and comfortable church that always offers a timely and relevant message from Pastor Steve. The church works easily with busy schedules as it even offers a service on Saturday. An intimate and strong community is maintained through numerous small home groups, a cozy coffee shop, and various outreach and volunteer opportunities. The first time I went was because I was meeting a friend from Tracy as a convenient mid point. We settled into the coffee shop to pass a bit of time before the message - and this is when my friend was on his phone and saw the news of the passing of Paul Walker... so after a quick Google search I can see that day was November 30, 2013. I have been many times since that time back in 2013. Pastor Steve has a passion and gift for what he does. Hes authentic and weaves in stories that make sermons more fun and memorable: like the story of the birds crashing into windows - and the possible meaning of that or the one sermon of fake versus flawed. For the record you aren't expected to somehow be perfect here. This is a church for strong believers and followers of Christ all the way to non believers or seekers. The church space is so large you will find a spot your comfortable in. Maybe your not the type to sit front and center - hands waving in the air... well, you can just hang in the coffee shop for the entire duration of the sermon where you can hear and see whats going on over the TV. This church is located at the border of Livermore and Pleasanton with many smaller satellite locations all over the bay. At a church with this many people and locations it is important to join a small group. Friends are made in volunteering situations and in smaller group settings where everybody works together toward a set goal. Go online and check out what is offered. I think people are like redwood trees - when we are "planted" in groups it makes us stronger and we hold each other up during the storms and learn from one another. Paul Walker got prayers from me that day but also learn from his mistake - driving in a 2005 model year car with 10 year old crusty tires with good tread depth - a problem that tends to happen in cars that are not driven often. Check in with your car enthusiast friends and even grandma with her 10 year old car with 20,000 miles and original factory tires - especially if it doesn't have an electronic stability program. Make some close Christian friends and join this community - or at least visit once or twice to see if its for you. read more

I have admired Steve Madsen and Mark Calcagno when they worked at Valley Christian back in the early 80's. These guys are solid so I am not surprised they helped make Cornerstone such a success! Cornerstone is an important part of my spiritual life and has helped keep my walk straight. The teaching is solid and life changing. We've been going here for 3 years now. No church is perfect. It's a big one and we prefer smaller. But in the midst of size the people are warm and the greeters friendly. The worship is sincere. Pastor Steve is gifted at expositing the scriptures into clear applications. It's easy to see how the church has grown. You'll encounter people from a broad swath of experience and backgrounds. Don't assume everyone is the same. When you're new it feels like that bit you'll soon find that it's pretty diverse. So no church is perfect. It's not supposed to be. But for us, it'd be hard to find better. read more

Cornerstone Fellowship - Livermore - Junior high ministry color game chaos! - Churches Near Me - Livermore, California

I grew up attending Catholic school and Catholic churches as a child, so coming here initially was definitely a culture shock. There is no communion, no priest, not even a Cross anywhere in the church. A lively band plays and sings your music. The auditorium is large and very modern with flat screen TV's and monitors projecting images from the stage and the latest sound-system equipment. The church is very large, so as others have noted, you can come here and never see the same person twice, and also not be disturbed by anyone since no one knows who you are. The church recommends joining their smaller life groups in order to meet people and make more of a personal connection. My husband, who also grew up Catholic, is not a fan of Catholic churches and since I'm ambivalent about them as adult, decided this non-denominational Christian church was a good compromise to start bringing our daughter to. They have a great kids program with tons of classes for kids of all ages. This I am most impressed with. My daughter loves the kids classes. We have friends who attend church here who were kind enough to introduce us to Cornerstone and welcome us in to attend with them and we are very thankful for their kindness. One small thing I don't particularly care for is that it seems every time Pastor Steve delivers his sermon, he tries to get in a thinly-veiled jab (or two) at our President or current politics. Hello, your main campus is in Livermore whose demographic I highly suspect is more Republican / Conservative than other areas in the Bay, and insulting him and his supporters seems well, insulting. I come here to listen to you preach a sermon, not preach about politics. None of the other pastors do this, I've only heard it from pastor Steve Madsen. Overall, the church is "good" for me, and seems to be great for my daughter. I sometimes wish I was part of a smaller church, but I come here mainly for my daughter, who loves the kids classes, has friends who attend with her, and says she doesn't wish to go anywhere else. And as long as my daughter WANTS to come to church, I am not going to push it! :D read more

This church is nothing like the boring old Mormon churches I went to as a kid. They have a coffee bar! You're not going to see that at Mormon church. I attended a funeral service for my boyfriends dear friend. She attended church at this location. The pastor personally knew her and her family. It was one of the warmest memorials I've been to. It was a celebration of her life and her devotion to god. The auditorium is huge. They must have quite the congregation that comes to their services. It's all very modern and inviting. The sound system was in point. I was very impressed with this church. I'm no longer of the church going disposition but I can appreciate nice things when I see them. read more

How safe are our children? Children's ministry is an important one. We had a negative experience in regards to their policy and procedures where they allowed a volunteer, and not their mandated reporter to repeatedly interrogate And investigate children they assumed had been abused. Leave your children only with people you trust and not just random volunteers. Ask about what their policy and procedures are on taking a child to the bathroom or questioning a child. I'm disappointed in how this has traumatized our children and family. When we addressed this issue to their directors we did not receive the support we thought a Christian community would provide example ... prayer for our family. read more

I can relate to some of the comments here. There are going to be things we like and dislike about any of our chosen spiritual pathways. No one is going to appreciate 100% of a church service unless you are just there to say amen to everything regardless. That said, Cornerstone is the only church I have ever been able to tolerate and I dare say, I enjoy. I don't agree with everything said by all of the pastors but I know they are speaking from their heart and are being completely selfless in their approach. of course, every church has to take donations and a place like Cornerstone is a palace that needs upkeep. I don't blame them one bit for fundraising. This church has a great fellowship, many groups, workshops, classes, activities to take part in. Everyone I have met there has been welcoming. The services are great too. I always take away a positive message and things to think about. You get out of it what you invest into it emotionally and spiritually. Well I've held off on reviewing Cornerstone because I wanted to have an accurate picture before I shared my opinions. Let me first state that I was one of those people who hadn't been to church in 10+ years except for the occasional funeral or wedding, and even being in a church was uncomfortable. Having said that I'll now say that Cornerstone is my home. The first time I went the lady sitting next to me caught up with me after the service and was so sweet I felt at ease giving her the cliffnotes of what brought me.. I thought to myself "how unusually nice" The second time I went, a different woman (who had also been sitting next to me) did the same.. And the third time a really nice girl gave me her cell phone number and invited me to a really nice potluck. The 4th time I went the same.. I feel like I belong, and everyone is so loving and welcoming it feels great to get up early (for me, on the weekend) and go to church. The services are beautiful, well planned, and amazing. (abd Pastor Steve is HILARIOUS) The music makes you feel like you're at a rock concert, and the coffeeshop is amazing! (try the caramel apple cider, you'll thank me) I just can't say enough about what Cornerstone has grown to mean to me in such a small time. If you're reading this, and you're curious.. Go! I'm not real big on organized religion. My past experiences have shown me that it is full of hypocrisy and judgment. Nevertheless, I felt my life was missing something - so I decided to try Cornerstone. This place is huge - but meticulously organized!! Stadium seating and monitors keep this place high tech. I love the music (no poorly sung hymns) and the "come as you are" attitude. Every sermon I am able to apply to my life - I always feel like pastor Steve is talking directly to me. I've only been going here for a short time and I already know this is the place for me. The Children's ministry is outstanding and my kids absolutely love it here. The summer camps are a bit pricey - so I applied for a scholarship for my son. Thanks to the Children's ministry - we can afford to send him (they took $200 off). He is so excited. This review is for the Hayward campus of this church. The service is held in the movie theater in downtown Hayward. Sounds wierd right? Well let me tell you it's pure genious! I've been a church goer all my life. Some of the less desirable things about church I've experienced over the years have included uncomfortable seating, formalities like not being allowed to bring food or drink into the sanctuary, tiny low tech screens and sound systems used in the worship service and having to stare at the backs of people's heads. While these factors have not deterred me from attending, they have certainly not been a plus factor in my worship experience. Well, cornerstone has solved for all of these "minus" factors by having service in the theater. Plus, there is a wonderful coffee and crepe shop right at the entrance to the theater, and lots of free donuts and pastries the church offers in case you didn't have a chance to eat before arriving. I can't explain the completely relaxed and easy feeling I have when coming here. I don't want to leave when it's over. There is a live worship band at the beginning and end of service that does an excellent job. There is a live designated pastor you can speak with at this site if you desire... He is very nice and there is no pressure to talk to him or others, yet he is friendly and says hi all the time so you know he's there if you need him. And then, the service /sermon is given via live satellite feed on the big screen from the Livermore campus pastor. I feel like I'm part of a large church, but in a smaller more intimate and local venue close to home. The kids service is held in their own age appropriate theater. My kids love it! After service is over, you can take advantage of early bird movie prices too and then enjoy lunch at a nearby restaraunt with the family. You can make a day out if this, and it's a good way to get the kids to go to church! Highly recommend this place and there is no downside that I can see after attending for the last 3 weeks. This place has helped me renew my faith and desire to once again be a part of an intimate church community. read more

This is my go-to church when I'm in the bay area. It's a big church so nobody really will bother you or even get to know you so that's nice as a visitor. They are friendly though. They usually have coffee and donuts and such out front. I think they ask for a donation but I always just eat whatever. I do contribute an offering though. Pastor Madsen isn't always here as he's a busy guy but when he is, his sermons are pretty much always spot on. Guest speakers are also good too. They also have a nice coffee shop and book store. read more

I have been searching for a church home for a couple of years now and a friend of mine introduced me to Cornerstone. I searched on yelp and found good reviews about it. I even listened to one podcast by Pastor Steve yesterday before i decided to give it a try today. i have no regrets in attending the service. I felt that i finally found my church home. Uplifting music, friendly people, great and humorous sermons from Pastor Steve, free breakfast and good parking. The best part is the teachings because you have something to ponder on for the weeks ahead. I can't wait to attend again next week. Another good thing about this church, they have many groups you can consider to deepen your faith and participate in the church and/or community. I am looking forward to become a part on the womens ministry and singles group. I just hope that they have bible study on the weekends. Workweek nights bible study will be a great challenge for me. Coming from a large church (dare I call it a Mega- church) in the Sacramento region, and also serving in video production ministry, Cornerstone Fellowship is a great fit for me. I even briefly served at Passion City Church (Louie Giglio is Senior Pastor, in Atlanta) in video production there. Having said that, the bar is set pretty high for me in terms of worship and production of the services. In the Bay Area, there are many small churches, even the churches I grew up in, but none of them compare to Cornerstone's core values. They are a very generous church serving their communities (CF has five East Bay campuses) and is very Biblically based. That's what I value in a great church, is standing on the Holy Word of God, Living it out, and encouraging others to grow in their walk with Jesus. I enjoy the messages from their pastors, founding and Senior Pastor Steve Madsen is very authentic and vulnerable, Teaching Pastor Becky Fitch is great in explaining the passage of Scripture in a very relevant and meaningful way, as well as Pastor Steve Ingold, who has great insight. read more

Ok, here it is... after almost giving up on my search to find a chuch home, I stumbled across Cornerstone, yes on Yelp, and to my suprise this was exactly what I was looking for and hoping to find. In short: Worship music was incredible! The pastor Steve was very funny, personable and delivered a real message from his heart; it was exactly what I needed to hear; he was encouraging and uplifting and shared his personal struggles which I related to greatly. The people there were friendly and many of them stayed around afterwards to chat and get to know each other (including the Pastor, which was nice for me to get a chance to meet him). I guess "Come as you are" would be my personal opinion of the church. I think you will find a home here. I decided to make it my home on the first visit (which happens to be today). Its right by the Costco off 580, so from Dublin it took me less than 10 minutes to get to. read more

This church is HUGE and can feel overwhelming. they have a great kids program and my kids love it, but I'm not bought in yet. It seems to be a bible study church, rather than message focused, which some people may prefer. The first time I went, they spent over an hour reading about 5 verses and talking about Cuba. The second time, the service was done via TV as the Pastor wasn't even there. Obviously, a lot of people like this place, but I'll keep looking for a better fit. I "church shopped" for ever after college and finally found this place - doing a great job of teaching the Bible and worshipping God. Plain and simple and they do it well! Every week the message is challenging and smart and biblically sound; I found a young adults group, a small group, and ways to volunteer right off the bat. They have alive and growing groups for youth, marriage, college, singles, grief, addiction, etc. They are active is serving the local community on a personal and involved level not just check-writing as well as sending all over the world. Great church! We've gone to a lot of different churches since my Dad is a retired pastor. Since moving to the valley this is the only church we now call home. We enjoy Pastor Steve and it's nice to see that everyone is a down to earth. You can see that people at this church are here to serve God and not trying to out do each other. Pastor Steve is a laid back Pastor that preaches the word of God. He's not trying to be a rock star or live like one. You won't see him rolling up in a $100k car, $5k suit, and $10k rolex on while passing the plate around 4 times just in case you missed it the first time. You will see him rolling in a 2011 Honda accord, sporting khakis and a pair of vans. If you're ever in Livermore make sure you stop by, you'll be glad you did. read more

We have been attending Cornerstone regularly for approximately two years. So far, our time there has been an incredible journey!! The weekend sermons are powerful; the childcare is staffed with loving caretakers; and the individual ministries provide outreach to so many communities both near and far! I have been going to this church for over 10 years now on and off; consistently though for the last two years. The staff and volunteers do so much work behind-the-scenes to make sure that people feel included, loved, and taken care of. They are so genuine. If you are considering it for the first time, I highly recommend you check it out. It is technically a mega church, so you can expect there to be lots of people, ones that will warmly welcome you and get to know you if you'd like and ones that will respect your space if you don't feel like getting to know anyone there just yet. If you're looking to connect deeper in the church, with God, or with other people in your community, they have what they call "Life groups" that you can join. Also, if it is of any value to you, Cornerstone posts their finance history, so there is 100% transparency about who and where they delegate their money to. God Bless! read more

This is probably the best church in the area. I really see Jesus moving in this place. Pastor Steve has a gift with teaching and breaks down everything to make it easy to understand for the lay christian. The worship music and decor is contemporary. The life group's (bible study groups) are great! It's a giant church but fellowship is what really stands out for this place. Everyone is so friendly and easy to talk to here. It's such a non-judgmental place where the leaders always encourage their believers to receive God's grace instead of beating yourself up when failing. They have 20 different ministries and so many classes that will help you to get where God wants to get you with your faith. They have 3 services on Sunday because its so packed!! Cornerstone is the most amazing church. We have been going here for 19 years, and drive over 30 minutes to do so. Pastor Steve is a gift from God and knows exactly how to relate to the people in attendance. If you're not sure, stop by for an Easter or Christmas service or any Sunday, and you will not be disappointed. God's light shines through this church. The band and singers are phenomenal as well. It was my first time visiting Cornerstone in Livermore. I have my home church in San Francisco but really wanted to see how Cornerstone is. First impression: huge community of Christian families. Not that this is important but there was free coffee, donuts, and bagels when entering in the front. As you walk through there are people there to greet you and you can approach the information desk. I spoke to a nice lady there who introduced my boyfriend and I to Bruce. Bruce showed us around and gave us information on where to go for the message. The worship songs are great and there is a huge teleprompter in front so you may follow the words and sing along. The crowd is mixed of all ages and ethnicities which I like. The message was very applicable, historical and can easily be led. I unfortunately forgot the speaker's name but she was great. She was funny, clear, and had great points. There was a little bit more worship at the end with announcements. I am looking forward to coming here again in the near future. read more

Been going to hear Steve and many other's since they were at the Shriners. I liked it better when we were at the Shriners, it was such a small intimate congregation then. However, the word spread and the congregation grew, and grew, and grew. It has lost that intimate feeling, unless you go regularly and are involved, but that is the way it should be. If you go regularly, get involved in groups and missions, I think you will find a wonderful place that oozes the love of Jesus. read more

My wife and I are blessed to call Cornerstone Church our home. While the number of people can be overwhelming for a new person, that can be quickly helped by joining a life group and getting invested in serving others w/ the many available ministries. We see and feel the power of the Lord in the amazing pastoral staff, the facility itself, many answered prayers and of course in the grounded presentation of salvation and scripture. We both also have fully engaged with the current study and call to be "All In." It's hard not to NOT like a church like Cornerstone. I know double negative. I don't care. If you can get passed all the wealth of this place and truly appreciate the message, the people and the staff then you'll see what it truly is.
